Best/Worst move by a GM you've ever witnessed?

DreadToothDreadTooth Member UncommonPosts: 150

So, what is the best or worst thing you've ever seen a GM do?

I've got the worst and the best for me from the same game.

Best was in UO, I was in Deceit I think around floor 2 or 3, where the bone wall was, and my friend was sitting by a wall chatting to a GM that was an in game friend of his. The GM was in the black space on the other side of a wall. I'm running around and see this guy try to attack my friend, so I attack him and he runs away. Later I come by I see him talking smack and running away from my friend. So I sit there and listen to their conversation. My friend goes 'that guy is pissing me off', GM goes 'yeah he keeps interrupting us' my friend says 'maybe he won't come back', GM then says 'if he comes back I'll just kill him'. Well, guy came back. Attacked, BAM insta-killed. Guy is chatting in ghost o0ooo0ooo0o000 lol, we spirit speak and see he is doing the 'WTF MAN' general response to the GM, GM goes 'you're annoying, fuck off' and after the guy cries 'but why did you kill me' the GM just says 'you were interrupting my conversation' LOL. I don't remember the GM's name, but my friend's name was Napalm and I was Misery, on the Baja shard.

Worst was also in UO, I was hanging out at the Occolo bank on the Baja shard. A bunch of us were drinking until our characters were bending over throwing up (bowing and doing *hic* I think they did 'yuck' too but I don't remember) to see who could get themselves to be stuck throwing up the longest (the winner ended up leaving his char logged in for hours to keep the throwing up timer counting down). We start talking about game features, one guy makes a statement basically saying UO is the best at something and proves it by saying something like 'EverQuest sucks'. Out pops GM Loki, "You are not allowed to mention other games!" BAM perma-banned. Everyone starts swearing at GM Loki, he says nobody is allowed to say the name of other games and if we do it he'll ban us too, everyone is telling him to go fuck himself and that he is a piece of shit, we tried reasoning with him before he disappeared saying the guy was trashing EverQuest, it didn't work. No idea what happened to GM Loki but we never saw a GM with that name again, someone mentioned later he got fired but we don't know if that as accurate or if he just changed his name.

Two contenders for weirdest times a GM did something was either when my friend Avatar and I were sitting on top of his small tower he had just placed and were chatting while he was decorating the roof, out pops GM Kazaam, "Shazam! I am the great Kazaam!" we're like 'uhh, hi' then he says "great spot for a house, you're doing a good job decorating" so we go 'uhm thanks' it goes silent for a minute, finally he says "ok, I'm off!" and "Shazam!" and disappears. LOL wtf? Or that time I was hanging out at Avatar's house IRL and he was bot mining from the inside corner of his house through the wall into the mountain edge, he's not paying attention as we're talking IRL and a GM pops up "Hey are you there?" Avatar says "Yes" GM says "Ok just checking" and disappears. LOL...

Anyways, good times.

Best GM was in WoW, back in my old ganking days.

I perma-ganked the hell out of a group of low level players, killed their quest NPCs and the gryphon master with my rogue, until after like an hour some of them logged over to their 2nd account and started to insult me in private chat.
I reported them and got contacted 3mins later by a GM who banned them and thanked me for "helping to make the game a better experience for everyone".

    Ha ha. Best GM ever.

Magnus Carlsens blunder Rxf4 at move 24 vs Svidler in the Norway Chess 2014 imo.

I think your idea of "best gm" is not my idea of 'best gm".

In your example the gm abused his power. So there you go, that's the worst example I know of for a bad gm.

The "best" I know of was in Lineage 2. I just got a great drop, picked it up and then the server crashed. When the server finally came up the drop was gone from my inventory.

I submitted a ticket, all nice like, no whining or demanding, and explained the situation and asked if they had record of the drop and if they would consider giving it back to me.

After a few hours it appeared in my inventory.

The 2nd best was also in Lineage 2. There was a bot train which people were reporting and eventually the head gm logged into his multi winged flying avatar and "removed" the bot train.

The best GM was in Aion when he went around in the capital city turning gold spammers into pillars of lava.

I got a few things past GM's in my time.

I remember in Age of Conan I was missing a piece of an armor set after doing the same dungeon nearly 200 times.  So they did a server merge and at the bottom of the notice of the server merge they stated "Nothing should go wrong during the merge, but if you have any issues or any of your items go missing, then please let a GM know".  I was like, well shit, so they're expecting that items could go missing.  Day after the merge I ring up a GM and tell him the item that I need is mysteriously missing and he gives it to me.  Turns out later that the drop rate for that item was bugged and only dropped a handful of times a year, so I don't feel bad about it.

In the early days of EVE Online they used to reimburse lost ships if it was a server error.  So I claimed server lag or service drop and got a few ships back.  Saved me a few hundred million in lost Vagabonds back when a few hundred million was actually worth something.

I also, legitimately, had a full level 20 guild city turned over to one of my characters in AoC.  I hadn't logged onto one of my characters for more than a year and I left him in a guild that I was playing in back then.  I logged him on one day, checked the guild roster and the last person to log in was over a year ago.  So I petitioned a GM to give the city over to me so I could continue running the guild.

When I got the city, I found several hundred gold and several hundred gold worth of crafting materials in the bank.  So I kicked everyone out including the old guild leader and his girlfriend, renamed the guild so they wouldn't know who snagged it if they came back and invited all my alts.

If you're referring to the guild I snagged, then that was definitely not it.  In fact, I hated the stupid name when I joined, but they were doing the raids I wanted to do and had an open spot.  But my lips are sealed.  I've made enough enemies in AoC.
