all 3 are action oriented, which one do you prefer?

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Only played ESO and the combat was pretty terrible.

But then, I don't enjoy action combat, so I'd probably think all 3 were terrible!

BDO because the combat can entirely be done with combinations of keys instead of having to utilize mapped out spells on a bar. It feels good to fight in it, as opposed to the other two, I can solo anything as long as I utilize all my skills properly. It's just fun to play.

BDO's combat is so good that it shames most action games and it has some really interesting concepts in the workers and gear upgrading, but it has hefty downsides in the grind, the power imbalance at higher levels due to gear differences and its nagging ability to make you feel forced to have a char logged in 24/7 and to pay the monthly fee for value packs.  Great game to play for awhile but there is a reason many don't continue to play it for too long.  I would recommend it for any fan of MMO's but I wouldn't recommend it for a long-term commitment.

If you do play BDO and afk fish or whatever with it minimzed please be sure to have an external program limit your fps and monitor gpu temps.  Im not sure if they have fixed it in the last few months but things used to get hot if you DC'd while the game was minimized to taskbar and I had one friend lose a GPU to it.

Isnt BDO the one where you have to perform olympic level finger gymnastics to pull off all the different combo's available to each class?

It's the one where you can leave your hand on wasd for a lot of attacks, shift, Q, E and F are also used, but since they are right next to your resting hand anyway its pretty easy compared to other hotkeys.

Consider WASD moves you but you can tap shift+w or A+F to queue an attack. Its pretty easy and it makes the combat feel nice.

It feels like more of a high school band than a olympic gymnast level of playstyle.

Of the three, only ESO was horrendous for me.  I think BDO is deeper while GW2 is more simplified.  I look at them that way but I do like BDO and GW2 for what they are for me.

Black Desert has an excellent system plus it looks outstanding and flows like smoooooth butter. I absolutely loved combat with my lightning Witch. The rest of the game though.. not for me. If it had more story focused content and proper group activities instead of just PvP endgame I'd be all over it like a rash.

I like the combat for all of them though. ESO needs to sort out the animation cancelling glitch though.. the game has actually become balanced around it now. I know they never will.

GW2 comes last though because you can't change the slots of the first 5 skills. Absolutely hate it. Not exact a 'combat' issue, but it affects combat I suppose. They really need to fix that problem.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

When it comes to the actual feel of combat then I would rank them BDO -> GW2 -> ESO

If you're looking for some actual content and a story then you might as well take BDO off the list altogether. Really is a shame, I love the way BDO feels, but even with the appearance of complexity in it's systems it really is just a mindless (depending on class) grinder for no reason other than to do it.

Darkfall had the best combat in an MMO that I personally have ever experienced.

but I do wish gamers would start thinking more about features outside of just combat

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

GW2. It's a nice balance of an arcade feel with some depth to it. I also find it the easiest in terms of deciding where your spells land - you have a floating cursor a good amount of the time, allowing you to click the exact spot where your AOE spell should be targeted. (This is a bit more awkward in ESO, as the cursor is locked).

ESO felt a bit too simple for me. The first person combat is nice and feels a bit like Skyrim (which I like), but it gets repetitive.

I played a Ranger in BDO and the combat had an amazing flow to it. Something I enjoy about my Elementalist in GW2 as well. The combat in BDO is more tied to the movement, which makes the flow of it stand out even more. It felt a little too chaotic though - dodging all over the place, while hoping your skills hit as many mobs as possible.
