Monster Hunter World producer Ryozo Tsujimoto has gone on record to shun the notion that there will be loot boxes in the game or any type of "pay to win" mechanics". According to Tsujimoto, that type of mechanic "creates friction" and detracts from the main idea of the game, namely that it is a cooperative experience.

    It does have loot boxes. They roar, stomp around, breathe fire, and have to be killed before you can open them!

    You know the industry is fucked when a developer feels the need to declare that his game isn't trying to steal your lunch money.

    Still, this guy is a class act and should be rewarded. Same applies to Dauntless. Both games were prime for lootboxes, and both games rejected them. Let's put the rivalry between these two aside and support both.

    It's funny because even if they have Micro-transactions in it, you can't kill a Rathalos by throwing $$$ on your screen because this game is all skill and mastery of each monsters.

    Every dev says this during development and forgets/denies ever saying it a year after launch.

    Its worth pointing out that its still a full priced game with a cash shop.

    you can buy all the armor you want and all the loot boxes you can get with your money... MH is all about skill.. since forever... YOU CANT BUY THAT! all this wannabe mh players worried about loot boxes... LOL
