People say class imbalance like its a bad thing. I always enjoyed riding the flavor of the month hype after every patch in the oldschool MMOs. I enjoyed taking those FOTM's down more, even if it meant it took a whole group to drop one hehe. One players OP class is another groups PVP boss fight I guess.

Personally, I prefer the non-mirrored classes like WAR had; it made PvP way more enjoyable for me. They were similar enough and performed similar roles, but were still balanced differently enough to make the factions feel different. Games like SWTOR have boring PvP to me, as the classes are skill-to-skill exactly the same across factions, just with different visual effects.

I agree.  There's an extra layer of depth involved when classes mirror one another but utilize significantly different mechanics.

I enjoy the sense of intrigue it creates in my enemies. When I've played them all and get them all its just less interesting to face them.

This was one of those mmo's which I missed out on, and by the time I thought about playing it was near empty and soon to be shut down. I've been linked this or other private versions over the past couple of years and I might just give this a shot. As a hardcore pvper whose bored shitless with modern mmo pvp I could use a new (old but new) distraction.

I can vouch for this server, have a 40 runepriest, though I haven't played it in awhile. My only recommendation to anyone planning to play there, don't mouth off to, or around the staff, they are ruthless and take absolutely no shit from anyone, which isn't really a bad thing. Don't run your mouth in open warbands, because sometimes you don't know who is a staff member, you talk shit to other players and you'll face the banhammer quickly for stupidity.

In other words: "Don't speak, don't suggest, don't criticize, don't complain or there is a HIGH CHANCE of a BAN. Sometimes really long lasting". These devs are HIGHLY authoritarian, don't give them your time. This is one of those Pvt Servers which give them ALL a bad rep. Where devs are literally god modding.

Let WAR rest in peace. These so called do gooders and saviours are nothing more than power hungry necromancers.

WAR was fun, I really liked their class concepts, their introduction of public quests to the MMO genre, and the fact that we could level while doing PvP instances rather than be forced to grind PvE.  I played the game for 3 months and enjoyed it while it lasted.

Unfortunately there were issues that caused the game to nosedive.

    1. -Lack of content past Tier 3 was evident, you really felt it and it was anticlimactic for you to progress through these levels only to find that the game wasn't finished towards the end.  Once the game lost its PvE endgame players, it lost half of its population.  Game launched in September, had 750k subscribers by October, but reduced to 300k players by end of December.

    2. -Public Quests were overused.  You had PQ's in PvE, you had PQ's in RvR, public quests were everywhere, forced onto you whether you liked it or not.  Because PQ was a random system, you could've played your hearts out and never got rewarded for it.  Both in PvE and RvR, if you were unlucky, you simply didn't get loot.  That was a fatal flaw with the design, and many got discouraged over-time due to public quests.

    3. -Because people were so starved of loot and rewards, RvR became musical keeps after awhile.  Realms started to avoid each other because the faster you took keeps, the more chances you had at getting a roll for something.  So it was more rewarding to take empty keeps and avoid having to fight.  We've seen these fatal design flaws in RvR games since DAOC introduced RvR.  Things were just worse in WAR.

It was a fun game, but had issues that people just couldn't overlook.  But all in all it was a successful AAA title launch, with 1.2 mil copies sold within 2 weeks, 750k subscribers within 1 month.  Unfortunately it couldn't retain players due to the issues mentioned above.  Oh and the engine had issues handling large large scale RvR like city sieges, but what's new.

I'm glad people are having fun with the emu.  I myself can't get motivated to play on emus of dead games.

    1. Yeah, true. One simply has to compare the layout of RvR lakes to notice this. One goes from very nicely designed Keeps and rolling hills etc to a basically flat panel where you run / ride from one side to the other. Also visible in other parts of t4.

    2. Sort of. What interests me, if someone implemented such a blatant in game gamble system TODAY, would there be or wouldn't there be ruckus over it?

    3. True. Keep / Zone trades were very normal thing to notice. 0 fights only chasing rewards. And rewards were TOO POWERFUL in WAR. They put some PvE progression systems to shame lol(in power creep / acquired sort of way)!

The only people i have seen have trouble with these devs are those that deserve it .. By being a dick in chat or on the forums...

These devs are doing this for free .. Why should they tolerate some idiots BS .. I wouldnt .. Its hard work and they have done a fine job..

Be respectful of the devs and the community if you have a concern there a ways to discuss with out being a dick .. Otherwise enjoy the ban ..

Yeah, they have a nasty habit of silencing the critiques or advice for improving the game with "stfu ; what do you know ; are you a dev?".

While some did deserve what they got, these devs are anything but paragons of good and decent morale / behavior. They are a bunch of stuck up elitists IMMENSELY enjoying their power.

Most of forum bans happened directly because they GOADED people. They are abrasive, rude, hypocritical and sometimes outright deceitful. Not a bunch of people I want to have anything in common with.

To finalize, if they really cared about WAR as much as they claim they do, they'd release the Source Code and allow people to create their own pvt.servers. BUT! They are doing the EXACT THING they were very worried about when they bought(iirc) the code from Dyox. Corollary? They don't care that much about the game itself.

At this point I think Dyox would've handled this with more grace.
Yeah right release the source code and let other people create their own private servers. Split the already small playerbase and kill the game for good.  That's a very smart decision... I won't answer to your other claims.I still remember your old thread about how we should avoid this server because they banned you. Aww...

Well, how do you know it'd wither? Maybe some devs would be more welcoming / less authoritarian and could manage over 10000 players / weekend?

But we won't know, because they don't want to release it. THE EXACT SAME REASON WHY THEY LAMBASTED DYOX! NEVER FORGET!

edit: It wouldn't kill the game, but kill RoR(potentially) and, more likely, bring competition to it so both(or however many there were) would become better. By pure necessity. And I fail to see how this is bad for anything except RoR. And thus I fully understand their selfish stance.

    @TimEisen Welcome back!

I recently played on that same WAR server and it was a lot of fun.   I found it less fun as I graduated from the lower levels and found that they had tied all the other tiers together.  I get that they wanted a huge population there but I just didn't care for it.

They did a great job on the server though!

I've only had good experiences on the RoR servers. It's usually easy to find an open warband for some large scale open world PvP, in tier 1(lvl 1-15) and tier 4(endgame lvl 31-40) at least. There's also instanced scenarios to queue for with smaller scale PvP and equal numbers on both teams. WAR has some of the best class design in MMORPG's imo, it's a alt-friendly game. The game lacks in PvE, suffers from desync issues especially in large battles, and tier 4 is less fun than lower tiers most of the time for me.

I prefer tier 1 and sometimes tier 2 PvP because there's none or less of AoE healing, AoE dmg and crowd control. Gear and RR(PvP rank) matters too much in tier 4 for my liking, so you get fewer even and fun fights than in lower tiers. AoE healing is also extremely powerful in endgame which has a negative impact on PvP imo. I say that with the strongest AoE healer in the game as my favourite class, the Warrior Priest.

I enjoyed leveling twinks while doing pvp was fadter then Pven. I am really sad this game was shuting down. I expected one or two more years in it. A great addon with expanding the classes and worlds. But hell no!

I still miss my pre-nerf Warrior Priest hammering on a door and keeping everyone around me safe from burning oil by doing pretty well only that :)

TBH, I don't even remember why I quit WAR, I have nothing but good memories of it.

If I recall correctly it was because the end game gear was obtained by running the PvP scenarios where you siege the enemy home cities and it was broken to give gold bags to those who were in the battle the longest... so people never left the queues and eventually most were just AFK.

I enjoyed the game, but I didn't really like how the PvP was done. I didn't like the rewards for RR compared to daoc and the constant keep flipping. People rarely defended.

The game was also rushed out the door. They cut it down from 6 cities to 2, and I even remember there was talk of a 3rd faction originally.

It had solid numbers for a while, better than a lot of games can say today. If it came out 5 years later without all the corners they cut, probably would have been a hit.

Hahaha! That gave me a really good laugh; I remember that as well. Sieging a keep thinking you had enough to take it, only to turn around and see a third or more of the warband just disappear. Thanks for reminding me.

SCs are what ruined War, i complained about it in BETA testing thru live .. It destroyed the game ..
Why build a game based upoun RvR lakes then remove the players from the lakes .. All they ever had to do was make all Gear set pieces droppable in LAkes .. at low % .. But  that alone still would have increased the Lakes pop and boosted the economy .. Foolish move to add the ScS ..

Now they could of had SCs for practice but not reward gear and XP .. maybe a currency for Cosmetics .. but .. they needed to keep players in the Lakes .. Not spend the majority of there time in town in Q

And another note a good WB did not permit queing .. that got you kiked ..

i play on here, the squishiest class(bw) and yes stuns/knockbacks can be rough...if you don't realize what class you are playing. once in a blue moon i get pulled into the enemy but i know it could be coming because im taking a risk. learn positioning its half the battle.

I was in the same boat. The answer I found was the game world lagged so badly it became unplayable so the PVP BGs were a work-a-round. The problem is they offered quicker PVP, better rewards and 0 travel time. Most player always take the easiest path and well the game world died a quick death. It was so frustrating to see it all coming, talk about it and see it still in like that at launch.

ANY criticism, no matter how polite, well-meaning, and constructive, is met with insults and a ban. These devs are children on a power trip, and they've made sure to surround themselves with a community of sycophants and yes-men. If that's the kind of community they want then fine; it's their server and they can do as they damn well please. I certainly don't want any part of it though, and would urge anyone who absolutely cannot live without WAR to play the game without saying anything which could be even remotely construed as negative in chat or on the forums. In fact, you're best off not talking to anyone and pretending the forums don't exist. And if you're going to do that, well, why play an MMORPG at all?

Warhammer was actually a tragedy of a game.  I still to this day can't believe the same team that developed DAOC was responsible for putting this game together.  They basically ignore years.. years of lessons learned from DAOC and put out a game destined to fail.

It's like they said.. we are going to ignore the greatest RvR/PvP game ever created and just go do our own things, come up with our own ideas and the people will love them!  So stupid.
