Daybreak has sent out a new developer video diary for PlanetSide Arena, the upcoming battle royale game based on the PlanetSide IP. In this episode, Senior Artist Chris Bisho and Senior Game Designer Troy Schram take a look at a variety of weapons players have the opportunity to find and use during each match. In addition, the pair discuss the roles vehicles play in the game.

Update your resumes and keep riding those vehicles to the next job. Leave the weapons behind though, most workplaces have polices against those at a workplace.

That is my advice for anyone still at Daybreak
Good advice, though you never know, a miracle could occur and the horse might actually learn to sing :p

With the amount of weapon variation that is in Planetside 2 am I wrong to assume that they're spinning the bottle 3-5 times to see which weapons from each category makes it into Planetside Casino Royale?

Always feel compelled to log in and comment on anything DAoC or Planetside; as these are the only games to ever do 3-way war properly and hold a special place in my heart. Happy to hear they are trying to bring this IP back, however I'm a bit skeptical of the way they chose to do so with BR.

I feel the main attraction to these games was the persistent world and each factions uniqueness. I've played all the big BR games and can honestly say that none of them hold my attention very long. Victories are short-lived and defeats are often troll af and completely remove you from the battle. I don't believe the world of Planetside belongs in a BR setting.

Planetside 2 failed because it wasn't Planetside 1 with better graphics. That's literally all people wanted. Not a god-awful cash shop stocked full of useless weapon variants. The Lasher, MG, and JH were all changed for the worse. Planetside 1 had weight and depth, was extremely tactical, valued quality over quantity and I miss that game more and more everyday.

Are PS1 servers back yet? Would %100 resub

I just don't feel like there is an audience for the Planetside 1 type of game anymore. That's why they tried to evolve the game and failed. There might be! To be honest I really hope there is. But I think they are flopping around trying to find a niche to pull it back into the light before trying anything that might not be profitable.

True, the audience does favor BR right now. However, I'm a firm believer that people don't know what they want, they just want something popular to stream. I also believe PS2 launched at an unfortunate time with the newly founded cash shop trend. If there was a solid remake of PS1 I think it could have a lot of potential. I mean it had the 200 player battles, had a real sense of risk/reward, all in a persistent world. I wish them luck in whatever they do.

Is daybreak a studio people try to go to when they get rejected from aaa studios? Is it like the ASU of game studios?

IMO call it Planetside 2050 - few asset flips some minor changes - and you have a new game, nobody will notice.
but also add fantasy and other elements that are out of place for the setting and then tell people not to play it.
