Steam need to make this message bigger (just above the buy options).  Not having a go at you OP; just peoples expectations with EA games.

This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.
It does say that. People are just fools.

EA should only be used by Indie projects. People are much less forgiving, plus players looking for top quality shy away from Indie games. A game studio like Funcom is going to get shredded trying to use something designed for Indies.

Here's a novel idea: Instead of charging people full price for an unfinished beta status game, developers should let people test it for free. Disable official reviews during the test period and give the testers a direct channel of communication to give feedback to the developers. Then after the testing period is over and all the kinks have been ironed out, you give all of the testers a complimentary copy of the game and a big thanks. Then you start charging full price when the game is in a complete state. This whole trend of charging people to test an "early access" game, when it used to be the opposite, is just ridiculous.

I played the game solo for around four hours this morning to learn the ropes and it was rock solid. I didn't notice a single bug and gameplay was smooth. Then I decided to try a multiplayer server and had no luck at all. Either I couldn't log on, or got DC'd before even finishing character creation. Reading the Steam forums, I saw there were widespread problems with multiplayer and that Funcom were working on a patch, so just left it and found other things to do. Apparently it's still not fixed, so I'll just leave it until tomorrow. No big deal. However, the howls of rage from some of the would be players in the forums shows they just have no clue of the concept of an early access title. I think it's ridiculous that anyone would think of wrting a meaningful review on day one of an incomplete game.
But i guess it's totally not ridiculous if people write positive reviews on steam on day one of an incomplete game?
I'd say we have to accept both ways. You paid for something, you write your opinion and what you think you got for your money's worth. Be it positive or negative.
I agree, people can only review what is actually presented in the game, that's the double-edged sword of EA: you get cash early, but also get evaluated on what you have produced. Basing reviews on what the game "might" be like when all the issues are fixed is actually quite dishonest imo.

Unfortunately, some people obviously feel its a stupid idea to test games for free when they have "disposable income" to spend which has no impact on others as to how they use it. A fool as his money....

People should never take Steam reviews seriously.

Anyway, to anyone playing it right now, did Funcom add gamepad support already? One of the community managers said it will have support. Looking forward to that, and full launch.

Well to make a note of reviews and such ,i watched a female streamer with the title "I love this game".

So i watched and guess what lol,the ONLY thing she was doing is building her home...sigh zzzzzzz. How can you seriously say you love a game when your only doing one thing and that one thing can be done in pretty much 99.9% of all survival games.

So i guess my point is that a serious gamer, looking for a good quality GAME will rate it very low. Then the thousands of people that think pressing a key to collect sticks or rocks is FUN,they will be all over the 10/10.Simply put,a LOT of people out there seem to have  very low expectations from games and are ok with that and that is how you get over rated games.
Hey bud you don't speak for anyone but yourself to make a comment like "serious gamers, looking for quality game will rate it very low" it about as ignorant as it comes.  It's incredible people think because I think this way every else does....sorry bud welcome to the real world where it doesn't work like that.

Hehe may as well have said "Funcom game launches with mixed reviews" or "in unfinished state" or "never leaves alpha."  Um...yep :)

I played a few hours of multiplayer after they reduced max players per server to 40. There was a little rubberbanding when running into mobs or strafing. Overall though it's playable. I can still enjoy the game so I wouldn't give it a bad review since a few quirks are expected from an EA game. From the actual game and not the bugs I'd give it a 7/10.

Bought into it because it wasn't some small, 1 person basement studio. Should've known better considering I've seen Funcom around since Anarchy Online's disastrous release.

I try to avoid EA titles until I see enough game play to convince me they're worthwhile. 7 Days to Die, Empyrion, Avorion, Project Zomboid, Rimworld, Prison Architect... all really good EA games whether they made/make it to full release or not. Still got more than my money's worth out of them all. Not so much with Conan Exiles.

Red flags should have gone off when a larger studio decided to go Early Access on Steam. Funcom should have the ability to launch their own alpha and beta tests on games with the fan base and marketing they already have.

The game itself is better served as a true MMORPG with commercial grade servers designed to hold large capacities. With game play elements that allow for some type of meaningful and consequential interactions between players. Instead, the game is either small servers full of people barely interacting with others, or beating each other to death with wooden clubs.

Then there's the horrid in-game voice chat. Seriously, an MMO needs to limit that crap to Discord or a 3rd party program. Hearing a bunch of stoners or drunk 20-something year old college students in the Conan universe is completely immersion-breaking and distracting. It waters down the entire game and makes it feel like some cheap, long, drawn out version of Team Fortress 2.

This would break it for me. There is forced voice communication in this? Or is this an optional thing? I hate hearing people talk in games, its the most immersion thing to come to gaming experience possible. I don't even like to hear people talk in MMOs.

And the MMOs that force you to use it (for raids or PvP), I say I'm deaf and can't hear anyone and hearing aids don't work for me. I know that might be wrong to people who are truly deaf, but its literally the only thing one can say if they don't want to be forced to use voice chat in a game.

You can turn that off ( mute the voice chat volume) there is in game txt chat if you prefer that route.

awesome! :D That is good. The poster I quoted made it sound like it was a forced thing that couldn't be turned off.

Agreed I hate most voice chat. Being forced would be a deal breaker for me as well.

Or game developers should know better by now. Launching an unfinished game too early, even with the tile of "early access", will no longer fly with players. "Early Access" is simply charging players to beta test, with no refund if the game is never finished.
Its more so the consumer should know better. There a business there making money doing what there supposed to be doing. I bought CE, i like it, i know theres issues, i chose to buy it, funcom didnt make me. I Have no issues with EA, i have bought afew in the past some work out some dont. However i put the time into looking into the game before purchase. I really dont think this game is just going to die, i like how people on here can predict the future, time will tell. However im enjoying myself because i knew what i was buying. No one to blame but oneself if they waited past the 2 hour mark to get there money back if they were that dissapointed.

And What game has never had server issues during any launch EA or otherwise......... But it does need fixin

    Human nature prevails !

No matter how large or wordy the disclaimers are regarding Early Access, people will just ignore them and go with their pre-conceptions, i.e. "I paid $39, so the game must be release quality, this EA tag is just some marketing BS so that the devs can dodge criticism..."

Players will never accept responsibility for their own impatience and impulse purchases.

Bring back proper Beta's, people apply and then get picked out of a pool with a solid Nda.

You would think these devs would of learned by now. Say what you want about SnailGames  /DNL but they are right to delay EA.

    ROFL!!!!

As Grimwrath The Unforgiving wanders around naked in the burning plains trying to not get eaten alive, his tired eyes suddenly catch the flickering silhouette of what could be another lost soul sharing the same fate in the desert.

Grimwrath lowers his axe and slowly waves his hand as a friendly sign. He carefully approaches the unknown stranger, to see that he goes by the name.....XxBongMastaxX.

XxBongMastaxX greets back over voice chat:
"Duuude! He he....i'm like... so high right now! L O L!! This is like...awesome! Look at me totally wacking this bush over here! WTF! He he he".

Grimwrath The Unforgiving starts smashing XxBongMastaxX's face with his axe, whose only defensive reaction is "dude!! chill out man!! WTF!! LOL!"

Does anyone else have the feeling that AOC is about a million times better than this game? I know its a different genre and all, but I'm just not getting the "Conan" vibe from the video playthroughs I see.

If the game launches at a state where there are no more server wipes, then I consider it to be live and it deserves to reviewed as such. "Early access" is basically just a head start here.

Don't confuse this with an alpha or beta test where your mission is to test game features, and your progress is wiped before the game launches.

The game looks like Age of Conan with TSW's animation (stiff AF) in DayZ survival setting.
Folks need to stop throwing money @ Funcom's mmo. They aren't just very good at making them.

"Early Access" - just an excuse to release a crappy half baked game and take the impatient gamers money.

Fumcom are sorta "pro" at this, being one of the early pioneers with a long history of this behavior

They must be reveling in the current player base which will pay full price and then willingly excuse the behavior.

Maybe for a 6 person indie studio, but never a larger player in the market, we should expect better.

An Early Access game should be a complete functional game almost fully polished, not an Alpha version of the game.
As I said in another thread, selling Alpha games with the Early Access label should be illegal, and probably already is.

I don't do EA games, pre-orders, or fund me type games.  I don't give a $... if a company puts a disclaimer on their game saying it many be a pile a trash, buy at your own risk.  If you charge for an unfinished product, then your going to get a review like it's finished.  If you don't want those type of reviews, don't give access to the game until it's done.

What happened to closed alpha/beta testers where you used to be required to fill out a form and then possibly an interview with one of the devs?  Then you got access (for free) to help test what they wanted you to test and for the most part, games came out with fewer bugs than they do now.  Instead, they charge you to play the game early and the studio hides behind the, "but it's not done yet" statement.  It's just a way for the studio to get money early on the game.

The state of gaming today is bad on all levels and the ignorance of it's player base is a big part of the problem.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

    That's what is all about.
If you decide to charge for an unfinished product the least a Company can do it's to expect harsh reviews.
No one gives a damn about their poor excuses.
If the game is in such bad shape, leave it in closed Alpha until is ready for the public otherwise just take the EA money and shut up, and stop crying rivers of tears over well deserved bad reviews.
