Bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit. The Witcher 3 was a landmark title in every regard.
The story was top quality and endlessly replayable with meaningful choices and multiple endings. You know, the thing that defines a quality RPG.
The game was full to bursting with memorable characters.
The game had a massive world brimming with actual content. Not copy paste Ubisoft quests. Actual quests.
The game had multiple, distinct build lines for replayability.
The art and soundtrack were top notch.
Even the weakest part of the game by popular opinion, the combat, was still solid by RPG standards (and certainly better than the joke that passes for combat in the Elder Scrolls).
All the witcher 3 and Red dead 2 fans are movie freaks who started gaming? they really dont care about gameplay at all only story graphics character and voice it is what they care? when their game fails hardly on gameplay and combat system
do our gaming get ruined by these fans? who just say the game is best ever made cause it has story
So what? Video games should have stayed at the pong or space invader levels?

If anything, those ruining gaming are those willing to give companies a free pass on unfinished and/or broken titles.
The people who gave Bethesda a free pass through years of buggy, never-to-be officially fixed releases and re-releases.
The drooling neanderthals who think that Fallout 76 or Sea of Thieves are good games because they're "fun with friends."
The people who excuse a publisher for releasing craptastic, broken PC ports if the game itself is good. Dark Souls on PC isn't acceptable. None of the ports Capcom makes are acceptable, especially not Monster Hunter World.
The people who purchased Battlefield 5 despite all of its modes releasing incomplete.
The people who bought Call of Duty Black Ops 4 despite them entirely scrapping single player.
Anyone in general who supports this "buy it now, we'll fix it later (or, more likely, we won't) mentality." Those are the people ruining gaming, not those who want a great story in their video game.
The gameplay needs to be just "good enough", however the story and characters have to be "top notch" for the game to be top notch for me.
If they're both awesome that's awesome that's instant classic of a game then, but story and characters always > gameplay.
Now, multiplayer shooters, mobas, and similar multiplayer games of course don't fall into this category, but i do want my open-world sandboxy games to be rpg-like and have more than just great gameplay.
(I want them to have at least some non-gameplay pillars of greatness, be it incredible main story/side quests, awesome memorable characters, or incredible environment and vistas, background music, you know things that when they come together make an epic adventure and feel epic, otherwise i get bored playing them real fast.
I have been gaming for over 35 years and I prefer a game with a decent story and lore. It's just what people prefer. If it's not your thing that is fine. Can't comment on RDR2 but Witcher 3 is a great game. You don't like the combat style again that is your opinion, many others do.
Game play without story is just shallow shit that appeals to shallow casuals... the end.

Load of wank. JRPG's are notorious for being story-centric games with lacking gameplay, and are considered hardcore, niche games because of that. Stick to Fortnite or whatever it is that you're playing.
@parrotpholk your english isnt good either and so iam hating on Witcher 3 makes me fortnite fanboy ? then you must be retarded like parafin and persona5? never said persona 5 is bad we are talking about witcher 3 here and rdr2 use your brain
@Sovrath because it older game it will be better if they made it in now it will be 1000x better than how it used to be
I feel like I need to run the OP through translation software.
Anyway I am sure Fortnite is very exciting for you but some of the deepest games out there have great stories. Persona 5 comes to mind along with Red Dead 2 as another. Story has nothing to do with what I think you are going on about but your communication skills are so poor that it is hard to tell.
If english is your second language and god I hope it is, maybe post in whatever language is your first and we can run it through google translate to make it more understandable.
Persona 5 is perhaps not the best example, because its gameplay is an absolute perfection of the traditional turn based JRPG. It is both one of the best story JRPGs and the best playing JRPG, and should be near the top of any reasonable list of the best games ever made.
I have a feeling you think that if something is big it must be bad. RDR 2 and Witcher 3 have great gameplay, and great stories. Usually a game held in high regard like either of those two, would be a good thing. I want more fantasy RPG's to do well. I want more slow paced story driven games to do well.
Just because something doesn't fit into what you enjoy, doesn't mean it's ruining gaming. Just play the games you enjoy. There will always be more games made.

Well, if they ever did I'd play it. Like i said, I enjoyed it. But games like Morrowind or Skyrim I really loved because there was an entire world to discover.

@Panther2103 agree with you but for people who enjoy skyrim there is no game that is been made for years and many of them keep waiting for elder scroll 6 and nothing there between 2012 to till now

Your opinion on the matter is now terminally invalid. Skyrim, a game with shit pseudo-fps combat that manages to make MAGIC as simple and boring as archery, can be completely broken with stealth archery, lacks any buildcrafting nuance in its skill trees, and lacks any mechanical nuance in its melee combat does not have better gameplay than the Witcher 3. In fact, it has far, far worse gameplay.
@parrotpholk "your communication is very poor. This is the bad part about smart phones and all the new tech as basic communication skills have went out the window with the pre teen generation." ......................... you forgot to mention it also went out to retards like you too lol

You gotta remember. Other than Elder Scrolls games, there hasn't been many open world fantasy RPG's that actually work (at least after 2000). You got a few games trying like 2 Worlds, Gothic, Kingdom Come, and a couple others but they always have some massive issue / issues that deter from gameplay. Now a days, a game like that requires so many resources / funding that nobody is willing to put in the time to make something like that for a hope that it will return the cost. So I'll take whatever I can get, The Witcher falls into that category for me.
I've been playing a lot of random dungeon crawlers, and those have provided me some fun. Like Might and Magic X (even though the reviews were bad it's still quite good) and Legend of Grimrock 1 & 2.

I thought it had better game play than Witcher 3. But then again, it's exactly what I'm looking for in a fantasy game.
I don't really care about "nuance" though better AI would help. I like it because it's straightforward.
You swing a sword and hit. Not to say there wasn't room for improvement or that the trees could have been better but I think too many games get too "foofy" with all the bits and bobs.
Too flashy, and over the top combat can be fun but it's also immersion breaking for a more "realistic" game.
But this just comes back to taste which is what the Original Post is. Just taste. No one is ruining anything, people are playing what they like.

yes and also skyrim let you freely mod we can almost create anything we can even create witcher 3 in skyrim if modders are good and everything can be made better with mod plus vanilla game itself is good with many things to do than just mainstory
IMO the worst part of RDR2 is the story (the story is actually great btw). What i mean by that is the most memorable moments you will have in game is when you go off the beaten path and decide to hunt or explore. The story is great and its fun but it can't compare to the great unknown of what you might encounter just playing around in the sandbox.

Except that no, you can't create the Witcher 3 in Skyrim. Even in a complete fantasy land in which a modder had the time and talent to complete such a monumental undertaking, you wouldn't get the Witcher 3. You'd get a buggy, lesser version of the Witcher 3 crudely plastered onto a buggy, lesser game. And that's before the possibility of copyright issues and potential conflicts with the hundreds or thousands of other mods you'll be running to pretend that Skyrim is a better game than it actually is.

Again, this is all personal preference. If Elder Scrolls games were the only games made I'd be beyond happy.
But as I said, I play these games for years.
And while I think the Witcher 3 is a great game, it's not a great game for me. If it was I've had played it through several times by now.
As it is, I can only play it so much before I get tired of it. Though I do think that for me it's the combat and how Geralt moves. I always feel like I'm fighting to make him go anywhere.
