One hour and 30 minutes and all hell will break lose on the internet.

I am so glad I didn't pre-order. The more gameplay videos I have seen today, the sicker I get in my stomach of what has become of the once fantastic ME franchise. :anguished:

I thought that just the old lead writer had left, but apparently they have lost them all, replaced them by college students or something?

And what happened to their senior animation artists? The more gameplay videos I see.... after ME 1, 2 and 3.... I just can't believe this is made by the same studio. :anguished:

How the hell did this manage to get gold status and release in this state?

All i see is cry about graphical bugs but what about game itself. They changed game so much from first one that its hardly same game anymore.

The animation thing is understandable - but why are we OK with Fallout 4 and Dragon Age's same issue and suddenly it's a problem with MEA?

It might be alternative facts messing with my head but I remember it was a big gripe with Fallout 4; that the graphics were a huge complaint followed with the game physics being funky at times. Idk why ppl say "everyone was alright with Fallout 4" graphics in this day, because it was never the case.

    https://gamerant.com/bethesda-fallout-4-graphics-complaints-114/

    http://www.gamespresso.com/2015/06/were-not-really-complaining-about-fallout-4s-graphics-are-we/

...you know what just google it and yeah, it was ALWAYS A FRIGGIN WITH TONS OF PPL! Even with the Witcher when it released ppl were hoping for a better engine to be utilized. The biggest counter-argument was the whole "graphics vs game hours playable" argument that was honestly valid; Dragon's Age, Fallout and The Witcher went to the side of "we're not graphically beautiful but you get so much content and playtime than you would with any Ubisoft game really. I still think Andromeda is going to be a great game but I think the animation will hurt it for GoTY contender with Horizon Zero Dawn and Zelda: Breath of the Wild being rare games where graphics, immersion strong storylines and development will make a case for themselves above Andromeda. I'll officially call it on Horizon because of its lack of lineage and history versus Zelda.

I think this review tells it all (at least for me). I'll wait for a $20 sale or 2nd hand copy for PS4 (which should not take too long...)

Great review! More people should watch.
Certainly the best review I have seen yet.  I see a common thread in many reviews besides the graphics, it's the story and characters.  Just not as strong in this one.   My biggest fear was that they put to much focus on overhauling game play at the determent of something else and in this case I think it may be what bioware games are known for, characters and story.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

The game is just fine. The only thing that shows itself sub-par is indeed the animations, especially within the faces, if they raise the quality bar on the rest of the game they should have noticed how this animation moments wouldn't just fly by.

    Something to play \o/

I posted this in the other news thread for this game, but didn't see this till I already posted. But it fits here as well (and kinda better)...so here is a copy/paste from that

The new mass effect is awesome, despite the hate. It has a lot of modern day advancements in it. You can be a dark skinned character, gay/lesbian etc. A lot of RPGs still haven't caught up with the time. Like Witcher 3 is the most racist game I ever played, but thats another topic. In any case, the new Mass Effect also...the story is awesome and such an awesome world(s) to explore. I'm super excited for release. I always loved the new Bioware when they advanced gaming with the new society of the western world.

It does have voice acting (english only, other languages sound better) problems though and animations are like watching twilight zone. But I have to and will always support Bioware, if they don't go back to the dark ages of society.

Other games that are really good if you don't want sci-fi is another Bioware game. Dark Ages Inquisition is amazing, and very beautiful too. If you like MMOs but hate the multiplayer aspect of MMOs, DA:I is perfect. It has amazing voice acting, and great animation. Character models not as good as the new mass effect though.

Also, (as an addition to this post)...being able to drive on planets is awesome! I loved that in Mass Effect 1, I thought that was awesome. And Mass Effect Andromeda has an even better "world" to explore than even DA:I...so I'm super excited for the actual release :D Just to explore if anything else.

It is also pretty hilarious that there is actually someone trying to say MMORPG got paid for this review. Give me a break. You can't tell someone that they got paid for an opinion and then say THEY have to prove that they did not get paid after YOU accused them of it. That is not how the world works. That is essentially the same as walking in front of someone, punching yourself in the face, and then claiming that the person you walked in front of did it. Then telling them they have to prove that they did not do it.

To the point of the current discussion: no offense to any of the staff here at MMORPG.com (or any other review site, for that matter)...  But I always deduct 1.5-2 points from the average critic score to determine what I feel is the most accurate assessment of a product.

I get that reviewers are in a precarious situation.  I don't fault them for doing the best with the situation, but I don't take their reviews in without considering that context, either.

I have no idea why is there so much hate for Bioware, is it just because they are with EA now? Because honestly all of their games were great, no exceptions. Even the latest DA:Inqusition, which was heavily hated on the internet won quite a lot of GOTY awards.

It seems to be quite fashionable to be hating on BioWare and Blizzard, among others. Any time the companies in question release a new update / DLC / expansion / game the cycle of hate starts anew. Sadly, unlike Reapers, it takes far less than 50,000 years to re-occur.

    Iselin said:

And yes, the facial animations and especially the eyes are occasionally off but it isn't the huge deal some are making it out to be.

I agree with every word. I suppose I would have understood the huge hype people have over animations if previous BioWare games were known to have an amazing quality of them, and Andromeda was a huge let down in that department. But that obviously is not the case.

I think its because WestWood, actually made C&C Great Games, then EA took over, and EA made the new series of C&C complete crap I absolutely hated the new versions of C&C but I liked the Older Versions like the Original Red Alert 1, and 2 were okay, but after EA got it it started going down-hill...

Bioware also makes the crappy decision to stick Denuvo DRM in their games which makes me only want to pirate their games, because I am not going to pay for anything sticking DRM onto my games which I legally purchased completely screwing over my ability to control my system, or remove the DRM completely after removing the game...

This are the reasons why I can think people really are starting to hate Bioware, Oh and Dragon Age 2 and above flat out sucked, I liked the Original Dragon Age, but I didn't like Dragon Age 2, nor did I bother to buy Dragon Age Inquisition, because of the Denuvo DRM, but the game was great the Original that is every series after became the Generic Crap for a game waste of development funds, if they had made the Original Story better and added on to it properly it would have been great.

Don't settle for mediocrity like in ME:A. Bioware is obviously trying to just sell a rushed project based solely on the Mass Effect label like the Call of Duty franchise does.

All this aside, I'm surprised this comment section hasn't been locked yet with all the swearing the staff has been posting, lol.

What?  Are you saying you can't create a white character in MEA?
That is correct...They "might" patch it later to allow you to.

    http://www.oneangrygamer.net/2017/03/mass-effect-andromeda-patch-might-allow-gamers-to-make-white-people/26336/
That's strange, because the character created by this Forbes contributor looks to be a pretty standard white guy, save for the crazy hair and makeup effects. That was literally me googling "mass effect andromeda character creator" and, ironically, picking an article that's theme is criticizing the character creator as a step backwards for the series. However, he makes no mention of not being able to create a fair-skinned or "white" looking character (or any other ethnicity or race, for that matter).

I find it interesting you choose to highlight the Witcher being "racist" when one of Mass Effects main developers is a full fledge racist who is perfectly fine saying how much he hates white people... It's also interesting that you can't create a custom toon using white pigment.

Yeah it's horseshit. The default male character is about as white as one can be and the custom characters can also be very white.

I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time following your reasoning about the review: The review states it's opinion - "Good, it's their review you don't have to agree or disagree, it's their opinion, move along" someone says that disagrees with the review and don't like the game "Buh-huh hater get out of here *spams LOL button*".

Don't you guys see your own hypocrisy?

Let the review voice it's opinion and let people who disagree voice theirs. Stop this fight pro v against. It is disrespectful to the review itself and the hard work put on it to create a healthy discussion.

The animations are a problem yes. And it doesn't matter if it is 4 seconds of a bazillion hours game. The weight of such problem may vary, but all of them are valid since all of them are someones opinion that must be respected, right?!

So if for some the animations are not a problem, good for your - I envy you, no sarcasm intended. But I can't experience story telling focusing on character development when the characters are twitching like some weird robot from kids pizza dinner place.

And, addressing your argument: We were not the ones who chose to make the game based on character focused development with that camera angle. They did. So, please, stop this blunt and shallow attempt to dismiss valid criticism by saying graphics don't make a good RPG. We are not talking about graphics capabilities (which are unquestionable awesome, look at those skin textures!) - we are talking about aesthetics and mood overall harmony. There are games like Goat Simulator that bet on broken animations and bad assets for its mood (sorry for the blunt example) but it is clear that this is not the case here.

If "the graphics werent that important anyway" then they could just save a lot of trouble turning it into a text based RPG game. I, me, myself, wouldn't mind - but that's not the case: That's not what they aimed for.
Agreed. Graphics don't matter, that's why EAWare released a video of the game in 4K to show off how awesome they think it looks.

"But I can't experience story telling focusing on character development when the characters are twitching like some weird robot from kids pizza dinner place."

Yeah, looks like Five Nights at Freddy's or something. Wait...

"Many npc's have heart felt stories to tell" seriously?I might have only watched 15 minutes a time over a few streamers but i kept switching for a reason,it was really boring to watch.

I found every single CS i watched on Twitch was making me fidget, like i was hoping, praying the streamer would please just fast forward the chat if possible,it was that bad and that boring.

So i go to a different user as i couldn't take the boredom anymore and same thing however i did notice oen streamer was not so impressed the crappy cs's either.Part of the problem was i saw CS's that were zoomed right in close, like basically just a couple faces,it ruins immersion and looks cheap.

Then i switch to a different user and that user really bored me to oblivion,he was literally taking forever 15 minutes to decide what weapon to load and i left,he would have taken another 15 for sure.

So yeah overall i saw about 5 streamers and i saw nothing that even remotely got me excited. The low rating on Twitch also says others see it as i do.Now obviously some games are more fun to watch and some more fun to play ,i get it,but as i said,i saw nothing that made me want to play.

At least it is not console locked like Horizon Zero Dawn.  If you can't write your game for the PC, that just makes it second rate from the start.

I don't know reading this comments the MMORPG.com staff that are posting are coming off as incredibly bias in their endless defense, and deflection of this game. I hope the countless CONSUMERS are wrong, and the staff here are right. I been hyped for ME:A for a while, i've not yet purchased it, and the reviews/criticism isn't really swaying me. The biggest thing that is influence my reservations right now is the Staff's behavior regarding this game. Their defense, and deflection points seem hallow, and unconvincing this is leading me to worry that not only is the negative reviews possibly right, but that people are forcing a smile, and pretending to love it because it's a AAA title that's been long awaited, and it's doom implies a possible end of the franchise. Which after the ME3 ending fiasco, is long over due. I want to like this game, and will at some point pick it up, but man this review, and series of defensive comments are concerning, deeply.

You know this statement is beyond ridiculous right? They've got an agreement to develop for Sony, it is not as if they are incapable to program for other another platform. I'd even go one step further and challenge you to find a developer that can create a game looking that advanced on a 250 dollar pc while maintaining that stability.

You might be annoyed you are missing out on the game but if Guerilla games is one thing it is absolute technical wizards with what they create, 99% of developers should take note with how much they can push hardware far beyond what others are capable of..

Ohh, and I don't care one bit for Horizon or the new Mass Effect in case you were wondering.

Why would the staff's opinions sway you one way or another about a game you otherwise would be hyped about? They're simply hobbyists with their own opinions like anyone else who visits here.. Like anyone else here they have every right to defend their positions, as well as defend their reviews. That's all that has happened in this thread. They also have every right to not be beholden to others opinion about what is important to the enjoyment of a game, like some awkward animations.

I haven't seen many actual negative reviews of this game most are from 7-8's/10 or something similar (that's not negative....,MMORPG.com simply didn't detract as many points as others for the animation issues, which IMO have been drastically overstated, especially in the videos highlighting them... Like the video floating around in this thread, while some faces look a bit awkward, they're not as bad as it's being made out to be, like it's some game breaking issue..

Mass Effect has long been one of my favourite series of games, even ME3, despite everything, i ended up getting, though it was a dissapointing game for me, i was really hoping that Andromeda would be a return to form, but from everything i have seen so far, this just wasn't the case, the game is not up to spec, the quality of the animations, the character 'choices' and the skills system the weapons, to name just a few things, the game is a train wreck, for me, i am just going to try and pretend that ME:Andromeda doesn't exist, and hope that some time in the future, we will get a game that is truly worthy of being called Mass Effect 4. :o
