I can visibly see that the game is not playing smoothly when it is being demonstrated. I would like Intrepid Studios to prove their concept. As Fevir suggested in his video, we never get to see any demonstrations that would quell some of the concerns people have about the Unreal 4 Engine.
I encourage you to look very closely at the demonstrations and you can see the frame rate is well within eye-detectable levels. (sub 60). That choppiness is exacerbated when a large effect is on screen. I understand the game is in Pre-Alpha but the same dungeon environment, with a few changes, was used seven months ago. Most amateur Unreal 4 Engine builders could get something like that running properly within less time. The dungeon run isn't really that long.
What is now a greater concern is that Intrepid Studios has stated they are using their own proprietary netcode. Whereas, with something this small scale, the regular netcode for Unreal 4 would have been fine. This worries me more as the title seems to struggle in small scale and I doubt it would be able to handle large amounts of players at the present.
As Fevir also suggested, we should be able to see something the game has promised at this point. It's driven by hype and promises that have not come to fruition at all.
But lets encourage Intrepid to do a medium scale demonstration the next time. Merge several groups together like Fevir suggested at the end of the dungeon or during the dungeon.
Lastly, a game so focused on PVP should be demoing PVP engagements not PVE dungeons. What are they afraid of?
