What is there to do besides raid?

I'm a casual now and I don't want to raid or pug mythics. So what is there to do? How is pvp now? Are there established social/casual guilds for adults?

I found a great guild in GW2 and a couple of them in ESO. I have a hard time finding a guild in WoW since I quit the raiding guild I was in during WotLK for some reason.

What do casual players do in WoW?

Its called transmog. If you liked guildwars 2 im assuming you like to play dress up with your toon. Wow has a wardrobe feature where every piece of loot you collect gets added to your wardrobe. Iv never been into WOW pvp but there seems to be alot of options to explore . Not sure why you would be interested in joining a guild if you dont want to raid , Just for the social interaction im guessing ? If thats the case id just look for any large guild recruiting.

What do casual players do in WoW?

Casual pvp involves banging your head against a brick wall in between random battleground queues where you will be faced with premades vs pugs, 6 second chain stuns, slows, roots, pulls, etc. And to top it off idiots on your team who either have no clue how to play the bg or just refuse to play the bg objectives and just shoot for topping the dps scoreboard. And if that were not enough for you some toxic ass will almost certainly tell you that you're bad in chat during the match.

I'm probably about as casual as they come and with my max toons, I try to max a profession, go back to do either raids or dungeon solo that I didn't do while leveling, work on achievements or roll another toon.

The last time I played wow, I rolled on a new server so I didn't have access to coin or crafted gear from one of my max toons and didn't use any heirlooms. I actually enjoyed it. Leveled just by doing quests and no dungeons. Took awhile, but enjoyed the journey.

I don't raid at all anymore except if I feel like doing the raid finder myself. There are thousands of achievements you can go complete. You can go back and solo old raids if you never saw them. You can work on reputations with different factions. I one toon that is exhaulted with every faction that is possible for them myself. Completed every quest in the game on the same toon. Overall it just depends on what you are really looking to do. Hell you can just play the AH game if that floats your boat.

PvP is ok but as with anything unless you are going in with a team just don't expect anything special. Pug PvP can be great or horrible all depends on are the guys you get matched with actually trying to win or are they watching tv and glancing at the screen occasionally. Most pugs only care about kills and not objectives it seems so again it is all in who you are friends with and if you play with them or try and go it solo in PvP.

I thought level scaling was only for the outside world, not for instances. Otherwise what would be the point of timewalking be?

As for things to do, if you're at all into pokemon you can be the very best that no one ever was and collect all the battle pets, the battling portion is pretty legit too. Or if you're just a collector be a mount collector or achievement hunter. Into fashion? Get all the transmog, my personal favorites are some of the off-color raid sets from old times. Like the Blue Bloodfang set from BC dungeons.

If you're into pvp then do some arena. I wouldn't recommend solo queuing for BGs as you'll feel like you're surrounded by idiots no matter which faction you queue up with.

Never did the weekly events WoW always has going on? Go do them! The beer festival is pretty fun with quite a lot to do. Darkmoon Faire's minigames are pretty fun too. That race with the traps/powerups that's slightly reminiscent to mario kart can be challenging.

The inherent problem with Themepark gear-centric games like WOW is you eventually, have done everything. As a casual, your options are even more limited. Basically, it boils down to:

Achievement Hunting
Crafting (WoW crafting sucks)
Leveling other characters
PVP (WoW PVP is meh)
Clearing out quests (See Achievement Hunting)

Also, Casual does not necessary make you a non-raider. You can be casual and raid. Albeit, the chances of finding a raiding guild like that are slim, it is still doable. Casual just means you play every once in a while or a few hours a day. Considering the annoyance of some of the achievements (including the super annoying mount and cosmetic pet gathering), you could end up being way more than "just a few hours a day".

You give Sandbox far too much credit! They're normally far more limited than themepark games, despite the "here is your sand and tools. have fun" concept.

Devs give the player the proverbial sand and a bucket, but usually forget the shovel.

You likely won't get a straight answer on that. WoW's PvP is completely serviceable, but it's not winning any awards for it.

ESO has Cyrodiil for those keep siege fights, but from what I understand that portion of the game has been relatively neglected by Zeni.

I don't play much MMORPG PvP these days, but I jump into the BGs every once in a while with my Ret Pally. He has a shit ton of useful utility to go along with nifty DPS.

More often, I load up a game like Overwatch for the PvP itch. It's laser-focused on PvP, which gives it a huge advantage over MMORPGs. Looking forward to trying our CU to see if I can get back into the habit of MMORPG PvPing again, though.

I honestly don't get why more people that like pvp don't do this. I truly don't. There are games that will satisfy that pvp itch and do it oh so well. Why they continue to rage on mmo devs for not making a good pvp is beyond me.

I think it is because humans are stubborn. I really do.
Only MMORPG where I enjoyed PvP was DAoC. In all the other ones it was just meh. And themeparks are even worse than sandbox MMOs in that aspect. But I don't want to start a PvP discussion here.

Regarding OP: I am a little surprised that you ask what you can do in WoW beside raiding. Just like any other themepark the people who actually raid are the minority. And I am quite sure there is a lot to do in WoW. It's one of the oldest MMOs out there with many expansions.

There is the gist of it, soloers just want to solo. But WoW has been around a long time, I would be very surprised if Blizzard did not have anything for you to solo at top level.

For PvP, I've been playing ESO, though less of late. I'm really tired of the disconnects and lag. Some days are better than others.

Otherwise, I've been playing War Thunder and Star Wars Battlefront 2.

I just have nostalgia for the old days of WoW pvp. It was kind of fun, though I don't know if it was "good" or not. It was not about balance, as I remember. I just liked spamming dots on my lock and winning tough bgs. Or backstabbing on my rogue out of stealth -- never gets old. You know the stuff I'm talking about.

You had to do some grouping, it is not the end of the world, we are talking about a multiplayer game. I had some doubts you were not being serious, but on balance I don't think this is a wind up.
