It depends on the experience you want.

Right now Lord of the Rings Online is very "serene". Oh, there's still life, at least on Brandywine where I play, but it doesn't have the hustle and bustle of something new like Bless. I'm not sure if Bless will have staying power but there is a certain bit of fun for people to learn something new, there's that new game energy, etc.

Pretty simple decision. Bless is a pvp game and LOTRO  is a PvE game. Which do you want?

    My advice: Lotro.
If you choose Lotro and go to Laurelin - feel free to ask my toons for some help if you need some...

LotRO - old school tab target combat with many skills. Skills don't have a global cooldown but they do have a complex animation and cooldown sequence so all skills can't spammed.

There is a heavy emphasis on lore and immersion but not everyone does that in the game. There are silly names alongside lore appropriate stuff. It's very solo-centric, but there is a strong group component. It's just not mandatory for most content. However, if you like running instances and raids that stuff is there.

Bless - hybrid combat system with many skills and an abbreviated hotbar. The skills are chained though so you start out with a small set of openers and can branch off into other skills in the chain.

There is a lot of traditional auto-pathing and some Korean designs you might find familiar in games like Tera. It's pvp centric and there is a lot of contested content.

I'd recommend installing LotRO and seeing how you feel about it now. I'd recommend installing Bless if you want to play something fresh with a lot of launch buzz. The game is active now and that is fun. On the other hand the game does feel Early Access so if you do jump in be prepared for a bumpy ride now and then.

If you do go Bless and you want a guild check out the MMO discord (button at the top of the page). There are faction and server options for MMORPG guilds on either side. I think Tanara is Hieron and Murabi is Union.

Neither. I tried Lotro some months ago and couldn’t get into it cus it just feels so damn old. It hasn’t aged well.

If LotRO felt good for you some time ago and you did not play through it at least once, then that's the game to go to. Stay away from Bless for now.

    Lotro.

If Bless gets decent development speed, which is questionable, it might be a good game in a year or two. But right now Lotro is better.

You could try both say a week and then decide.

I spent a little time in middle earth over the weekend and the game still holds up well. I mentioned in another post this is how you do a themepark. I don't know how long i'll stick with LOTRO but it is a really solid MMO and with the updated graphics pack which was a additional 8gb the game doesnt look all that bad in certain spots. While the Shire was stunning the dwarf area looked extremely dated.

But the mechanics of the game and open-ness is outstanding .

They're working on revamping some early areas to fit with their current world building guidelines. Ered Luin (dwarf and elf starting area) needs some work. I've been playing for so long now I guess I'm used to the look so it doesn't bother me.

Bless is very pretty. It's still going through a lot of dev changes. It doesn't hurt to wait a little for the dust to settle before buying in.

LotRO comparatively for just about everything you might find on a list defining a classic mmo.

Bless.  LotR just felt old, I don't know how else to describe it.  I got Bless a few days ago to see if it was as bad as some make it out to be knowing I could return it if I didn't like it (win-win).  It wasn't... not even close.  I think Bless is great... then again, I'm not rushing though levels and content.

LOTRO is a WoW clone and an old one that has not aged well at all. . If that is what you are looking for then have at it. :#

He's right when he says its a WOW clone because thats exactly what it is, A Vanilla WOW clone minus the PVP. To me thats a great thing. As far as the game aging poorly if you mean graphically i agree but only in certain zones. Like i said previously , The Hobbit starting zone looks great while the dwarf starting zone is laughable.

I love everything about LOTRO, but unless you have access to a group of people, you'll miss out on the best parts of the game. Granted, there is literally a ton of content for the lone wolf, if that's your thing. Of course, I'm playing Bless now and despite HATING on it for the past couple months, I've grown accustomed to it and am actually enjoying my time there. LOTRO definitely has way more content and is a far better game feature wise. Bless is the new kid on the block in NA / EU so it has the "fresh" feel going for it.

I'm having a lot of fun with Bless honestly. But if I wanted a PvE game I'd just go with something like GW2 or ESO, or if you really want to spam group content then FFXIV or WoW.
