Tree of Life News - The Tree of Life team has sent word that it is introducing a new currency called Boboo that is similar in style to the real-world Bitcoin. Players are sent out to a specific location to mine for a limited number of coins. These can be bought and sold on a marketplace, though with limited quantities, players need to be strategic about trades. Interestingly, the player who finds the most Boboo coins will receive a real life version made of solid gold.

Can someone confirm this? You can make real money playing the game? I'm wondering cause I have a copy of the game but not playing it anymore. I have searched the site and forums but couldn't find anything about this.

From what I took out of the press announcement is that ONE person will get a golden Boboo coin IF they are the one who mines out the most in-game. It didn't say how often they would run this promotion or if it's an ongoing thing or what. I'd be pretty skeptical if I were you if you're hoping to make millions. :D

Just started playing this game this weekend and seems fun so far. Could do with a few more people but I like it so far.

A 1/20 oz coin would have less than $100 worth of gold. Based on them not announcing anything about their golden BoBoo Coin's value, they're likely giving out only something cheap.

It's an ad trick, not a way one could earn money.

Its a survival game so yes they will. Rather an odd choice for those graphics I must admit, it looked family friendly. :)

So to succeed they are going to make Tree of Life into a gambling casino.  That is just bad logic.

Yea, according to steam reviews, it's a really horrific brutal dog-eat-dog world filled with griefers who will tear down everything they see at the first opportunity.

Too bad.  When I found the game months ago and saw the graphics and saw it had housing and tons of sandbox features, I was really interested in getting and playing it.  And then I read the reviews.

Indeed, a really odd choice considering the happy graphics.

    That's open-PvP for ya, I suppose.

The dude in the picture looks like he has breasts.

Can I assume there is no male/female selection, but a slider instead to choose how far along your character is in their gender reassignment?

No sliders and there are genders. This game had it's glory moments in way way way EA... it's a former shell of it's better self now, which would make you think it should be the reverse but it's not.

This is the reason why I hate PvP in these types of games. Why would I put in any work forget it no thanks.

Apparently the game is in early access with an estimated release date of 2015.  I'd say that either they missed their target date or else this site really needs to be updated.

ridiculous....smart devs will never share the view that PvP and loss are a bad thing, and neither will the majority of gamers...since most ALL of the top played games have PvP....

ya'll just huddle here together trying to reinforce each other in your little corner making it seem like theme park MMOs, with no loss or consequences, were the glory days....they sucked and most of us are glad they are dying. When will you people understand that getting everything you want gets boring in like 2 seconds? Seriously, all you get with no PvP or item loss is a bored player base crying for content the second they gobble it up, and a shitty economy where crafting is worthless..yay...

The game released a long time ago and still get patched surprisingly. However, as people mentioned it's quite barren due to the limited restriction on pvp in the game. It had a runescape like leveling system which was interesting, however it's kinda in bad state atm.

Nah.  It's just a contest where the winner gets a real gold coin as the first place prize.

It sure made me (and several others) think of that scam bit coin before reading the article closely though.  ...probably because that's what they worded it as until you actually read what it's about.

....like, seriously, have they been living under a rock the past three months to think associating anything in their game with bitcoin was a good idea?
