One of the more controversial things to be added to Elder Scrolls Online lately is the Crown Crate, an item that can be purchased for real world money that will contain a number of in-game items out of a list of possible ones for the current "season".

Trying to decide if I want my kid to play ESO with me or not after Christmas. Edit: Nevermind. Answered the question. Wait til end of video to answer questions Ike.
Don't people tried and some got from 50 crates almost 30 Battle mage and Imperial Mage costumes and shit load of pots . It's a retarded money grab for Idiots by the way I guess After this retarded patch I will personally quit ESO I can't stand such outrageous greedy move from devs.
Personally I don't like to spend money on things that have the odds stacked against you so I don't play the crate games.
On the other hand, I am totally for selling these items in game. It allows me to play for free. I'm enjoying the game and if they want to spend their money and it allows me to play it for free, I say let the bad mathematicians keep the servers running!

I don't play ESo and therefore can't judge what is worth something, but in the comments e.g. on Reddit people weren't exactly excited.
I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore
This seems to be extremely addictive for weaker minded people like me.
Bill, buy more crates!! Make more videos!!!
I no longer play ESO, but this gives me just another reason to not come back. Yes, I understand it's "optional", but in the end they all end up the same way.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
How does their existence affect your game play? Other than funding the company that is bringing you the game.
and while I admire people who only patronize companies they think are "socially responsible" I wonder if you research every company you patronize as a lot of them do a lot of questionable things.

I am curious exactly which categories are the seasonal items. Looks like just the apex category, but don't have a warm fuzzy on that either.
I've decided I will be buying some at the beginning of each month and that's it, I can see how folks will easily get caught in their money making pit and wind up spending way more than they should be.
Luckily for me, I am not really interested in this round of apex mounts, but I am interested in one of the senche mounts in the next category down that I want and already have the Gems to buy it. But, I will wait for the end of the season to see if I can get it to pop between now and then.
You don't get it, they trigger envy, one of the worst human emotions hence the anger over their existence.
Sure, few will admit to it, but it makes people feel bad hence the outcry.

Gambling boxes in MMOs (and the often tacky stuff in them) don't provoke any feelings in me anywhere in the envy spectrum but I understand why people who like them would like to think that's it. Whenever I took the Bartle test, conspicuous consumption was never the result I got.

These things could just as easily be available via the regular CS but instead they want to lock it behind a loot box to maximize profits at the expense of their game and fairness which is very telling of the direction that Zenimax is taking ESO.
It's not about bettering the game, it's about using it as a tool to best serve their financial goals which inevitably will be to the detriment of the game and if you believe the sale of loot boxes will further the development of a game that already releases DLC every few months then you probably believe the Earth is flat and humans have never been to the moon.
These things always start out 'harmless' but they never end that way.

I spent $200 on the Crown Crates and feel I got my money's worth. Ironically I got two of the Storm Wolf cards (the second one game me something like 130 gems). If there had been a way to gift it instead I would have gladly given it to you Bill. Maybe they will add that feature in at a later date.
After getting all the items I wanted I cashed in everything else and now have around 500 gems. I'll be hanging onto those for the next Season. I hope Dwemer is the next one.
Well, you did this for work so it is a tax deduction.

The best part is that its not really a crate its a guy dealing cards to you. Nothing subtle there. But you have to give them points for originality there have been more than a dozen of these cash grab tactics with boxes. Some were actual boxes you clicked, some were keys, some were boxes you needed keys to unlock.. But buying a crate (presumably the one the guy is sitting on) so he can deal you cards is pretty awesome.
Hopefully the high end ones he gets a crate and a table....
I like the option, to contribute to ESO - while perhaps being lucky with the loot cards.. But thats it for me. Hopefully people will be able to control it, and not go on a spender spree.
But the acronym MMMORPG now currently means Microscopic Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. Kappa.
Can people who get those specials sell them to people who want to buy them? Would that be cheaper on average?
