I've seen firsthand what Lua can do; it's apparently a great language.
Voxels are somewhat passé, and I've read some interesting things about the server architecture.
I also game on a Mac, because I just roll that way.

1. How well does this CSSC tech work with thousands of players in the same area? I have a nice computer, but I can't imagine something like this working well for the average joe.
2. I don't know anything about LUA scripting. I'm worried something like this provide advantages to someone who does know this. If they're able to create something via these scripts and sell it or use it against other players to their favor.
3. Besides creating/building, what else is there to do? I understand this is a sandbox, and I love that about it.. but are there things to hunt? NPCs? Everything I have seen indicates these large worlds are pretty empty.
I know it's still pretty early in development, but I haven't really seen these questions answered.
Anyone have insight? Looks interesting.....
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

I'd like to try this, but would rather spend myoney on completed X4 if it delivers.
So I've played a lot of Elite Dangerous mainly just doing exploration , enjoyed no mans sky but never played an X series game.
Being a space sim fan do you think jumping into X4 as a new X series player is fine? Do the previous "stories" and lore all tie into each other?
But totally the same as life 11 years 1 month from now.
The games truly give you the freedom to dive into the lore as much or as little as you like. And since it's such a fully fleshed out universe, coming into it late is more like watching the first Star Wars movie released without having ever seen or experienced any info regarding those races and nations; intriguing more than anything else because it screams "there's a real reason for each of these faction/characters acting as they do."

Gut Out!
What, me worry?
They've been testing their single-shard technology for ability to handle very high numbers in close proximity since the early days. That's one of the basics they wanted to nail down before getting into other stuff. Yeah, there may definitely be an advantage to having serious brainpower in this game (finally! now that I'm getting senile while waiting for it...) and it definitely will not be the game for those who are looking for the same old KILL CRITTERS and GET COOKIE-CUTTER MISSIONS FROM NPCS and LOTSA LOOT and LEVELING UP to WIN THE END GAME that all the other MMORPGS have, so too bad if that's what you're looking for.
I saw X4 listed on Steam and started to get excited, but then (as I recall) I saw it was going to be single-player or "play with friends" limited multiplayer. Sort of like No Man's Sky but it doesn't look like it will have the world ecosystems. More space stuff and lots of NPC stuff.
I think the key may be the fact that they're not just giving out powerful fighter ships. Those who want to be truly powerful PvP forces will need to build little corporate empires that include (and protect) the creative/building types to make those powerful ships for them. At least, that's what I presume is the theory they are working with. If you like to play the lone wolf, you might be out of luck. The non-respawning resources shouldn't be a problem if the universe is as large as it sounds, power is unlimited (sci-fi tech?) and the other resources can be recycled. At some point players may re-discover long-abandoned ships or whole cities and mine or rebuild them. I'm hoping there will be good rationales behind the locations of various resources, open-ended crafting based on resource properties, and interesting and useful ecosystems with farming ... eventually anyway. Can't go around killing other players on an empty stomach, so you gotta protect those farmers and the scientist/engineers designing and building the defense systems. Just want to go on missions? Sign up with one of those Big Boys and see what they want you to do.
