Overwatch News - PCGameN is reporting that the first female Overwatch player is ready to join the professional ranks in the Overwatch League. "Geguri" is a world class Zarya player and has sent out a Twitter clip indicating she's going to be joining a "foreign team" and that she'd received many offers from League owners. She did not say which team she is joining, though the speculation is that it will be the New York Excelsior.

    Perhaps it's significant because: 1) she never should have been left out in the first place. She's flipping amazing; 2) she's the first female in the OW League...see point 1; 3) it's an interesting factoid.

    If you actually followed the League, you'd know and understand that there's been a lot of discussion about how she was left out of the recruitment efforts. She is THE top Zarya player in the world. And she's only 18. *eyeroll* Monday trolls are so fun.

    Being a woman coming from an Asian country this type of stuff makes me angry and impotent and I look to the West to do things differently and it annoys me that Overwatch a Blizzard game definitely western does this crap too but glad it got rectified.

    It's.... not an athletic sport. There is no tangible advantage that a male would have over a female or vice versa. We have male and female wrestling leagues for a reason, but this is different. Talent, communication, practice, and reflexes don't really discriminate.

    Wow, impressive indeed, but to me for a whole different reason. Kudos to anyone who can not only stomach playing Zarya but also spend enough time playing her to become no.1 and not kill themselves in the process. Her willpower-level must be out of this world.

    Well lets talk frankly for a second. If she was attractive, she would not only be part of some top team from the very start, but she'd also become country's face of Overwatch and have a marketing contract etc etc.  We know how this bussiness works. Looks is a double edged sword for girls in gaming. Being attractive can push them places with amazing speed, being unattractive is like walking with shackle balls on each leg.

    That might play a part in it, but it is my tendency to not assume circumstances. There are any number of team composition, communication, and personal connection issues, among other things which could contribute to any professional player being overlooked for pro teams.
