For me they tried to go with some realism in the way the characters look and made the edges soft and have a grainy appearance.  I do not like the grainy appearance myself.  When the game is moving it doesn't look great at all to me.  This is a personal opinion, some may like it but others do not.  I am one of those that do not.  ESO looks better than BDO for me personally.

Wow.  If you think BDO's graphics are "The graphics, to me,are disgraceful" then you might want to look for another hobby.  While BDO graphics are not revolutionary, they are certainly in the top tier of current MMO's.

Perhaps you should look into becoming a rosarian.  Lots of vivid colors and detail in that hobby.

And you think WoW are realistic?
    LOL

wait, what?  I don't like WoW graphics.  they are even more cartoony than BDO.
I get the feeling that anything that is not photorealistic is considered to be cartoony to you, is this correct?

geez, don't get upset... it was just an opinion.  i find BDO kinda cartoony.  i run it in 2k graphics.  its not as cartoony as WoW and GW2, but still a little cartoony.  i didn't say the graphics are bad, just that i find it cartoony... no biggie.  ohhh-pin-yunnn

While it's fine to, obviously, have your own opinion, what "isn't" cartoony to you?

to me, my opinion, EVE doesn't seem cartoony, ESO doesn't seem cartoony, LOTRO doesn't seem cartoony, Rift didn't seem cartoony... as examples... just my opinion.

    Sz  :)

Not sure why LOTRO looks non cartoony to you and BDO does? To each their own ;)

Never played BDO but I can say the LOTRO's strong point is not its characters.  Landscape I would put up against any game.

I like the graphics and art style in the game. I didn't like a few of the effects and popping, but it wasn't that big of a deal. It's not why I don't play the game. I don't play because it's the kind of game that wants a monogamous relationship with the player. I'm not that kind of gamer right now.
It doesn't have to be monogamous, you're the boss, make your boundaries known. Unless you're wanting to PvP then ya you have to embrace the ball and chain.
It's not about boundaries, control, or anything like that. I would need to spend that amount of time and dedication to enjoy the node building, crafting, housing, and the rest of pve systems. I've played a couple betas and then a trial. It's not a game I could enjoy very casually.
I was just playing with ya, I know BDO is to awesome to play casually.

I can see someone not liking the art style, but the graphics? For an MMO the BDO graphics are top notch.

has there been any solution for the flickering and shimmering of textures when you move? it feels like everything is swirling around you no matter how much AA you apply via nVidia control panel...

As a few have commented here.  Stand still, strike a pose, and all is good.  Start to move and it's one big mess.  I suspect that they have pushed the graphics engine way beyond it's capability's.  That would be why it feels on the verge of collapse.

I like to think on BDO as a top quality coin-op. At least that's what the combat looks like. It's fun, don't know for how much longer though...

I think you forgot to take off the reduced texture thing, I forgot the setting, but it runs it at half the resolution to make it work on old computers. I had BDO working on a tablet, with that on. I am downloading it now, and am gonna play at 4k, I bet you it doesnt look like garbage.

I love LOTRO graphics and I agree they are beautiful for how old the game is and its still good in today's standards. However, in response to the OP, I have to say, you have a unique way of trolling.

    You need a new PC.

I do not have the game maxed and mine looks much better.

Seeing this screenshot of yours explains to me why some people call this game cartoony. Though, I don't know if thats the proper word for it. Its certainly stylized and vivid. You can contrast that to an old screenshot I pulled off my computer:

I think I could definitely call your character "cartoony", though I don't know if I could call Valtand there "cartoony"? I dunno.

Keep in mind you can eliminate that "vivid" coloring. Heck you can make it black and white. And I think two styles of black and white if memory serves. I don't use that vivid color, don't like it. I use the "filmic" filter.

Interesting. I had no idea there were other filters. Were they built in to the system, or was it a "mod" so to speak? I mean, there is nothing wrong with stylized and vivid pictures, but it might explain why some people see the game as cartoony.

The filters have always been there... since NA launch anyway.

Guess I never went looking for them. I was so enamored with exploring the world. Shame the gameplay ended up ruining it for me.
