I want your opinions on video games. For science!

Hey all,

I've made a survey that tells you what type of gamer personality you are. Are you an Immersion Engineer, or an Escape Artist? Do you battle with real people or seclude to the shadows in a world of your own making?

The reason why I made it is to gather research on people's gaming behaviours. This study for my masters thesis at The University of Sydney. Now as a gamer myself (WoW Heroic Tomb of Sargaras Raider), I feel like I have a good grasp of the gaming community, but as with all things, you need to do the research to confirm/disconfirm these assumptions.

The survey itself is looking to explore information about:

• Different aspects of your personality

• What video games you play

• How much you play by yourself and with other people

• The impacts of your video game use on your daily life

You can find a link to the survey and more information here (you might need to disable adblocker):

So let me know what you think. Do you think I guessed right? What did I miss?

One more thing. A survey like this is limited, and doesn't give people a voice to add what they want to say. I really encourage open opinions about the video game community and maybe how the news and public have a negative view of video games. Whenever I present, I add the personal messages people have sent me to encourage other researchers to remember that we are people too, not just numbers. Tell me what you think and let me know if I can share your comments in my presentations.

Thank you,

Gavin

Reclusive Tactician and Immersion Engineer do seem to describe me.  I play most genres of game excluding shooters, and I definitely evaluate games I might try according to what kind of experience they might be.  My favorite game games are probably 1. Tactical/time management, 2. jRPG or story-based MMO, 3. oldschool adventure, 4. Strategy, 5. Acton/arcade, 6. Puzzle/solitaire.  Because I'm looking for an experience, sandboxes don't work well for me even though they have lots of engineering potential.

As a person who isn't very impulsive or spontaneous, and who rejects experiences that make me unhappy, I tend not to have problems with addiction.  I don't know if I would struggle more with my craving for game time if I had less free time though.

I found the question about first video game puzzling.  Your first game is always given to you or recommended strongly to you by someone else, so the genre is unlikely to say anything about you as a gamer.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

    Hello.
I play online video games, I'm new, I play about half a year, while I'm practicing and studying.
On the game, I spend about 5 hours a week, try to play in my spare time.
I try not to damage the family and work, I play for fun http://getcasinobonus.co.nz/

Very interesting. I got the following results:

    Clan Lord

    Immersion Engineer

Immersion engineer I can see being a pretty general one that most people identify with on some level but it is pretty spot on. I go from game to game to game a lot and have to make a conscious effort to devote myself to one game sometimes to preserver the social relations I've built in that game. I also love most genres of games other than sports games.

Clan Lord is a very interesting one because nowhere in this survey did I mention I've ever lead of served in leadership capacity of a guild/clan. I have. In fact I'd say I've spent about 90% of my time in multiplayer games as the leader of the guild I belong to. So this one is very spot on, not very general, and I'm really not sure how they know that.

    Cool test.

Edit: Ehhh after reviewing the description again I see they are just going on about how I enjoy the social interaction. So it is very general in the description, but the title seems very specific and just happens to be super on the money for me.
