Diadem’s back! The exploratory missions initially introduced in Patch 3.1 — and then temporarily nyxed in 3.5 — have made a return to the game, bringing with them new content and some familiar problems.

It really was dumb to offer 280 weapons at all, especially given that the armor in there is 265. They could've offered 265 weapons as well which would hold people over until scriptures become uncapped potentially in 3.6. But then again, going back to my previous point, it would've just been forgotten about when 3.6 landed and uncapped scriptures. That being said, the revamp is not so much a revamp as it is just a more focused way of doing diadem versus the old way of people just picking a spot and killing stuff for a hour till kick out. And what better way to do that other than F.A.T.E.s....yay....
*The original Diadem was little short of a dumpster fire, and I was glad to see it gone. That the 'revamped' Diadem is only marginally better is disappointing, but the fact that they even thought it was OK** to bribe people into doing it with the chance at the best weapons in the game (instead of, you know, making it actually fun and relevant in other ways) does not speak well of their design decisions.
**The answer Yoshi-P gave at PAX East to address the 280 weapons is wholly inadequate; not only is it factually wrong, as the weapon damage difference between i275 and i280 more than makes up for any less than perfect secondary stats, but time will not fix this issue. Not only does the very existence of these weapons discourage putting effort into the current Anima / Raid / or i270 weapons (which aren't even out yet!), who knows when or how many times they will do this again in the future... feel like doing the SB Relic? Don't bother, just wait for 4.55 and get lucky.
Who cares? It's for people who wants the best of the best. I don't do Savage, I just do the regular content and they'll eventually release the high level equipment eventually anyways
The last part of my quote is why I care. I don't do savage or speed-runs or anything like that either, so it doesn't really affect my gameplay directly, but if they start thinking this sort of thing is OK (because, 'Who cares?'), then you can all but guarantee they are going to do it again... e.g. what happens next time they can't figure out how to design something that is actually fun? Do they stop and take the time to put some thought into it? Or just push it out anyway and stick some BiS lottery gear in there to drive up participation? Because, hey, it worked last time and nobody cared.
Also, while it doesn't affect my gameplay directly, it has certainly diminished my enjoyment of the game, and sense of achievement in finally completing my Anima weapon after months of effort... just days before it became 2nd best to something someone got in less than an hour. So yeah, if BiS lottery gear is going to be a part of the future of FFXIV then I don't want to be.
Edit: Also, FYI, Anima WAS supposed to be 'the best of the best', which is half the reason most people, including myself, pushed though the insane grinds. If I had known a better weapon would be released within days of the Anima being complete, I would not have bothered, or would have at least waited until the grinds got completely nerfed.
