But there's an active SeedInvest campaign happening right now because they need money to become their own publisher. I'm confused.

It looks like MMORPG couldn't even spell publisher right. But it raises so many questions as to why you would do this with an active crowd funding thing going on or the fact they kept saying they would only get money by gamers. They got $500k from Russians and now they got more from these guys. So how much more have they gotten we don't know about from Razer and other gaming companies. But this gives them another 3-4 months to milk the whales and what not without delivering a fun game so they are happy to keep milking their backers.

This might be the next generation of clickbait with a misspelled title to get people to click & ask for a change.

This brings new meaning to the phrase "grasping at straws".

The Shroud of the Avatar game, Portalarium, their forums, the whole package and all their drama reminds me of Sea-Monkeys.  It's all wrapped up with all these promises and wonder and you buy a castle and get everything ready and then you check the bowl for life and all that's there is a couple little specs floating around and you're left feeling all wtf is this shit.

    Sea-Monkeys.  That's all this is.

They -like so many others- went to Kickstarter on the premise that they're developing an MMO title without need or want of a publisher. They do it all while all the money goes to their company without need of a publisher taking cut or intermediate control of one thing or another. Why are they now doing so, even if it is just to make regional the game to other areas of the world?

Why now? They don't have the funds to publish and market it themselves worldwide most likely.

Those poor poor European publisher guys... did not any of their employees do even some cursory research into what they were getting into?

Portalarium have probably lied to them just as they did to BlackSun,  the previously announced Russian publisher, and on their SeedInvest. Quick search doesn't pull up the figure for how many copies of the game they were expecting to sell in the East, but it was something ridiculous like 2m... the game hasn't even shifted 65k after 4 years, because it's awful and the community is terrible.

Remember too the SeedInvest claimed a mimimum 5m profit on the game, an expected 20m, and a 50m dream value... that too is nothing like the real values; Shroud has had, and wasted 18m and it's still in Development, and the physical rewards haven't even begun to be budgetted for yet.

We don't know how much Travian pays them upfront. Travian could have gotten good enough deal from a troubled company that it's worth the risk.

Calling it a "risk" is rather optimistic, I think.  Especially when there are things like the publisher's reputation on the line.

I logged in today to try giving the game another shot thinking maybe it has improved but it really hasn't changed at all in the past 8 months. There is so much stuff wrong with this game on so many levels that it's truly a miracle of the universe that it is still around.
