Just tried the new F2P version of EVE.

I have 3 accounts that I haven't seen for a while I subbed to one before the F2P launch. My thoughts are that it is heavily restricted like the trial. Will this be enough to get more people into EVE ? or no different than playing the trial. I would like to have seen less restrictions and maybe more bonus for subbing players. Thoughts ?

I think there should be a middle tier of sorts, with a reduced price sub.

It would let players take their playing experience further but still have limitations on the powerful stuff.

I think CCP went a little too cautious, wanting to make sure no subbed player would be tempted to downgrade, but perhaps at the same time limited the new player exp too much.

My thoughts are much more in depth.
It is not about the price or rewards ,it is about the LACK OF game.

For myself i can enjoy ANY kind of game/genre ,it does not matter ,but i need to see a well designed game from the bottom up.
Anyone who knows Eve knows it was RUSHED,they struggled to even get this game out there. So in reality it was never fully planned for long term but in stead just a rushed idea to get players fighting in space with VERY little additional game play.
I need more than ships in space, mainly because space is just too bland/boring.I need more than a cockpit with a hud, again too boring.

asteroids.....some cheap form of mining,no thanks ,not nearly good enough,so yo u see this game just lacks in every aspect of it's design,so what exactly would be the attraction to a gamer looking for a complete game?I can tell you what is NOT an attraction, any FREE moniker or any rewards for not being free.
Instead of lazy, cheap marketing gimmicks, improve your game,i am 100% positive CCp knows what the average gamer wants, they must simply be non confident in their ability to deliver and take the risk.

The game is 10+ years old, and you are going on about it being rushed out. If you are still hanging onto this after 10yrs the issue is yours.

Its a sandbox, its up to the players to create the content. Lots of people say they enjoy the sandbox. What they really mean is they enjoy the sandbox as long as others are creating the content.

I think you made this post to complain just because you can.

That's a bit unfair, EvE has plenty of content, you probably never really played it.

But I do agree with you that just being on a Spaceship is not enough for many players to keep them interested, me included.
I believe that EvE is the best PvP-strategic-sandbox game ever made.
Unfortunately there is so much space I can stare at before I get bored.

Many years ago I suggested that CCP should have blended EVE and Dust 514 together, that would have attracted people like me who likes explore and fight on Planets with a player character.
    And I wasn't wrong.
Star Citizen picked up on this idea of blending Space and Planet Surface together and you can see by how much money they raised that's a concept that players really love.

CCP should wake up, EvE is still the best Space Conquest Simulator, but they really need to up their game before Star Citizen gets released.

When I played, I loved mining.  I played this game to relax and it did well for me at that.

"Star Citizen gets released"............This statement alone is enough for CCP to not worry.

Well in theory they are different, the core design is definitely different, but they practically attract the same players...people that loves Space Battles.
Just watch when (If) SC gets released.
If they released it polished and with all the features, I am pretty confident that they will decimate EVE player base.

CCP doesn't want to do anything to lose their core players.
    They wouldn't lose any.
It would be basically 2 games in one, EVE core gameplay would not change.

F2P is not the answer for Eve.  Most people have already tried it and dont like it while younger gamers dont care much for games that require thought...

If CCP really wanted to bring new life to Eve, they would let people play for free but only as NPC factions like the Angel Cartel or as a whole new invading faction.  Imagine if there were ten systems randomly placed in null that F2P players were allowed to spawn in that were restricted to the F2P faction only and had a station where they could resupply, they were given free ships of crusier and lower and they were given the mission to take over null space.  The regular null alliances would have to really coordinate things to fight back this new invading hoard...

Fun for F2P players and new targets for the paying players.  I have often wondered why no game does this.  Make the F2P people weaker like orcs and paying players stronger like space marines.  One on one the paying player would always win but in packs or hoards, the F2P people could actually win. If the free players side gets too big, introduce "limited time" special weapons for the paying players to restore the balance.  The players would make their own content just like in Eve and all you would have to worry about as developers is not letting one side totally dominate the other.

It is a rather hard thing to balance. Particularly players who don't spend so much time in a MMO a month tend to do the downgrade when it becomes F2P. At the same time, being too restrictive turn off new players.

Hopefully will they balance things right in the next few months, Eve is one of few MMOs doing something different and it would be a shame if they canceled it due to few players. I am not sure that F2P was the right decision though, a 1-3 months full trial or something similar might have been a better way to get in new players.

Nothing to do with F2P - P2P balance, it is purely a matter of exploitability.

Providing free, powerful throw away accounts is big no-no...

Alpha means cannon fodder for veteran players. Way to restrictive to keep any of the f2p players for to long. I give it a month.

I have to agree with this. I logged in and saw that I couldn't train any of my skills, and couldn't use most of my ships. Unless there's a change, I don't really see a reason to log back in as F2P.

Its simple really.  You play with the f2p for a few weeks then buy some apex and now you are considered a subscriber.  Some of you who had a bunch of ships they cannot now fly... You telling me that you don't have enough isk to buy some apex?  But somehow you have a bunch of t3 ships.

PLEX is what you meant, going for about a billion ISK I think.

These folks want to "play for free" and have access to Omega benefits.  As you stated the avenue is there for them.

Alpha clones are for newer players to give them longer access than a free trial, let them play very casually and return easily.

But even for vets it lets you log in and join up with Red vs Blue, NPSI roams and fleets or faction wars.

You have to focus on what alpha clones allow you to do rather than what they limit.

An Alpha Clone in a frigate can warp scramble an important enemy ship, deciding a battle. You do not need Omega Clones in T3 ships for that ....

I don't have any T3 ships. The only ships I can fly are a handful of T1 ships. I don't mind subbing, my post was about the F2P being too restrictive to hold new players. To buy a plex last time I looked was 1.2 billion isk which would take months for a F2P player to earn.

Have a video going about my experience... but to sum it up... 4+ years away form the game (and that time i had a very short stint.. as in hours short.. not days) i was entirely lost. But i had my Itty... So it was not entirely a loss.

This have been a good conversation

This is really just an unlimited free trial.  It's even more restrictive than SWTOR's vindictive, "we hate you for wanting to play for free", version of F2P, and that's saying a lot.  The ships that you're limited to are scraping the bottom of the barrel in Capital Ship Hot-Drop Online.  Especially now that Greyscale is out of the way and they have started reversing his changes incrementally.

On the other hand, if you ever die to a gate camp again after this patch, then you're just a lazy fuck, cause now you can have scouts logged off at all the major chokepoints for free.

If you've ever wondered about EVE, but were too lazy for the free trial then... uhhhh, well I guess this doesn't change much except you can explore for more than a couple of weeks.
