I enjoyed Final Fantasy the most and I choose that game because their updates are great and I simply love the franchise. I do however lament the fact that I am unable to keep up as I stopped playing and playing a healer I am forced to pay a lot of attention and sometimes I find it a little too hard when I am tired. Old age is catching up. I look at the updates and salivate as the possibility of doing all those dungeons and quests and since I am now playing single player RPGs I have sort of become a little rusty and fear going back to the fast pace of combat especially in pugs.

Having said that however it is still one of the better games for group content.

The only way ESO is getting all these votes is if its being done by new players. One Tamriel is a smack in the face to those at max lvl and wanting progression. Game starts off amazing and never truly caters to end game content. If u wanna just level a bunch of alts, then this game is for you. I like to identify with only one character in a game, adding to my personal rp experience. I find the excitement in exploring new places, conquering tough endgame content, and getting that sought after loot. ESO is none of this...sadly. As I had huge hopes for this one. IMO, WoW, Rift, and FFXIV, have all done an amazing job of keeping the content moving in a forward direction, and catering to their loyal players. Bethesda seems to just wanna add new subs w no regard of the ones already playing

I think LotRO did something amazing this past year. It managed to divorce themselves from Turbine, find a new publisher and intrigue the fans with some good news about their future. Now, if they can avoid the ire of TE and retain their IP license past November, they will have really accomplished something, maybe even worthy of another vote in next years poll. Despite the bleakness the association with Warner and Turbine had cast on this game, there may finally be some glimmer of hope for this game.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Wrong poll, the best new MMO(RPG) of 2016 was already handed to BDO. This poll focuses on the best MMO(RPG) overall.

ESO is winning this poll for the 3rd time straight. Not just winning, but absolutely dominating. So obviously ZOS must be doing a lot of things better than the competition. This is not just the new players voting, but also the "veteran" ones. For the huge majority "One Tamriel" update is like the best thing to ever happen to ESO. Personally I don't care that much about it, however I can see why it was so extremely well received.

Oh and everything in ESO can be achieved on just 1 character. If anything, ESO is probably the best MMO to play if you don't want to create alts. With that said, Champion system is also perfect for alts.

No matter how you look at it, overall ESO is an exceptionally high quality MMO in pretty much every aspect. That can't be said about any other MMO at the moment.

Best overall MMO in 2014 was Marvel Heroes voted in January 2015. Then in 2015  it was ESO. Here is the link josko9 so it cannot be three years in a row.

Calling Marvel Heroes a MMO shows 2014 must have been the year of delusional results.

Well if you look at the 2015 choices there were Skyforge and Devilian listed. I can see where you're coming from .

Going to be the WoW fan here, only reason is that I haven't played since BC and there is so much content to explore and do now in the game. There have been many changes since BC so it looks like I got a lot of catching up to do. If I wasn't drawn in WoW, I would definitely go with ESO then SWTOR hands down.

ESO has definitely made huge improvements from when it started. The game was quite poor in the beginning but now it is quite the gem with all the improvements over the years.

Having said that there are also other games like SWTOR and FFXIV that are also very good games which you can have fun in. It would be also be good to give a nod to Asheron's Call for old times sake.

Though I played and enjoyed ESO the most in the past 12 months (with on and off breaks), I am not sure how much to call it MMO if you critisize other games for being too solo-friendly. I am playing ESO deliberatly on PS4 and not PC, and there I haven't played in a group - ever? Not that is simply with the limited chat, but still. And yes, sure, I thus didn't do any of the group dungeons or pvp, but I maxed leveled (not Veteran) and still have stuff to do.
So for a solo game it is awesome. Just like SWTOR is much simpler nowadays allowing you to just enjoy the story.
Doesn't mean ESO it isn't an MMO, just as SWTOR is(n't) one...
[just mentioning this with regards to people complaining that some games on the list are(n't) MMOs per se (anymore)].

That poll was irrelevant as nearly nobody voted on it. And do you know why?

Because a month earlier there was a Great MMO Face-off, in which ESO beat Lotro in the final for the MMO of the year award. Go look it up.

So yeah it is indeed 3 years in a row. The only thing that changed is the gap between ESO and the others.

Other - Stronghold Kingdoms. Fairly unique MMO I have played over the years. Not perfect, but addictive and fairly well balanced PvP system.

I only played one thing on that list (world of Warcraft). Not going to bother voting as nothing listed is worth voting for.

Update: Changed my mind and voted for legion. Still not all that thrilled with it though.

GW2, really continue to enjoy it. WoW Legion's dynamic events were great along with Demon Hunter. OK for 30 days but not worth subbing. ESO did some nice things and have really progressed but I can feel when a game puts money ahead of the fun factor. SWTOR, nice story line but turning into a one trick pony.

I had to go SWTOR, maybe Lotro second and FF14 third. ESO bores the piss out of me and I can only drink so much mead

Sorry, but the only "award" SWTOR deserves is "How to trash a multimillion dollar IP as asininly as you possibly can."

Bioware has made it blatantly obvious that they are out of touch with their players, and the only thing that matters is how -they- think the game should be played, no matter how much people say they don't like things they do. Which sadly isn't very fun. But Bioware things like gearing RnG is "exciting" and "thrilling".

They also think 5 plus year old bugs are things to be ignored. Things like male characters wearing bras. (Vector Hylus & Lord Scourge) Ok if your part of the Rocky Horror Picture show, not so much for inspiring awe in players.

They do deserve a Razzie Award for excelling at lying to their customers repeatedly though.

    Game is going strong.....just saying.
