"...

I would love to know why DirectX and Vulkan are still an option for multiplatform games?
When SC is ready to be ported over to Linux would it not be easier if you would already use Vulkan on Windows and do not even bother implementing DirectX 12.
You would not spent resources fixing or implementing DX rendering stuff.

"Hi hyper159,

Years ago we stated our intention to support DX12, but since the introduction of Vulkan which has the same feature set and performance advantages this seemed a much more logical rendering API to use as it doesn't force our users to upgrade to Windows 10 and opens the door for a single graphics API that could be used on all Windows 7, 8, 10 & Linux. As a result our current intention is to only support Vulkan and eventually drop support for DX11 as this shouldn't effect any of our backers. DX12 would only be considered if we found it gave us a specific and substantial advantage over Vulkan. The API's really aren't that different though, 95% of the work for these APIs is to change the paradigm of the rendering pipeline, which is the same for both APIs. " "

Lots of people I know still using Windows 7 ... they will like that.

Have fun

That's a smart plan, Vulkan is very similar to DX12, and far more compatible, going up to Linux.

Then it allows them to drop DX11 as well as Vulkan can replace it. Otherwise, they would have to maintain DX11 together with DX12.

You know that changes on an industry like this come always at snail speed. Like games releasing under DX9 after DX11 was there. DX12 has the same slow adoption.

It's mostly because DX12 does not open doors side of Windows 10

Probably just an excuse not to optimise...

In game development Full On Optimization is done when all the systems and assets are in place, not before.

Awesome news!  DX12 and MS by default can suck it......!

I think it is a smart plan to NOT force everyone into Windows10 that want DX12 features.  But if you want to try and gleam something negative out of anything relating to SC then you can have your....oh wait moment.

Which is all well and good BUT what is the minimum CPU spec going to be? Does it mean they are going to support CPUs that doesn't require an upgrade to Windows 10?

Also as there is some confusion by some that think multi gpu support would require w10, it's not true.
