Why are none of you talking about Star Marine?

Is the discussion happening elsewhere? I thought the forums here would be busy.

Though I haven't played a shooter since Unreal Tournament (I am old) I thought the video was well made and it looked fun. Certainly impressive for a product still in alpha. And it is certainly a sign of life, of progress. That should make the SC fans happy.

Just seems odd to me.

First rule of Star Marine is you don't talk about Star Marine.
Love your posts brother. And that paraphrase comes from my favorite movie of all time :)

Well, this forum is more about Star Citizen drama, not much the Star Citizen game (in b4 "there is no game!!" reply).

On Star Marine: I have been playing matches and such, the Echo 11 map feels good; it's a good first release for it but it has rough edges and missing features (cover mechanics most noticeably). It's a finally for me being able to play FPS combat on SC without the massive frame drops of the PU, way smoother.

In terms of the FPS gameplay, is pretty much the normal you see around FPS shooters, with the exception of no-gravity FPS action, that on Echo 11 for example is a centralized area so we kinda just go 0G to make good use of shortcuts.

So is SM basically what will launch when a group attempts a hostile boarding of another ship?

And will you be able to play, for lack of a better term, a 'caravan guard' on ships? Like, get XP if a ship reaches its destination safely?

SM is just that like Arena Commander "mini-game inside the game"; so it's completely separate of the PU. What you get on it is normal matches under 2 game-modes.

But its mechanics and gameplay is pretty much what we have on the PU, so boarding ships yeah It's set to be a bit e-War, FPS, ship combat because Boarding has quite a complex design. (disable a ship > docking > hacking, etc..). TBA. As for the question Ship Escort is very much planned, not sure if via game quests though.

SC has no XP btw, or any planned leveling/skill system; it's up to us to get pro or get rekd.

Not talking about Star Marine because I am  too busy playing Star Marine ;-)

If you want an idea how it is, watch the gameplay videos I linked in other threads ... and form your own opinion.

No one talks about it anywhere but on reddit and at Smarts place. Even the official place is dead other than comments on a blog or video they put out.

Like I said for a game that has allegedly raised the amount of money this one continues to brag about its the least talked about game in history.

if not for all the controversies and Derek Smart nonsense this game wouldnt have anyone talking about it but Chris Roberts and his lackeys.

Even resident hype machine Eryllion doesnt talk about it unless he is defending it or cutting and pasting what they say. There werent any comments in this forum for 7 or 8 days a week or so ago simply because once one person stops talking about it or instigating a flame war no one cares enough to say anything about it.

Well, at least we managed some posts about the game this time. Now for 10 pages of copy/paste drama as every other thread... Meanwhile some others are playing it, haha

Its not really a MMORPG, and while there is a fair amount of non MMORPG talk here the interest in discussing SC (and interest in trolling SC) has died down quite a bit

I think it looks okay, not great for something that is almost 2 years late but whatever. Hopefully they do add more modes and features in a relatively short time. Like Sata Ball, atmosphere generators and so on...

Not a fan of that radar bobbing though, I think that looks terrible.

It has a big focus on the drama/trolling here. What is happening is that there isn't much going on the drama area (neither on the SC update delivery either), side of keep going in circles about the same thing over and over and over again.

As that is the fuel for the majority of this forum activity (that is pretty much a dozen people going in circles about the same things on every thread); it normally dies down.

I believe it's as most, SQ42 and 3.0 those yes, is what people want to see and play next. SM was usually a big deal around here because it was used to fuel drama / controversy, not really out of interest to play it, and that shows.

This describes average backer on SM: "SM is out? It's fine, cool beans. So... when 3.0?"

In fact, i'm seeing more people excited/focused for the Flight Model changes than SM, it's a space sim after all; though it's working better for the streamers.

I think after 4 years of hype and waiting, the people who are still interested in playing an unfinished game are currently playing it and those that are waiting for the MVP are doing just that, waiting...

Mostly, what is left are the hard core posters from both sides (epic fandom and haters).  Maybe when 3.0 launches or 2018 gets here and SQ42 launches things will pick up.

There are hundreds of posts an hour on Star Citizen's forums. I believe it has little to do with hype-fatigue and more so that the people who want to talk Star Citizen are over there talking Star Citizen.
How is that relevant to the OP's questions?  He asked why no one HERE is discussing it and why THESE forums have been quiet lately.

Star Marine has an uncanny feeling in the SC game, this is because it is decoupled of the PU mechanics, it seems like they fire up a complete different setting than in the PU and just reskinned the Cry FPS module (+ a few tweaks code pastings across modules)

Well this means that Star Marine has to be handled as a seperate game unlike AC where changes affect AC AND PU.
This will lead to a plethora of problems and manhours to keep it updated/conform with the PU - My best guess is that they did a hack job to push a PU incompatible FPS module to the audience to safe their souls.

Edit: Oh and to answer the OP > nobody likes to talk about uncanny stuff :D

Wasn't Star Marine supposed to be done awhile ago?  And it's still in alpha?  I'm supposed to be excited about it?

I refuse to get hyped about anything Star Citizen until the game actually comes out (and considering how p2w it is looking, probably not even then).

I don't know why we're supposed to get hyped at all the minuscule progress they make as the game is developed over a decade.  Game is probably going to suck anyway.

"Get hyped everyone!  They almost managed to put together a generic shooter module!"

Nothing released will be any different from the status of dev of the whole game, it wouldn't be Star Marine > Gold Release side by side with PU > Alpha Release. On that aspect only SQ42 would be any different.

I just was poking on this now and IDK what you are talking about. The SM mechanics seem to be overall being transferred to the PU, even there was a bug here that let you use grenades inside port ollisar, health system is there, so cover stuff.

But the grenades on Ollisar (as well on Arccorp), prove this SM features carried over, as you can see (from the issue council):

    EDIT:
    - Vaulting: Is on the PU and works on some objects currently.
    - Vision Stability stuff: Is on the PU.
    - The new armor suits released on SM are on the PU.

The only thing i'm seeing not working on the PU from SM; are the hand gestures.
