Blizzard? Are you there?

Seriously.... what are blizzard doing? This is obviously just personal opinion here, but the quality has dropped soooo much in the past few years.

I know there are obviously tons of people who still like their games, but I would argue that the general quality lowers as every year passes. (apart from their cinematics!)

We are talking about a huge company here... Blizzard really need to announce something big. The last big game to come from one of the main IP's was actually Diablo 3, which was released in May 2012! Soon to be 7 years ago... and it had some major flaws too such as the auction house which was scrapped. Remasters are great but where is diablo 4? where is warcraft 4? where is starcraft 3? where is wow 2?

Or

where is any game that follows on from these in some way or have something substantial to them, like a new mmo perhaps, or an action game?

They all get scrapped it seems.

We got Overwatch (ok sure, some people love it but imo it has HUGE flaws and nothing to do with their old IP's), Hearthstone (I think this is fair enough, its an ok game but a card game, not a proper continuation of an existing IP, something substantial like a starcraft action game or a new starcraft rts) and HOTS (jumping on the moba train with characters from all IP's, very stereotypical).

I don't believe that these current games and IP's cannot be innovated on, they need some creative game designers to bring in new perspectives, and I meant that perhaps quite literally, a new game perspective on existing IP's and I'm not talking about card games or mobile games.
Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with The Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...

I think games like people go through stages of life.  Young energetic and full of enthusiasm for the future.  Middle age, been around the block a few times and just enjoying life.  End game, missing the old days, dwelling on past victories, and out of touch with current affairs.  I think Blizzard has reached it's end-game.

You may very well be right.

As someone who has been there since almost the beginning and played every title, I truly hope it isn't the case.

The issue here is that you are looking at Blizzard from a gamer enthusiast perspective and not billion dollar video game business with 5000+ employees perspective.

Blizzard can make an innovative game for mmorpg fans out of old IP but this would not make them top dollar.

This is why they are expanding their portfolio into mobile as that's the biggest potential profitable move for them at this time.

HoTS made them a ton of money as card game, so did Overwatch - because both games expanded their portfolio in new areas that Blizzard didnt have - and this  increased their costumer reach.

So to understand a money driven billion dollar company- dont think like a gamer - as that's not how they make decisions - it's not about making innovative games for current customers, its about reaching new players and making a profit off them in addition to all your current customers - that's how you grow as a business

How are they even going to reinvent the ARPG or RTS genre.

If they making a new RTS or ARPG it probably almost the same as the older game.  Or even worse.

I heard people saying starcraft 1 is more popular than starcraft 2 right now. Shrug.
