    1) Draws a substantial number of people I would never want to play with keeping them out of the games I enjoy.

    2) Reduces toxicity in games I play.....see #1.

I love games with arenas and PvP, hate battle royale types of games.

Don't like the design or the cartoon graphics.
That streamer Ninja was talking about players only knowing how to shoot, well the game controls are cumbersome.
Not everyone can sit there 12 hours a day playing video games and learning to play the controls fluently.A game should be fluent right away and shouldn't require a lot of time to work the controls.
What made Epic's UT99 so great was the overall scope of combat, from sounds to map layout, zaxis, proficiency with all weapons, prediction etc etc.In UT099 we also had to work our way to a healing pack all the while your opponent knows this and will cut you off.

Well Fortnite dumbs down MOST skills that make fps'rs great.Zaxis is not fought over control of key map points but instead just make your own ramp, hide behind a wall to heal very few options for weapon use,map layout is near meaningless.
Point being that just like Overwatch and PubG,it might be the shiny new but it takes a huge backseat to the king of fps'rs...UT99.

I prefer my pvp in mmorpgs vs random people. The tears are much more delicious.

    Battle royals are cool tho.

i can't say i like anything about Battle Royale games, but i can say that shrinking map is enough reason for me to keep them away from my hard drive. If you want to keep the fight as close as possible then make the overall map size as big as one of the smaller circles and have less people in it. I still wont play but that way they wouldn't waste so many resources building a map nobody is using.

Fortnight has way too many cheaters, Macros, Building Bot, and is worse than PUBG all around when it comes to the ability to gain an unfair advantage / cheat, I've looked these up on Google and they have bots that automatically build and block incomnig fire which is what turns me away from the game.

That may have been misunderstood. I would rather face people I see and know that the random people a huge battle ground brings ;)

Map shrinkage is not a plus in my books, besides it uses building so the entire map is pretty much useless and becomes more about ramps and walls and stairs that you build in a very fast unrealistic way.

I rather face 1 or 2/3 at most in an arena setting, not running around grass and trees and trying to fit in 100 players.
Watching players mechanics imo ruins the visual of the game and the awful constant bunny hopping that everyone does.

Fortnite has way too many cheaters? What are you even talking about? Source on this? PUBG has banned hundreds of thousands of cheaters and has had to delay content in order to prevent it...

They are both solid games, with Fortnite ahead in terms of bugs / optimization. That does not mean it is better, some people are willing to tolerate that. (Obviously a lot of people) Personally I prefer Fortnite because of the things it has that PUBG does not. (I prefer Arcade style shooters and more then just killing) Most PUBG players who hate Fortnite; hate it because of those mechanics. Personally, I can see the value in both but like Fortnite more. It is alright to like things other people don't and it is okay to like them both. It is not okay to pretend that one is straight up better then the other because of issues that may or may not exist and have been proven to exist in an abundance in the other.

I think I preferred the games that these battle royale games spawned from.  Event though I was sick of those.  These games dont interest me at all and I was dumb enough to purchase pubg because thats all I heard about for a month or so.  Im such a sheep lol

Yeah a lot of them do. I think MMO players in general seem to not like them as much because they are very anti-mmo in the way they work.

What a ton of people don't realize is that Battle Royale is not new. It is literally decades old.

    Battle Royale is:

    1) Deathmatch with weapon pickups
    2) Pick spawn location
    3) One life

This mode has existed for a long time, it is just now becoming the new hotness, similar to how Overwatch is a "Hero Shooter" but it's roots are in games from the late 90s. Numbers don't really matter. There are BRs with 10 players. There is a BR coming out with 1000. The reality is that it boils down to those 3 things regardless of how you spin it. It does not need to be an FPS either.

I mostly have played MMOs or rpgs since I started gaming....but some of the younger people in my discord are really into fortnite so I squeeze in a few games with them between divinity 2 sessions...

Fortnite is actually a very good game....I like it for many of the reasons others don't....the forced action and the building are wonderful features for me.....the only problem is it takes quite a bit of practice and key rebinding at first and the game offers no practice mode... can be really frustrating for quite a while before you start having fun....my advice is run with a squad that knows what they are doing and try to absorb as much as you can....it can be very exhilarating to be with a squad that comes from behind to win it all...super satisfying

Number 11: You are more likely to be up against skilled players when you play a proper shooter.
  • FusionFusion Member UncommonPosts: 1,398
The 'genre' and it's success is detrimental to the gaming industry as a whole like every past 'niche'-success. For the foreseeable future, gaming companies are going to waste resources into the genre in hopes for quick cash-grabs instead of being innovatite and we'll all be the poorer for it.
