Someone spent 3000 dollars on Fallout 76 on just cosmetics

No wonder bethesda and other companies don't care if they lose people, cause the whales make up for it by far.

So they are actually providing the product people paid for instead of a cheap piece of crap, too bad they didn't do that with the actual game.

I still don't understand why they didn't just ship the shit in standard packaging and and tell gamers that they had issues with their supplier, and would be sending the bags out as soon as they could get it resolved and would update them as soon as they have new information...

I don't think they would have shipped the canvas bags at all if the customers didn't raise such a fuss. They probably hoped no one would mind and focus on the helmet. If the game was good, there would have been fewer complaints.

The reason for the canvas bag switch was based off a probable bigwig lie & was just a quick cash grab. So now this half-hearted, because of law suits, effort in doing what should've been done in the first place as a mea culpa doesn't do the company any good nor should it. It should've been done proper in the first place by Bethesda. What I found hilarious, & perhaps salt in the wound, was Bethesda's offering of 500 Atoms which wasn't even enough to purchase an in-game canvas bag lol.

This is what they should've done to begin with. If players don't push back they probably think they can get away with it. Remember people, you hold the power over game companies, and not the other way around.

Why do people have to sign up for this?  Its not like they don't know who to send the bags to.

I'm pretty sure bait-and-switch is against the law... some sort of fraud, I would guess. As in, Bethesda was looking at maybe getting into real legal trouble. So, this is definitely damage control on their part, not so much with fans as the lawyers of fans that were about to start tap, tap, tapping, a rapping at their door. I'm guessing their Legal Department said, "Give them the damn bags!"

Overall, I don't think this undoes what has happened, it only protects them (probably) from legal action. The tone and messages sent by them have really soured me on having anything to do with them in the future. I won't say it's impossible, but they'll have to work, and work hard, to overcome my current impression of them.

Too bad that this kerfuffle provided more content than Fallout 76 actually delivered.

They have no appetite for a lawsuit and the negative publicity that accompanies it. They're dotting their I's and crossing their T's.

This is dumb, they never had a choice. They always were going to be supplying the bags. They have to.

A streamer showed photos of other streamers who got some really nice bags after they flew them down and set them up in hotels to cover the event.
Fallout 76s Canvas Bag Controversy Takes a Turn for the Worse
When asked about the bags one official reply was the company who made the bags ran out of materials to make more so they had to settle on nylon. Another official post said the canvas bags were too expensive so they went with nylon.

It is. And it's sad that it takes a huge media outrage for a company to reconsider "Hmm... maybe we shouldn't scam these poor bastards after all, and actually GIVE them what we promised."

I wasn't even one of the people that bought the CE, and it still damaged their image to me.

Not to mention... they know that half the people who bought that aren't going to bother with jumping through the hoops of making a ticket and then mailing the damned thing somewhere to get it exchanged.

That's why I wondered why they even sent the nylon in the first place.  They seriously seemed to think players would not notice?

And more baffling to know they weren't prepared with a "Yea, we're having issues, but we're gonna send you guys the canvas version when it gets resolved!" statement as soon as it became apparent the issue was noticed.  Like seriously, a percentage of consumers would take that and go "See?  We're ending up with an extra bag!  TWO bags!  Bethesda DOES care!"

So they probably should have just said heck with it, customers won't appreciate our efforts to resolve this issue, might as well just spend the money on a great holiday party instead.

    ;)

Exactly, no point in rectifying the situation.

Customers: Hey Bethesda, you advertised canvas bags with your $200 CE, but you sent us crappy nylon ones! What gives?

Bethesda: Oh yeah, that was just a prototype used for advertising purposes. Turns out lots of people have taken up oil painting as of late, increasing the price of canvas to the point that we'd make about $3 less per CE sold. That's unacceptable, so we decided to go with cheap... I mean, less expensive nylon instead.

Customers: That's ridiculous! You told us they would be canvas! And why did all the gaming press folks get nice canvas bags?

Bethesda: We made those before the shortage. We gotta keep our Metacritic numbers up, after all. Stop whining. You got the helmet, right? It's like the best CE EVER!

    Customers: That's false advertising!

Bethesda: FINE. Here's 500 atoms. Now go away.

Customers: Bullshit! I can't even buy a canvas bag in the GAME for that much! I'm telling!

Bethesda: Oh, who could you possibly t-

*At this point the FTC lumbers up, cracking its knuckles*

    FTC: There a problem here?

    *Bethesda pisses itself*

Bethesda: No, no problem! We were just explaining to our wonderful customers, whom we have the utmost respect for, that the nylon bags were just placeholders until we could get production on the canvas ones sorted! That's all, no need to do anything rash or litigious now, just a big old misunderstanding!

    Yes, that's the perfect metaphor.
Publishers trying to pull a fast one with unfinished and buggy games hoping the players won't notice or just suck it up.
Then Bethesda sending out the Canvas bags is like a new game getting a mega patch right after launch.
Yes that's the state of the gaming industry in a nutshell.

It would of been better if they didn't deliver the bags ... they should of made a video instead with them giving the same responses they did , deal with it! shu now! .. this only made it worse.

Have all of you patting each other's backs for bashing the game, and bashing it yourselves even tried the game, or just jumping on the "Hey, people are saying this game isn't perfect, let's shit on it with them!" Bandwagon? The game has bugs, some of which, I've lost items to, but it is still what it was meant to be. Mutiplayer Fallout. Hey, armchair developers always know best though, right?

If you mean was meant to be a souless, shallow MP survival game that was released with bugs going as far back as the game engine itself, wrapped in a FO skin?  If yes, then I would say, it is what it was mean to be.

LOL yep they have enough legal problems as it is they don't want to get into trouble over false advertisement.

Though people could still complain that they want to store that canvas bag inside the original box and it doesn't fit or something.

Idk man, I bought it and it was crap- Its nothing like mulitplayer fallout its a poorly designed asset flip that appears to have just been a cash grab capitalizing on Fallout fans.

'Armchair developer' is getting as overplayed as 'entitled'- I dont have to be a movie director to know if a movie is shit- i dont have to be a structural engineer to see if a  foundation isnt level or cracking.
