Skyrim co-op mod getting close to beta. https://www.reddit.com/r/SkyrimTogether/comments/aeur8e/closed_beta_announcement/

https://www.ibtimes.com/bethesda-blocks-skyrim-together-mods-steam-release-2613657

Bethsesda shut them down in November saying its ok to develop the mod but they couldnt publish it on Steam.

"The news that Bethesda blocked the Steam release of “Skyrim Together” emerged on the Skyrim subredditthis weekend. One thread shared what the developers announced online, saying: “Some news guys, we have been in discussions with Bethesda and while they are fine with us releasing the mod they weren’t with us publishing the mod on Steam and we relied heavily on the Steam APIs for party and lobby systems.”

"Though the announcement was definitely a bummer to excited fans, the makers of the mod assured everyone that the game would still be released. However, the fact that they relied heavily on Steam APIs would mean that the release would be pushed back. “It will push back the dev a bit while we figure out a way to make our own party and lobby systems. It might sound like a trivial task but we expect thousands of concurrent players meaning we need something that scales well and that’s a complicated story.” "

night and day; if ESO were even remotely close to Skyrim's feel, it would have been the next big thing in MMOs...

    Nah, not even close.

I just downloaded Elder Scrolls Online again and though I'm trying to play it differently, it still doesn't hold a candle to the single player games.

Believe me, if Elder Scrolls Online was like the single player games I would never need another MMORPG again.

I think it's more "about" not allowing for competition. Especially using their own work to create that competition.

Let's say, for argument's sake, that a team was able to take Skyrim and flesh it out and actually create an mmorpg. That would work against Zenimax's own mmorpg. Not that they play the same but there are people who would much rather play "mmorpg skyrim" over Elder Scrolls Online.

There very well could be other reasons to not allow certain assets to be used.

They're not monetizing it and if they did, they'd have to cut both Valve and Bethesda in. Also, they're not shutting down the mod. They're only preventing it on Steam. Final step in this eventual process, mods through the Bethesda launcher only and only what they approve.

Plus stifling competition like that for your own product protection never goes well in the end. We've seen that time and again.
it's true they are not monetizing it. It then could very well have something to do with their agreements with Valve.

I should add that I think them not shutting it down but saying that the modders can't access these libraries (or whatever) is sort of a way of putting a wrench into the works. Maybe they think it will slow them down enough until such time it doesn't matter to them.

Also, I don't think stifling competition from their own product is a bad thing. How could it be? Other than pissing off a few people working on the project.

    Honest question there.

Closed beta has started and you can get in for a 1$ donation on patreon.  Open beta to come a a few weeks or so mid feb I think.

Btw Bethesda didn't them want the using the steam api but I can't help but wonder if that's to do with steam themselves.   Apparently they have no problems with this mod.

Ideally you want to use Skyrim SE, donate 1$ to their patreon for closed beta access and need to make an account on ST's own site. You can find out the step on their reddit page.

Right now there's one server in EU somewhere so might not be that great for NA players but keep in mind this is a good ole fashion beta, not this early start BS we see nowadays so there will be bugs, some stuff is turned off and they are collecting data including location data for localizing their NA servers etc.

I expect bethasda will sell a few more Skyrim SE due to these guys.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

So how would this work with quests and story? Are those still handled per player? Or is it something that would be auto accepted by everyone in the session. What about saved games?

I'm super interested in this project, I didn't even know about it.

    It's per person.

I have no idea how saved games work.

edit: I'm guessing from a comment I saw in an old FAQ that you can load up a save game and then "connect." Once you are ready to save again you disconnect and THEN save.

The comment itself basically stated that you should load a save game while connected so that is why I came to this conclusion.

Pretty simple so far, you start the game using "Harbor" which is essentially a launcher and it starts Skyrim right to the main page where you can continue, load saved games etc.

Once loaded in game you can hit the right ctrl button to open the harbor ui which shows you friends that are online and you can invite them to join once everyone has accepted your invite, you the host, have to click launch party and everyone should sync up.

Didn't have much time to fiddle around today as my boy was getting home from school and this is a surprise for his Bday coming up next week.

Used this to get stuff working.

So, I love Skyrim, but I'm also enjoying ESO. I'd really like to hear from at least one of you folks claiming this is better than ESO. I believe the comment was, ESO and Skyrim are like night and day. I really don't see the difference. What will Skyrim together offer that ESO doesn't already have? Not to mention, they don't even have a working quest / loot sharing system. So expect another few years before that part is working.
I've heard other people say that they don't see the difference.

For me, Elder Scrolls Online is almost unplayable yet I have over 2k hours into Skyrim.

My thought is that it depends on how you interface with the game (to use a silly word)

If you are a quester and are looking for the quests then I can see some merit in that. If you are more about being in the world, exploring, seeing different and unique places (within the context of the game's "pieces" that are used to create the dungeons, caves, etc) , having different adventures/events happen to you then for me Skyrim is leagues above Elder Scrolls Online.

I find the world of skyrim to feel more vast and interesting.

Being in Elder Scrolls Online, for me, is very tiring.

you are joking right? only thing you could maybe mention is the same is graphics, other then that the very gameplay and skills you can learn and use are diferent, plus eso is limiting on a lot of skills.

but if you really need to ask, what skyrim have then eso don't? I guess that is the point skyrim don't have loot boxes, monthly payment, and annoying
FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

So which one of them havent you played, because its not possible that you played them both then commented that "I really dont see the difference"  The only thing that is the same is some of the assets that were borrowed from Skyrim and plopped into the ESO zones.

I just went back here to advise everyone to watch carefuly this mod team because they are kinda being sued by SKSE for stealing code/using code without permission after SKSE team asked them to remove the code and they said f*** it. SKSE team stated on their User Agreement that this specific team, and only them, were prohibited of using any piece of SKSE code, everybody else was ok.

The team leader had several posts made by ex members (Bashing him) on reddit...

So yeah... kinda shisthow drama going on at the moment.

Besides they are receiving donations on their Patreon while using stolen code... And that's proof that paid mods does not work.
No all wrong they are not being sued.

They had some code that they will be completely removing and have been in talks with the skse team and they have worked things out, they have also been in contact with bethesda and everything right now is okay and they are working to fix the bugs they found during CB as well as cleaning up the  code which started the drama.  You really need to be careful with reddit drama as it hard to know who is full of shit and who isn't in cases like this.
    Open beta should be soonish.

Here the march report they put out after talking with the skse team and all this drama started:

As for the questing/loot sharing that was turned off for the CB as they wanted to find bugs and make stuff stable before turning this on and bug fixing this, so no not years away and yes they have code done just for this.
