    What lol?

Anyway looks good and seems like a nice thing to try out if you're on the fence on pre-ordering.

like always: design and graphic wise looks good. This time voiceover and music also great, but the shallowness and meaninglessness this game sorrounds makes GW2 into a epic failure for me.

So for me, i wont buy it. Maybe GW3 has a chance.

Only a section of the map is available (they have teleport boundaries around it, it's not the full map). Never-the-less, it's pretty great. I absolutely LOVE the raptor so far. It's very fluid and feels nice and weighty when moving/turning and using it's movement ability. Not to mention that super cute little hop it does when you start moving. The race event is neat, bounties are cool, yadda yadda yadda. I'll need to see more during the next beta event, but so far PoF is looking to be a win in my book.

    My thoughts so far...
The mount movement so far seems fluid and natural.
The night time in the crystal desert is pretty awesome.
Chef game and Casino game are fun new mechanics.

They added a lot more of the community mini games. It seems like the focus so far with this expansion is to get the community playing the game together, rather than solo play. There seems to be lots of open world content and events popping off with decent rewards. You can get in, play for 5 min and jump out in most of what they have shown far.

I like the fact that the demo is available for everybody to try out. I think GW2 is in a good place currently - took a while I guess - and I hope Anet will keep it up.

I'm kind of underwhelmed by it..

On one hand, ANet have given every other game designer a masterclass in how to do mounts.

On the other hand, I just want to pick up a quest and have some sort of direction! I arrived in the new zone and it was just like.. oh, this again. Very little context for what you are doing. Chaos everywhere because no one has any direction other than fill in the map markers. How many of you started off by jumping around trying to interact with the bounty board? There was a hell of a lot of us...

5 hours of playing and I have absolutely nothing to show for it, other than the mount of course. No meaningful loot (literally nothing except salvageable stuff and crafting stuff and that's all you will ever get in this game once you have exotics for your build).. no memorable story line.. I achieved nothing and I did the same thing you do in every map. I just.. don't see the point anymore?

Man, if this game stopped trying to be different in the context and loot design it would be so much better.

I wanted to love it but sadly I don't. I think I might finally buy FFXIV instead of this. I've played enough GW2 now.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

It is intentionally this way. They have turned off the story (other than the first couple of minutes) to not spoil anything. The point is to run around and get a feel for the new map design and mount.

Other than, I guess ''what is the point of GW2?'' has always been a thing. You don't have clear goals to achieve hence getting the feeling that you are just running around aimlessly. PoF isn't going to change that.

As a person who enjoys GW2 and plays the game on and off, GW2 has always been about finding things that I find fun to do. It is a game that is centered around making goals for yourself... maybe you want to work towards a legendary weapon, a nice skin that you have always wanted or an achievement that you haven't gotten yet. Instead of the intrigue of actually finding a legendary item out in the world - or in a dungeon or raid -, GW2 is all about check-lists. ''I want this item so I am gonna work for it playing the game mode that enjoy''.

It is a different kind of experience. You lose the intrigue of progression that is usually the most important part of MMORPGs and instead get freedom instead of it. The freedom to work towards your own goals in the game, goals that you usually create for yourself.

This has always been - in my opinion - the game's biggest strength but also weakness. While some might enjoy the freedom the GW2 gives you in the playing the game the way you want. Others will find it bothersome that the game seems shallow since... technically, progression isn't there. You don't grow in power. If you already have ascended gear, you have already - pretty much - completed the game and all you work for is skins and fluff.

I'm not seeing the problem here. We get an older audience and plenty of single moms.

I logged in on a couple of my characters and was looking for some sort of event notice but didn't see one. Do you need to make a new character? Is there some place you're supposed to go?
You'll notice you have two new character slots with the words BETA on them.
Clicking them, you can make beta characters to play.

Actually they say "DEMO", not beta and I did see that, but I don't want to create a "demo" character. Is that the only way to participate in the event?
    Yes.

Thanks. Well, that's a pass for me. Other than mounts it doesn't seem like I'm missing much either.
Well it's a demo to show off part of one of the new maps and mounts. If that doesn't interest you then you should pass.
Next weekend is the new specializations demo iirc.

    ..Cake..

So if I'm not missing out then why even buy it? The effort seems a little half-assed. They could have made an interesting event and let players experience a small piece of the content.
You ARE experiencing a small piece of the content.
They aren't going to spoil the story in a demo now are they?
They're also doing at least one more demo event so that you get to experience more of the content in the expansion.
They're not going to be able to cover all new content in a demo, neither should they.

    ..Cake..

What they should have done was an option for us to clone our characters to the beta. But for me it was just about a peek at the new content, I am done now until launch.

The reason they did what they did is because you wont get the story and similar things, that will be purged. I assume that would mess up things if they allowed us to use regular chars.

Yeah, that all makes sense, but it still doesn't work for me. I'll just wait until sometime later when they have a fully launched preview or a holiday sale.
Yeah, probably best to wait until the last demo weekend then, it will most likely be the most complete. Or there will certainly be a sale as you say sooner or later, if you aren't in a hurry you can wait until the price drop or until you feel you are boored with too much money.

It is possible that they let people have access to the expansion a weekend to boost sales, No one mentioned an event like that yet but it still is possible.

I don't get it whats wrong with create demo character ?
U have slots for Demo heroes , u get tons of loot = equipment , food , runes , sigils
I have 0% need for my old heroes in demo mod.

Demo characters are the best approach to something like this, because of the following reasons.

    1) They need a way to allow new players to experience this endgame content without permanently affecting their accounts.

    2) They need to ensure that all players are similarly geared for testing content balance.

    3) They need a way to ensure that the demo will not directly impact the game's economy.

    4) They want permanent unlocks of expansion rewards to occur with the expansion, not beforehand. This is important in order to preserve the expansion's early experience.

    5) It's far easier and more practical to make a secondary demo account status than it would be to roll back all mastery unlocks, skin unlocks, and other rewards that are not intended to be obtained before the release of the expansion.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the demo.  I didn't like HoT at all, so I was skeptical going in.  I didn't see anything that nudged me towards ponying up for the expansion at full price.  On sale, maybe.  Raptor was fun, but I suspect it would lose that new-car smell pretty quickly.

yep, I'm not getting burned again.  HoT was pretty terrible...I'll wait for reviews/general consensus and then pick it up on sale during BF if it seems worthy of my time/money.  That is assuming I am bored of all the games I currently enjoy...
