Secret World Legends News - The Funcom forums have a surprising note from Romain Amiel who has announced that he is leaving the company after eleven years, eight of which were spent on The Secret World and Secret World Legends. He writes that he is handing over the reins to Chris Meredith. Amiel does not indicate where he is going or what his next steps may be, but spends almost the entire letter focused on his times with Funcom and the stories left to tell in Secret World.

Funcom makes games with great atmosphere, but terrible game mechanics. I love them for what they try to do, and really want them to succeed. They never quite pull it off though.

I guess as long as the Norwegian tax money keeps rolling in....

I got a book on ethics funcom can barrow, just send me a PM .
You may want to give that book to your pal Richard Garriott. He needs it more than Funcom.

Almost forgot this beauty, a Forum moderator who banned me on the Age of Conan forums deleted my entire account of 80's,

Forum mod wouldn;t be able to do this. Still holding onto that grudge because you got caught breaking the TOS is more like it.

He would never do that, he has a book on ethics you know.

Despite all the crap I have a huge soft spot for Funcom. At least they try different and creative things, I think that should always be rewarded even if the results aren't always top notch, especially in a sea of crappy copycat games.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

NO they took story telling in a MMO setting and turned it into a single player game setting that is not only bad it is wrong. Now don't get me wrong ,i thought Tortage was ok but not in a MMO,Even the beginning of AOC is more a single player start, then just sadly like SWTOR they have buildings/homes locked until you trigger the quest, again a single player design NOT a mmo design, they just don't get it.

The reason he is leaving is likely stress...stress and more stress.Funcom is imo struggling, sure they saved themselves selling more entries into the survival game than i ever would have expected but this will be their forte every year now, just hope and pray.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I'd rather have a good copycat product than a crappy innovative one. Now good copy vs good innovative? I believe I'd still go with the known over unknown. Also, if he really does have a book on Ethics, do you know what that enables him? To exploit loopholes, that's what! :D
Hahaha. And I agree, if I found their games actually crappy I would go with a good copycat. Thats why I said they weren't always top notch, I have never considered them crappy. Crappy elements? Most definitely! But overall I have found their products to be highly original and above average.
