There is many request for someone to explain why buying a castle is not p2w. So having an castle off the bat in this zone gives no advantages? Its mostly cosmetic?

    Sucker Palace, that is.
    ^

If it has no advantage in pvp like guy above me said then it is just cosmetic like in SotA right?

Maybe they just put it up there to see if anyone bites, kinda like how sometimes people put hot dogs on their fishing lines.

Why pose a question this way essentially just damning Crowfall and comparing it to the greed level of SotA? I believe this was an attempt to start a P2W discussion while he was not in full possession of the facts to stir people up in a frenzy which it often does on this forum when these types of cash shop sales are highlighted.

Even after it was pointed out to be cosmetic the discussion just ignored it.

Right because there is no way at all paying ten grand to be king or seven grand for a castle is pay 2 win. How silly.

Maybe just maybe the pricing is a little out of hand...

It will have an impact on those who give a crap about what others have. I couldn't really care less about such things, it's how fun the game is that matters.

That said is this a funding endeavor or an actual cash-shop?

While the discussion cleared up the P2W confusion I'd have to say a $7K castle for sale cosmetic or not keeps Crowfall very much on par with SotA or COE in terms of greed level

Well I imagine because there are too many scammers. It would definitely be something I would avoid, unless your guild was 300+ members who all contributed a few bucks and they have a way to police it with a TOS or a mechanic that allows partial ownership rights and a way to deposit funds directly to the game. Not to some random guy who may or may not take that 7k and buy the building.

It's all illusion.  I doubt anyone actually paid $7,000 for the castle.  They want to suck you in on the "deals".   I did the Kickstarter with some of the money I received after selling my Pathfinder Online accounts.  I think it was $240 or so for the Amber package.  (Keep in mind if this were not magical money from pathfinder I wouldn't even have consider that).  The package came with a boatload of crap including an extra copy of the Collectors Edition of the game, 5 years sub (plus a bunch more I think as kickstarter bonuses), guild naming rights, special crest colors etc... and all these pixel land parcels plus like a fort or something.

They have "sales" where you can actually sell the stuff back to them.  You could also convert 12 months of VIP to a 1 year block.. at a savings.   So I think I sold back some useless items and a bunch of VIP time (I still have over 3 years.. and thats probably 2.5 years too many) for store credit.  I then used that credit to buy pixel castles.

I think my end result was 2 small castles, 1 large keep and 3 forts of various sizes, a few cottages plus lots of land parcels.  If I add up the "value" of those castles, keep and forts It's about $5,000

Keep in mind that I still have about $600 in VIP subs... plus a boxed collectors edition which they are trying to sell for $180 now... plus more pixel crap than I can keep track of...

I haven't spent any more than by initial KS package (I think it was $240).

Al those values listed are fake IMHO... just to make people think they got some great deals.

Well, for some that's a night out in Vegas and drinks with friends, so I guess if they get a digitally tangible item then so be it. Not where I would put my money, but to each his own I guess.

If it were purely cosmetic, I'd agree.  However, this appears to give players the ability to buy an instant, significant PvP advantage over other players who can't afford it.  Without getting into a huge debate about the spirit of fair competition, this appears to be markedly pay to win.  Again, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so, after reading the item description.
I would say your a little off with that. From what I understand you can build this stuff but i could be wrong. Also how does this give an advantage when its a building that can be destroyed like any other? I think this more so for space to run your kingdom and to have a cool place to hang out duno i could be wrong.

I'm against p2w like most people.  However, if you drop 7k... you can have a few benefits.  It's not like it's gonna unbalance things for everyone.  It's only 1 person.

Crowfall has a really interesting "campaign" design. Every player has access to their own private instance - pretty much a glorified version of housing. These instances only grow the most basic of resources, so they are meant to serve as crafting/socialising hubs.
All of the houses people buy with real money are for this private instance only.

Next to that, you have campaign worlds, which is where all the PvE / PvP happens. Joining this world will pretty much make you start fresh - you can only bring so much with you. I believe these PvP worlds will have the same housing system, with the exception that it doesn't allow any microtransaction purchases of any kind. The idea is that people start from scratch and build up their own castles with the resources they collect. This has been a core design element and I don't see them changing this. At the end of the campaign, you take the loot from the campaign world and export it into your home instance.

I am guessing it will not be trivial to obtain the resources you need to get a house in game, let alone something equivalent to the $7000 castle. With that said, since it's for a private instance only, it should not impact on the gameplay what so ever. If there is any gameplay benefit, it will be easy access to low-tier resources, I assume that is somewhat negligible, as even venturing into the safest campaign world will yield better drops.

If there is any P2W in Crowfall, it will be in the subscription packages. I'm not sure they fully decided on how those will work. I know at some point, a subscription would allow you to train 3 skills at the same time instead of one. Since it's a subscription though, it will have a clear cap (it's not like someone can spend 7000$ on a subscription and train 700 skills at once).

even the subscription only applies to class skills. basically allows you to three 3 classes instead of 1, but your still limited to one class at a time while playing(basically your training 3 different characters at once). so non subs will only be able to have 1 character...... basically only being limited in variety. so it shouldn't effect pvp

only 1 general/gathering/crafting skill can be trained at a time regardless of subscription status......at least this is how it works on the alpha
