To be honest, after I learned about Slaughterwolf nothing else piques my interest.
Read my post above, CU classes do sound interesting but I think Ashes class system could end up being the standard to beat. All depends on how the balance it. There is more depth in their class system then any MMO I have played to date.

Right, right, right.  Wake me up if and when this one launches, along with all the other pies in the sky.

Literally every single time more info on Ashes of Creation comes out, my feeling that it'll crash and burn keeps getting stronger.

Come on, really? Just Mage and Tank?

If this game was as revolutionary/innovative as people claim they want the next game to be, no one would play it.

quite so, there is a fine balance between innovation and the game actually being fun...

everyone is always so negative about everything

We have a unique and detailed class system, which we will discuss further in a developer’s blog. For now, I can say that we have 8 archetypes. You will choose an archetype as your primary class that you will level from starting level to max level. Along the way, you will choose a secondary class from the 8 archetypes. That secondary class will augment your primary class’ abilities and skills. In total, our class system will have 64 distinct classes, of which there will be a wide variety of customization in skills and abilities based on the player’s choices.

from the AOC FAQ so Tank-Cleric is a different class than Cleric-Tank so 8x7 +8 if you dont pick a secondary I assume?

All the bases classes? Because this doesn't make sense if they are planning to branch sub-classes off these 4.
They have 8 base classes, Tank, Fighter, Rogue, Summoner, Cleric, Bard, Mage and Ranger. Each of there classes are later paired to augment your class into something more. This would make the class you play. We have not been given that info yet but if you start out as a Tank and pick Mage as your second class, you could be a Battlemage. Tank base class and Cleric secondary class you could be a Paladin.

These skills you see now will evolve into something more as you progress. You can earn augmentations by the race, religion, secondary class and more. To give you an idea how that works. A Mages skill "After Image" after picking Cleric as a secondary class could augment "After Image" with the Cleric skill "Stolen Blessing" so the copies of the mage when they expire could blow up and damage enemies and heal allies in range of the copies.

This will lead to thousands of option. As you notice you have 8 skills, each doing more then one thing. Augmentation deepens that even more. Like the Clerics large heal also being used as a res. Taking us away from having 50-80 skills and a million hotkey/bars. This will make combat more fluid. Stop you from fumbling because 1/2 your screen is filled with hotbars. Letting you focus on combat. About time I say. This also opens up Ashes to port to consoles very easily. What you are seeing here is skin deep on their class system.
Thank you for your thorough explanation. This makes a lot of sense and is a pretty good class system in my opinion. Well done Team Ashes (forgot their company's name! :| )

I Like all the familiar Classes and the familiar spells. They are a great bass after all this is still in development. I have faith in Ashes of Creation to come up with more advanced spells that No one else has. and i look forward to seeing the final product. :-) Have faith, This is Only the beginning of a great game in the making. It is not even in the Alpha Stage yet hahaahha. Patience is a virtue

That's what people have been saying for the 1543294 mmorpgs that were in alpha/beta/kickstarter whatever etc etc. Look how many that actually succeeded in creating something fun and unique that 'no one else has' :P

I'm hoping to be proven wrong, though.

@SBFord I think that the article should mention that the classes shown are only four out of eight planned base classes. People get confused.

8 skills? ONLY.. Hopes it's only for PAX.

It bothers me that the healer is the only class without a perception skill line on the list.

Yeah just like none of the others can heal or cleanse an area. /s

On topic - Well I'm loving the base classes and their abilities. Yes they are fairly standard (apart from the perception skills ) but you have to have a familiar and strong base to build on. I expect there will be more base classes further down the road and we already know we can sub-class so plenty of variety there to get started with.

I'm already having a nightmare deciding what to main from Cleric, Ranger and Mage and wether to sub-class any or stay pure. Hell I never play Tank roles and that even looks interesting here.

I am absolutely gagging for this game, I cannot wait.

You obviously know zero about the game. Go do some reading, it will lessen your ignorance.

    Nanfoodle even explains briefly above.

Dang, I was hoping for another full length video of the devs talking excitedly about the dynamic game world they totally can pull off in a reasonable timeframe.

I have a feeling these are working names. Also it does say in the article 4 of the 8 classes.

It's pre alpha, give it a few months

They're not. These are the confirmed revealed, game solidified names. And they're horrible.

Tank should not be Tank. Knight. Shield Bearer. King's Guard. People's Champion. Shield Fury. Armored Berserker. All better than just "tank". Or even Ash Guard. Creation's Shield. Shield of Creation. Still better.

They lack any sense of creativity.

Except it usually just ends up being a FOTM thing where only certain combinations are viable, this is particularly true when it comes to games that have PVP. The biggest mistake they are making at the moment, is once again, tying specific weapons with classes, its not just over simplification, its extremely limiting and imo a dumb idea. :/

Tank huh.. I guess, since thats the offical name, there will be places in the game like the tank academy. NPC's will be looking for a tank to help them with their vermin problem and people will raise statues of mighty tanks praising their heroic deeds...

It literally makes no sense, Tank is just a description usually  attributed to a heavily armoured fighter that specialises in sword and shield, i can't help but feel that a lot of these 'classes' will undergo some significant revisions before the game hits beta.

So far, so generic.  What MMORPG these days doesn't have these classes? But it's not out yet so there's still time for it to achieve the hopes and dreams of its backers who paid so much of their money presumably so they could have something else besides the typical generic MMORPG that they could just go play right now, slim as the chances always are for a crowd-funded MMO.  ....very very slim.

You actually read the article! Reading through most of the posts I kept thinking, "They didn't read the article." I think people love to comment on the title and pictures alone.
I'd be a bit worried if it was based on the pictures alone, as the Cleric looks a bit like a guy cross dressing as an Anime Magical Girl :p

Yes, because "knight" makes more sense. We all know that "knights" all have the role of "tanks". That's just a give right? So what monarch is doing all the knighting in these games and what order do they all belong to? Of course there will be a lot of revisions before beta. The game is in a pre-alpha state. Change is inevitable.
Knights aren't really Tanks, they are a type of fighter that specialised in mounted combat, a Tank is a Sword and Board specialised warrior, not sure where you got the Knight bit from honestly as i can't think of an MMO offhand that has them.

No Phry, a knight is a person who has a titled bestowed on them by a monarch. Those class names are arbitrary designations based on cultural stereotypes to generate a concept or archetype in our minds. That's all. There's not a lot of wrong or right answers when it comes to that.
True enough, generally when people think of Knights, they are more associated with Arthurian legend, and Jousting etc. But definitely not as 'Tanks' which in traditional MMO nomenclature is just a fighter/warrior that wears heavy armour and usually specialises in weapon+shield combat skills, which is what i assume Tank is projected to be in this game, though if that also means that Fighters in the game can't use sword and shield combat skills, nor wear heavy armour, then would have to wonder exactly where they are going with this after all, even Bard is often a sub-class of Rogue. :/
