    This game kinda flew under my radar for a long time however, with the new class/races change where they are no longer locked to set races, I've been looking into this game more. I can honestly say that the more i see about this game the more hyped i get for it!

    There is a saying "complexity breeds confusion and dissatisfaction".  That is very appropriate in this context.  The more I read about this game, the more I wonder if all these options available to your character are just going to confuse people.

    It is nice to be able to individualize your character, but beyond a certain point it gets ridiculous.

    They show sketches of each race and a sample of their armor and weapon styles

    I don't give a **** about this.... just make sure there is enough to do in game  and focus your money and resources on game play please.

    This is almost at a point where you can see an actual game here. Once they launch the 24/7 test servers and start doing test campaigns, we can actually see if this game is worth buying into or not. I'm cautiously optimistic because they have shown some steady progress unlike every other one of these crowdfunded games.

    Be that as it may, it's been a long time since I have been confused. I like what I see. 



    also they've stated:

    they don't want to hand hold people's choices.

    they want you to be able to make a great or a terrible character....

    or choose what 'area' or situation you can excel at

    but if you find yourself in a situation that is not what you have built around...thats not a question of 'balance'...but more of your choices

    No offense intended, but someone who is confused by the ability to choose their class and race - a feature of almost every MMO ever - should probably be sticking to Pong.

    To be fair, the article makes mention of cultures, sub cultures, and sub sub cultures so it's very different than the typical class and race options. So at least fully read the article before dismissing his opinion. I personally look forward to this extra complexity.

    I find it sad to see people still calling for more simplicity in a genre that has become utterly infantile.

    These kinds of options used to be what defined an RPG. Maybe some people need to look for another genre and stop polluting this one with your calls for degradation.

    Love the variety, and the ability to customize my character even to the point to gimp or make him weak, also would like to see no stat skill resets in the game, if you screw up live with it or remake the character from the start.

    I'm pretty sure the explanation sounds more complicated than the reality will be, which is that you get different customization options depending on the race you chose. I think more is always better when it comes to customization.

    This game looks really fun. I hope there is long term play. That is my only concern is there will not be enough 'MMO' to keep me happy long term.
    They have some very robust designs in terms of economy, progression and balancing. It feels like they are doubling down on the social aspect - supportive combat classes, narrow crafting specialisation, guilds and large scale combat. I personally feel there will be lots of 'MMO' in there when it releases.

    I'm more worried about the moment-to-moment gameplay. The action combat still had a long way to go when I last tried it (6 months ago). There's nothing worse than action combat that feels unimpactful and unresponsive.

    Yeah, the issue is the season based design. As much as they liked to champion that, MMOs were designed around long term character and story progression. It will have to be pretty fun for them to be able to pull off essentially wiping all progress every few months. I think they'd be better off finding another way to level the playing field. Alas, their model down to the environment and story is based around the world becoming pillaged.

    In between matches you live in the Eternal Kingdoms which are never wiped. Also the character and the items you won in the campaigns aren't wiped. Unless this isn't what you mean.

    But only the world will fade. You, as a character/progression, will persist.
    You, pillage..move to another world...

    Out of curiosity, are there any plans to balance veteran player progression?

    Since skills level up with time (like in EVE), I'd imagine someone playing for 2 years will have a lot more levelled up than someone just picking up the game. The newer player will never be able to catch up, by definition.

    Is this an issue in EVE? Do veteran EVE players have a substantial advantage over someone playing for 6 months?

    Good stuff, was just about to link those images. It's not that complicated, as in... it's pretty simple.

    Not worried about balance.  You pose too many choices though character development and people will not like it because it is overly confusing.  Remember this is a pvp game, so you are immediately limiting your base to start with.   You tie in these choices with all the other choices they are previously talked about and I see immediate issues.  Just have to see how this works out in actual gameplay.

    your character training is permanent, as are the eternal kingdoms, as well as a limited amount of goods

    the developers have mentioned 'catch up' mechanics, but not in detail yet. also they are generally aiming for a shallow power curve (in both training and gear) - so you can't just mow down a horde of newbies like most MMOs. they generally say if a veteran gets jumped by 2 or so newbies who vaguely know what they are doing the veteran will be in trouble!

    That's not good. So what's the point of anything? That statement makes the learning curve rather short and the stat/skill/gear/whatever the fuck completely irrelevant. Even MOBAS aren't like that, no veteran is ever in trouble against 2 newbies whom vaguely know what they are doing.
