Cloud Pirates News - My.com has announced that it will be sunsetting Cloud Pirates on September 29th. There is no definitive word on why the game is closing, but it is safe to assume that it simply did not catch on as the company had hoped.

It could have been cool. The concept interested me, except it was all about pvp battles.  I'd love a fun pve steampunk like this. No one has done steampunk right, yet.

Too bad, the game looks pretty. I could see getting a ship and just cruising around watching the view.

It is more than safe to assume the game didnt catch on.

Look at steam charts - peak all time users 1732.

    Peak players last 30 days - 212. Average players last 30 days - 103

The game has a 72% rating on Steam and 77% recent rating - both of which are "Mostly Positive".

Just goes to show you, you can have a well reviewed, decent game that simply has no traction.

Traction requires major marketing in additon to a good game as otherwise this is what happens - not enough players.

No wonder why some games spend more on marketing than game dev

Not enough interest to warrant anyone trying to do it right.

Apparently true for the pvp games too since their churn is so insanely high. I think they're just so cheap to churn out, by comparison, that studios go for the low hanging fruit. That's why we see so many of them languish so soon after launch like ArcheAge, BnS, all the fly by night battle arenas, etc. The reason why Lineage 1 has lasted so long because NCSoft successfully married pvp and pve. That has only happened a few times since.

Stupid skyships idea has completely ruined original Allods setting and gameplay and continue killing more games today.

Meanwhile Sandbox Interactive reproduced original Allods gameplay and graphics in their Albion Online (sans questing) and semi-successfully capitalized on the idea.

    Thank you for your time!

Are you talking about Rage of Mages? Because Allods wasn't ever like Albion is. Allods online was a WoW clone that worked pretty well until P2W took over a month after beta.

Sky ships were a cool idea, I think it could work if they would release a fully fleshed out game that wasn't pay to win and had it in it.

It will be interesting to see where Albion sits in 6 months and a year. My Magic 8-Ball says, "Outlook not so good."

First ranking publisher  of all years - Aeria game (Run if you see it)
Second ranking publisher of now - My.com (Hide yourself)

As of now, both publishers have a very high rating on shutting down their products.
Even perfect world salute them on clearing their waste so fast.
