Star Wars: The Old Republic News - Today marks a sad day for fans of all things Star Wars with the passing of Carrie Fisher, most famously known for her portrayal of Leia Organa, a princess, rebel and general. Fisher suffered a cardiac arrest on December 23rd and succumbed earlier today. Players in Star Wars: The Old Republic are gathering on Alderaan, the location of the Organa estate. Imgur Bericurra has posted lots of images and a Reddit thread has opened for players to post other gatherings.

    Just found out about it after walking out of the latest Star Wars movie with my daughter. Sad day indeed.

    I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

    2016 has been the same as any other year in terms of deaths.  Delusional people making out it's such a bad year compared to any others, just because a few celebs died.  Don't be so narrow minded.

    And this is how I find out she died.  Last I saw was yesterday BBC put up an article saying she was stable... No I haven't been anywhere today or had yet to go to any news site. Dam. Well that sucks.  

    Leonard Nimoy though was one of the few celeb deaths that actually hit me.  Had I been old enough at the time or realized. James Doohan would have been another. James Doohan because of how down to Earth he was off screen.  Grew up watching Star Trek. Anyway.  I digress.

    I think it is proper that her life is celebrated. Cheer to the players that did this. I saw one of her one women plays a she was Hysterical and poignant at the same time.

    Star Wars was and is my favorite movie of all time. It's so sad. We lost a great icon in Carrie Fisher. Her acting may have not been great to me but, her magic and presence was so amazing in those movies. One of my heroes. I'll miss her.

    Id debate that, statistically, since many big stars are entering their 60's, there are more deaths, purely due to nature and time taking its course....for the most part. Thou there are some very notable names that left us far too soon due to accidental or other means. Besides all that thou, there is no need to be a dismissive grouch about it.

    Well maybe there were people who gave 10 times more to charity than both these guys combined who died in 2016, but you would not know about them because media do not shove their name and pictures in your face on daily basis.

    I don't think so. All these people have put out art, etc. that has affected the way people do, like David Bowie with music. They were important because how they affected the fields they were in. It would be like if Stephen Hawking died.

    These people will live on with their work, etc. Say what you will, you cannot take that away from them.

    Death sucks in general thank you Mr. Obvious. No one is saying they are more important or not.    The thing with celebs is that even if you don't know them you do. They can impact your life without actually being a part of it or knowing them directly. They entertain. make you smile. happy. sad. Ect. You can connect with them or maybe them you indirectly. Like growing up and watching them. Something.  Maybe you liked their characters or music.  Nothing to do with them being more important but rather the lives which they have indirectly interacted with and had some sort of impact on. It's a no brainer that on a large scale when a celeb or big figure dies. It's typically a big thing.  Some bigger than others.

    Carrie Fisher was also a friend to the LGBT community.  She discusses her gay ex-husband in this old Advocate interview.  I find it sad to see kind-hearted people leave us, when we need so many of them in this world.

    I hope people see the bigger message.
    This type of health problem will become ever increasing as the older populace of gamer's reach the ages of 40+.
    Long periods of sitting and gaming is extremely dangerous for your health,warnings have been past along for quite some time but i feel most just look the other way not believing.

    Once heart disease,artery disease or any of the other internal functions related to lack of cardio and lots of sitting take a foothold,it is too late.You might be a lucky one and survive but your life will never be the same.

    I have only seen one gamer in all my years take it serious and yet people kind of laughed at him and did not take him serious.He would stand and move about during his entire time he would stream gaming on Twitch.tv.I think he is only in his early 20's but he knows and understands,good for him,i hope others will understand as well.

    Definitely a sad day.  I think it would be cool if the the devs for SWTOR made a special in-game monument for her along the lines of what Blizzard has done in WoW.  Yes it's sort of cheesy and her character's timeline doesn't match but for many of us she is just as much Star Wars as Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew and Billy Dee Williams.

    wow, just came home from the holidays, to see this. I really thought she was going to pull through.

    how sad. In truth, when I saw the first Star Wars in the theaters I absolutely developed a crush on her.

    Her and Linda Carter my first celebrity "character" crushes. I'm glad she was able to have a part in the new Star Wars movies.

    RIP Carrie.  Kinda haunting seeing the ending to Rogue One on the day she had the heart attack.  Good to hear she finished a lot of things she wanted to do just prior to this sad news.
