Injured hand - D3 Necro pet army possible?

MightyUncleanMightyUnclean Member EpicPosts: 3,531
Hey folks, I'm dealing with a hand injury that is making gaming a bit of a pain.  Still, I want to give the new Necro in D3 a try.  Is there a build for Necro where you can summon a pet army to do most of the killing and tanking for you, while you remain pretty stationary?  I seem to remember being able to do this with my Druid in D2...I think I had a bear do most of the heavy lifting.  Thanks for any advice!

Mmmmyeah somehow... I mean some of your pets only last for 6 seconds and stuff like that, and you have to command your pets what/where to attack in order to be efficient. For me, witch doctor feels more like that passive character with pet army which the D2 necro was.

Ah, OK.  Maybe Witch Doctor, then.  Do you constantly have to spam the summons buttons with Necro?

For some specs, yes. Mages last 6 seconds, revives last 15 seconds (you also need corpses for revives, but it's an area summoun). If my guess about what you're looking for is right, and I can tell you that many necro specs are pretty spammy. For a minion "summoun and forget" spec, you're looking for witch doctor with zunimassa set.

You can try a trackball mouse it helped a lot with hack slash games for me. Use only your right hand thumb and index finger  without moving your wrist.

I used a trackball back when they first came out long ago.  It was great until my thumb started having pain.  I don't recall if this was in the late 80s or Early 90s, but the thumb has never been 100% after that.

EEK! I had to have thumb surgery a few years back, something happened to squeeze the nerve and it hurt a lot  until I had that surgery. I think it was caused by too much crocheting and awkward positioning when I made a pop tab handbag.

I played a demon hunter a bit but never got very far with it. I did not realise you could play a pet build with them. The class that I got furthest with was the witch doctor,I do love that throaty voice. Thanks for the explanation.

It's so cool that you and Blue play together.

That reminds me of making chain mail back in the day!

Amazingly the hard part was asking all my friends, relatives, neighbours and even the local shops for the tabs.

It does look like chain mail.

There are builds that let you be more stationary. The pet builds themselves are not that great - as in, you can't summon a pet to do everything for you (as you can in Titan Quest).

I know Demon Hunter the most, so the two builds I can suggest are: Rapid Fire (channelled attack), with a freezing rune on the skill and a passive that does bonus damage to slowed enemies. The gameplay revolves around holding the right mouse button and directing the fire at your enemies, while being completely stationary.

The other build uses sentries, and pets. This is paradoxically more involving, as you have to keep refreshing your pets and sentries as they go down. With Rapid Fire, you can literally do nothing but hold the right mouse button.

The Wizard also has a similarly passive build with Disintegrate. The meta approach is to play this as a glass canon, relying on moving around a fair bit to avoid damage. But you could use the Wizard's amazing shielding spells and runes to make soaking up damage perfectly viable.

Also, @Torval and @blueturtle13, feel free to add me on BattleNet (Oginecka#2861) if you ever want to play! I usually play either on my own or with my sister.

OK, thanks for the DH idea!  I hadn't considered that option.

This depends on how far into the game you're looking to go.  If you're wanting to do GR80+ there is no build that doesn't require an insane amount of clicking.  But if GR50s and T12 are good enough for you, this build has just about everything automated for you:

So for starters, you're set if you want to spend a little money on peripherals.   Here are some options:

Foot pedals, these ones work extremely well if you take out the silly rubber bits under the pedal: http://www.gamingmouse.com/gaming/fragpedal/quad/

G13 game pad: has a thumb joystick and macroable keys.  what this means if you can set a single keypress to spam a button (or set of buttons) in particular orders.  Honestly a lot of builds in diablo can be simplified to 1 or 2 macro buttons that you hold down when attacking.  http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g13-advanced-gameboard

if you go with the g13 you probably want to stick to logitech so then there's the G600 mouse, all the buttons are macroable too.

If you wanted just a mouse you could look at the razor Naga.

So you can pretty much use any combo of those to get results.  I only have one hand but with various peripherals I've been able to be extremely competitive in pvp and pve even in fast paced FPS games.
