In October 2018, Blizzard Entertainment's long-time president Mike Morhaime announced that he was vacating his position but continue to provide "strategic advice to the company". In a new filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Delaware, Activision-Blizzard has announced that Morhaime is severing his ties completely. His last listed day of service at ATVI is April 7, 2019, a scant 5 months after being named a strategic advisor.

This makes me really sad, though I hope he's leaving to enjoy retirement or to "pursue other projects" rather than exiting due to dismay over the direction Blizz is moving in. Despite Blizzard's huge success, Morhaime always struck me as a good guy who really loved making games.

Pity, he was a nice guy, and probably one of the few inside Blizz that made Classic relaunch a posibility.

Mike Morhaime and Chris Metzen were the soul of Blizzard imo. With both of them gone, I'm nervous to see the direction the company goes. Feels like the end of an era, and I hate it.

Mike's keynote and Chris' rallying of the Horde and Alliance were the main reasons I watched Blizzcon in the past. Not sure I'll watch this year.

Blizzards problems are internal, its like there is a cancer eating away at it inside, i don't blame him for leaving at all as by now its spread throughout the company so much that 'excising' the 'cancer' may no longer be possible.

If this is true then its just a sign of how bad things are at Blizzard, youtube vid from heelsvsbabyface.

A bunch of over paid nobodies all leaving because the LUCK ran out and can't cash in on sub par gaming anymore. If this Morhaime guy had ANYTHING to do with the lack of effort i have seen from Blizzard over  the years, selling cheap low budget games,i say good riddance to sucky games.

IMO it was pure luck ,so on that note no matter what happens moving forward will never see the big $$ ever again.
However to we the gamer,i got the feeling we might just start to see better games, more depth, more gameplay than simply selling Warcraft heroes and Esports.

2 Things,i don't play games for the Esports or the streaming ,so i am not looking for the popularity vote to get viewers,i am looking for the best games to play.I also couldn't care less about ANY Warcraft heroes in my games, again i want good quality game design not just heroes.

Know why so many speaking out NOW and not the last 5 years, they were ALL cashing in on the games, all about money and NEVER about the games. So notable players are leaving their games, this means less viewers, less sponsors, less money and now these players see it and want change, they want MORE out of Blizzard.

These streamers and pro Esport players are terrified their easy life cash cow might disappear so are blaming Blizzard. This is a huge snowballing effect, the exact same reason Blizzard became popular was it just snowballed out of nowhere from nothing.

Company is not doing well. That's what's up.
A company that made billions from its last couple of releases is not doing well.  It's hard to imagine.

But then again, they got woke and they're going broke.  Just like EA with Battlefield V, selling less copies than Battlefield Hardline after the guy in charge said "If you don't like us getting woke, then don't buy it!  We don't want you as a customer anyways."

Well, according to their share prices and box sales, the shareholders did want them as customers anyways.

2019 will be the year of developers and studios falling on their holier than thou woke swords and dying.

You do realize that as a founder to a multibillion dollar company he doesn't lack money. If you think that's why he is leaving I don't know what to say.

I wonder what they'll do to dodge the claims of rampant racism taking place under Blizzard roof-tops.

How about claiming a sexual orientation for one of your game characters, then creating a marketing outrage against their imaginary homophobic playerbase?

After all, that same trick worked wonders for EA and Battlefield V.

It is a real job. It just has an expiration date. Lots of jobs do. Modeling is another one I can think of.

I'm not into esports, but grow the fuck up. If you're doing something and getting paid to do that thing, you have a real job. There is no such thing as a fake job. They weren't being paid in Monopoly money.

There is never enough for listed parent companies, even if they earned billions. What Activision wants is increasing profits every year, maybe 50%? So yeah, it is never enough.

They sold the company to Activision, made their money, at the cost of everything. Why stay?

So begging is a real job? Beggars beg, and they get paid. Self-employment!

@SupaMutant In order to avoid double posting, quote the person's post you want, respond to it and before hitting "enter", quote the next post you want to respond to, do so and then hit "post comment". Double+ posting is frowned up 'round these parts. Just a bit of friendly advice. :)

If you want to be pedantic and classify begging as "doing something." Most reasonable people wouldn't classify unemployment as being self-employed.

They probably aren't interested in his advice so he is going to bail and I don't blame him.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
