4x space games

MMOman101MMOman101 Member UncommonPosts: 1,786
I am looking for a newer 4x space game.  I would prefer one where I in theory could play indefinitely.  I like games where you can design you own ships.  I would prefer it a newer game, last 5 years.  I have played  many of these, but hardly all of them.

Also the game needs to be turn based. No ream time.

Thanks in advance.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Maybe tell us what you've played and we can maybe recommend others?

For example, Endless Legend is one that I personally enjoy, but you may have already played it, it's pretty popular.

(I know it's not really a space game, but it's got aliens)

    Galactic Civilizations 3, maybe?

    Galactic Civilization series
    Space Empires 5
Star Trek Birth of the Federation
    Imperium Galactica 2
    Master of Orion series
Sins of a Solar Empire series
    Stellaris
    Endless Space series
    Reach for the Stars
    Armada 2525 Gold
    Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri

Some of the older games are much better than the newer ones. Per your 5 year time range.
The last 5 years you have Galactic Civilizations 3, Stellaris, Endless Space 2. The new Masters of Orion wasnt bad and you get a free copy of MOO 2 which is deemed one of the best 4x space games.

I play all the above here and there and enjoy them. Many of these are sandbox and can last forever or modified to be "endless" .

    Hope this helps

Distant Worlds is the pinnacle of 4x games , altho not new , everything else pales in comparison .. Its not even close ... http://store.steampowered.com/app/261470/Distant_Worlds_Universe/

Polaris Sector is a very underrated game .. one of the better space 4x ..http://store.steampowered.com/app/418250/Polaris_Sector/

And altho not a 4x in the purest sense .. Star Traders:Frontiers is in EA , but well well along very playable extremley immersive and a Briliant design .. With extremly active devs that update and fix at feverish pace ... http://store.steampowered.com/app/335620/Star_Traders_Frontiers/

I have not played the new MOO.  Of the games that I have played.  What ones have the best ship building, most tune-able AI and settings, and have no turn limit?

I think those are the 3 things I care most about.

I have star traders on my watch list.   I don't touch games till they have been out at least 6 months for the most part.  Polaris sector is also on my watch list.  The reviews have been shaky though.

    Distant worlds looks really interesting.

    Thanks.

I founded Sorcery King by watching forums talk about 4x games.Although fun for a bit i soon wanted the game to be more.
So i listen again, check out Distant worlds, nuh uh,it doesn't even implement the use of space properly,as space looks more like a see through texture onto a flat world.

I used to long for any space game, then my first was Star Wars games,i soon became bored and after time realized ALL space games are severely lacking. The reason is simple, space games are trying to be and should be realizing several games in one and since it is so hard to find a single planet game doing just land things,it is very much tougher to expect Indie studios to pul off space games.

I will still check around,i like to discover new games to play, even my most hated genres Moba's and ARPG's are still looked over but seeing the trends in game design of late ,i see more lack of effort than effort.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
