I'm absolutely blown away by this. I'll have to see if it will work with the BattleNet version since my disks long ago bit the dust. :<

I have just the base game... My expac one didn't survive my last trip to my new house.
I'll see what I can discover about how to play this. I mean...I can't imagine that very many people still have physical disks. I'll cull the forums.

IF it works with the BattleNet version, maybe you can buy a new copy from Blizz -- legacy games that aren't yet remastered are pretty cheap. LoD by itself is $9.99 in NA.

From their FAQ for multiplayer: https://tsw.median-xl.com/join

Install Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, but NOT in your Program Files directory.

Download our LAUNCHER, install it in your Diablo 2 directory and run it. It will automatically download the latest Median version and set up the game.

From the game menu, click on "Multiplayer", create an account and have fun!

    Follow the RULES.

"It's a huge day for fans of Diablo II as the Median XL mod has finally been released."

But it was released on January 18th.

    Yeah, nitpicking, but still.

@berlight Please don't multipost when a single post would suffice. :)

Also, you realize this is a fan project, not official? It sort of erases the "Diablo Immortal" shots you're taking. LOL!

The single multiple post was on purpose. It has more impact on the cynical dark humor I was trying to provide. You have to admit it was funny. At least, it was, for me. O_O
Then again. I still believe Blizzard will make one of their franchising Battle royale arena survival turbo with lazers.
And I hope that will be diablo so I can laugh until next year

Bought the expac on blizz store, 20 bucks BRL here, really cheap and really worth it to stay on my library so I got the base one too.

I'm installing the mod now, thanks for the instructions.
Can't wait to hear what you think! <3

as a D1 player who skipped D2, I am about to purchase this. Its awesome that D2 allows mods, and that someone that skilled has done this

Blizz should hire this guy to make D4, he obviously has more passion than anyone at Blizz

Hmm, i played the median xl by laz 10 years prior but as a single player only. Now that it is multiplayer it is very nice to say the least. I played the game a ton in 2006 and 2009 mainly.

    Lovely addition to the game.

I downloaded it, but it didn't give me the option on where to put the download... it just downloaded. When I went to run the game I was given an error. Going to try to physically move the file to my Diablo II folder.

Sounds cool. Hopefully I remember this next time I’m looking for an ARPG. Pretty hooked on Grim Dawn still atm. Haven’t even hit level cap or finished the expansion yet. Probably will be another year or two before i get the ARPG itch again after this.

Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction was already in my Program Files Directory for playing Path of Diablo (which is excellent by the way).  I'm not sure I can have it downloaded in two separate places.

MXL is awesome, but I don't like their random oneshot mechanics like Witches and such. Also, it has been "released"? What does that even mean? I've been playing / following it ever since 2008 or thereabouts.
It's officially "1.0.0" and not considered beta any more. "10 years in the making" it even says. ;)

I think if anything can show how good a game is it's when there are people who can do such massive projects over such long periods of time without stopping and on top of that manage to deliver something that's simply amazing... I hope D4 can at least be half as good and maybe allow modding, so that we know there will be content in the future.

Median XL was made by brotherlaz in 2012.. right after median 2008 ... SIGMA was the code name for a new engine and rework on the code .. so they could get past the base diablo 2's limitations of HP ... max areas allowed... corpse dropping on death... so on so forth... median XL was in 1.0 for like 6 years? This is all done from marconecro and a different group once brotherlaz has left... really nothing has changed much .. except the engine part.. and leveling rebalence.

Im not even sure if median ultimative (Name they used to replace XL when laz left) was beta either at the time.. with 14 versions being out.

I just find this article very mis-leading is all.. since alot of us have been playing the same game without the engine changed for 11 years >.<
