Build advice and whats is the best motherboard for 2600x?

gothagotha Member UncommonPosts: 1,074

So my 2500k finally crashed so looking to build a new PC out of the old parts. I am buying these parts in Japan so prices differ a little.

Tower (from old build)https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196

Power Consair cx500m (from old build)

Video Card GTX 970 (from old build)

Motherboard : ASROCK AMD B450 hdv

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07FVKWLQK/?coliid=I1M8VHPIH1ZSW0&colid=CGVI8M35HDFI&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I was looking at the 470 boards but I do not plan on running multiple GPUs so figured save the money.

Ram: G.skill】DDR4-3200 (PC4-25600) Sniper Xhttps://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07GBP22D5/?coliid=I23OKSU76NCW5L&colid=CGVI8M35HDFI&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

CPU: 2600x (the 8400 is 80-100 dollars more. Might be better but price difference doesn't seem worth it)

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07B428V2L/?coliid=I2X84SRUIX1MTR&colid=CGVI8M35HDFI&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I
t is with the motherboard I am wondering the most.  I got such great usage out of my 2500k I was kind of hoping I could get something similar with the 2600x.  I do not plan to do any immediate overclocking but maybe this might change a few years down the line.  If so though it would only be moderate overclocking at best.

Right now the choice seems to be ASROCK AMD B450 hdv   for super budget oe MSI b450 tomohawk or MSI 470 gaming plus.

It's a bit hard to offer advice since it always depends on prices and I've got no idea about Japan's prices, but I'd say that all B450 motherboards are ok, and if you want to OC you should instead invest a bit in some better cooler. You don't need anything too expensive, but something like Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO is a lot better investment in overclocking that a better motherboard would be.

If the price difference between 2600x and Intel 8400 is 80-100 dollars then definitely go for 2600x it's much better price/performance.

Your build doesn't have a hard disk.

Does the 2600X come with the Wraith cooler?

Thats better than a CM 212 in the first place.

also edit,  after looking at somethings I am thinking 2600 is a better options and put the savings into a better motherboard,  probably a cooler a little down the line too.

Hard drives I have from old build which I will switch over.  Sorry forgot to put them.

I think what you have planned in addition to what @Vrika suggested, you're going in the right direction.

Have you tested your power supply for load balance and spikes? Do you know the cause of the 2500 going out? I would make sure before putting a new mobo in.

I wouldn't count on reusing a seven year old power supply that was very much on the budget end of things when you bought it new.  I would also plan on replacing whatever you're using for storage, unless you bought it as an upgrade recently.

Do you know what in your old computer died, or only that the old computer died?  It's unlikely that the CPU itself is what died.

PSU is about two or three years old.  I think the CPU is ok and the issue is probly something related to the motherboard and sleep/ fast start.  Its something I have been having on and off issues with for a while.  I have been trying different things replacing parts and disconnecting each part one by one trying to figure it out for a year now.   Nothing worked except waiting a few days with it unplugged and it would magically work again.  Now that is not even that is working and figure its time to move on.

I probably hope to get a new SSD or something soon,  budget is a little tight and figure its best to spread things out.

MSI B450 Tomahawk and MSI B450M Mortar are the best price/performance/quality motherboards atm. just pick one depending on your case size and needs/preference.

You could also get the MSI B450M Bazooka Plus if u wanted something a bit cheaper.

    https://www.amazon.co.jp/MSI-B450M-BAZOOKA-PLUS-B450%E3%83%81%E3%83%83%E3%83%97%E3%82%BB%E3%83%83%E3%83%88%E6%90%AD%E8%BC%89/dp/B07FT4BWZ3/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540223665&sr=8-1&keywords=msi+b450+bazooka

Ok there's one more motherboard that's acceptable if u need to save more money, i didnt notice it before:

    https://www.amazon.co.jp/MSI-B450M-GAMING-PLUS-B450%E3%83%81%E3%83%83%E3%83%97%E3%82%BB%E3%83%83%E3%83%88%E6%90%AD%E8%BC%89/dp/B07FT95NCS/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1540288356&sr=1-1&keywords=MSI+B450M+Gaming+Plus

I wouldn't go any cheaper than this, and would definitely go for one of the above first.

@gotha is your pc dead in the water? Is there time to save for something better or no?

Either one is good, i'd maybe lean towards the focus gold, 550w is enough for anything except 1080 Ti and 2700x/8700k (overclocked).

K got a seasonic and the rest above,  branding was a little weird in Japan but once i figured it out I found some good deals.  Also after removing my motherboard from the case found burned part on the back around the ram slots.  Guessing that was issue.

    Thanks everyone for the help
