Is the discussion happening elsewhere? I thought the forums here would be busy.
Though I haven't played a shooter since Unreal Tournament (I am old) I thought the video was well made and it looked fun. Certainly impressive for a product still in alpha. And it is certainly a sign of life, of progress. That should make the SC fans happy.
Just seems odd to me.

On Star Marine: I have been playing matches and such, the Echo 11 map feels good; it's a good first release for it but it has rough edges and missing features (cover mechanics most noticeably). It's a finally for me being able to play FPS combat on SC without the massive frame drops of the PU, way smoother.
In terms of the FPS gameplay, is pretty much the normal you see around FPS shooters, with the exception of no-gravity FPS action, that on Echo 11 for example is a centralized area so we kinda just go 0G to make good use of shortcuts.
And will you be able to play, for lack of a better term, a 'caravan guard' on ships? Like, get XP if a ship reaches its destination safely?
But its mechanics and gameplay is pretty much what we have on the PU, so boarding ships yeah It's set to be a bit e-War, FPS, ship combat because Boarding has quite a complex design. (disable a ship > docking > hacking, etc..). TBA. As for the question Ship Escort is very much planned, not sure if via game quests though.
SC has no XP btw, or any planned leveling/skill system; it's up to us to get pro or get rekd.
People are too busy bitching about the game here.........
If you want an idea how it is, watch the gameplay videos I linked in other threads ... and form your own opinion.
Have fun
Like I said for a game that has allegedly raised the amount of money this one continues to brag about its the least talked about game in history.
if not for all the controversies and Derek Smart nonsense this game wouldnt have anyone talking about it but Chris Roberts and his lackeys.
Even resident hype machine Eryllion doesnt talk about it unless he is defending it or cutting and pasting what they say. There werent any comments in this forum for 7 or 8 days a week or so ago simply because once one person stops talking about it or instigating a flame war no one cares enough to say anything about it.

Not a fan of that radar bobbing though, I think that looks terrible.

As that is the fuel for the majority of this forum activity (that is pretty much a dozen people going in circles about the same things on every thread); it normally dies down.
I believe it's as most, SQ42 and 3.0 those yes, is what people want to see and play next. SM was usually a big deal around here because it was used to fuel drama / controversy, not really out of interest to play it, and that shows.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

In fact, i'm seeing more people excited/focused for the Flight Model changes than SM, it's a space sim after all; though it's working better for the streamers.
Mostly, what is left are the hard core posters from both sides (epic fandom and haters). Maybe when 3.0 launches or 2018 gets here and SQ42 launches things will pick up.
Well this means that Star Marine has to be handled as a seperate game unlike AC where changes affect AC AND PU.
This will lead to a plethora of problems and manhours to keep it updated/conform with the PU - My best guess is that they did a hack job to push a PU incompatible FPS module to the audience to safe their souls.
Edit: Oh and to answer the OP > nobody likes to talk about uncanny stuff
When you have cake, it is not the cake that creates the most magnificent of experiences, but it is the emotions attached to it.
The cake is a lie.
I refuse to get hyped about anything Star Citizen until the game actually comes out (and considering how p2w it is looking, probably not even then).
I don't know why we're supposed to get hyped at all the minuscule progress they make as the game is developed over a decade. Game is probably going to suck anyway.
"Get hyped everyone! They almost managed to put together a generic shooter module!"
But the grenades on Ollisar (as well on Arccorp), prove this SM features carried over, as you can see (from the issue council):
EDIT:
- Vaulting: Is on the PU and works on some objects currently.
- Vision Stability stuff: Is on the PU.
- The new armor suits released on SM are on the PU.
The only thing i'm seeing not working on the PU from SM; are the hand gestures.
