Well that is one epic way to fail it all up. If Blizzard was considering it, and I'm sure there were, they definitely aren't now. This was not the way to go about it. I swear the more I hear about these Nost devs the more I think they are a bunch of self-entitled babies. "We didn't get what we wanted so now we are just gonna throw a hissy fit".

I hope Blizzard sues them into the ground so far their great grand kids are still paying the debt off.

Also edit to add: I hope Blizzard sues every single person that takes this code and opens a server. Time to put a stop to this crap. I understand why some private servers exist. SWGEmu is because SWG shut down. But WoW is still going. It may not be how some like it, but it is going and going strong. Personally I love how WoW is now. I don't remember vanilla being as good as some of these people scream it was.
Translation: I don't like vanilla so anyone who does is a self-entitled baby because they don't see things as I do.

I think there are plenty of "babies" on both sides of this issue.

No, you are wrong. I don't care if their is a vanilla server...From Blizzard. These assholes stole Blizzards IP and assets. Personally if I was Blizzard I would be suing these jackwads. Stealing someones work is not the way to go about doing things. This was theft by the Devs of Nost. I don't give a shit if you say it isn't, it is.

Oh and I played Vanilla for a long time. So to say I don't or didn't like it is an assumption on your part...you know what they say about that. I just think WoW is fine the way it is. Rose-tinted glasses and all that.

I'm pretty sympathetic towards the opening of official vanillas servers, it's something I'm glad was finally being addressed. This sorta screwed the pooch, though.

I am guessing since the success of newest xpack, Blizz is giving rats ass for a legacy server. They will probably make one day a legacy server after WoWs userbase decline drastically They have nothing to lose, its probably a win for them anyway. This way the legacy server gets even more developed and when they want it they just get the whole code with all those people on board. And those Elysum guys are probably out of the reach of the US law.

Don't care - Legion is the best WoW has ever been. No need for Vanillia nostalgia, or its rose tinted glasses.
Even better than WotLK? Must be really good. Legion is the first expansion I did not buy right when it released. Maybe I should give it a go.
I dislike a few things they've done with the game to the point I won't be resubbing for this expansion or probably any expansion again however.

With that being said, Legion is one of the best expansions I've played in WoW, they've just been slowly drifting away from the things that I personally have enjoyed from WoW.

Remember all the whiteknight fanboys that gave Suzie so much shit for calling the code release a week or two ago? You people owe her an apology because she nailed it.

No how does me saying I don't remember Vanilla being as good as some of the people on these forums and else where scream about mean I didn't like it? It means that I don't think it was as good as y'all remember. Obviously I enjoyed it enough to play it. But it is nice of you to assume things.

I personally think WoW is in a better place as it is.
A lot of people agree with you on World of Warcraft being in a better place now, but some people don't think so. And they're not all entitled-babies or wearing rose-tinted glasses. Some just prefer a different game than you do.

When you say World of Warcraft is still going strong, you're talking about a game that only vaguely resembles the original version. It's not really the same game. It's like the difference between the original Star Wars movies and the remade versions. I suppose technically Return of the Jedi is still Return of the Jedi, but you can't tell me that seeing Haden Christensen in the final scene doesn't change the movie in ways some people don't like. George Lucas may prefer it that way and he has every right to change it because it's his movie, but I'm thankful he doesn't get to roam the world and destroy the original movie that I much prefer in an effort to prevent anyone else from experiencing the older version.

Sue? The net code won't have used Blizzard's code; they complied with Blizzard's "cease and desist" and with this act though they are essentially putting up the shutters up and closing down. They have called it a day.

I'll agree that I can see why some may still want to play the game of old. I still miss taming rare pets that had different stats than the other ones. It was fun finding a pet with perhaps a faster attack. That is one thing I do miss off Vanilla.

But this right here, releasing the code for no other reason than Blizzard wasn't going to discuss legacy/vanilla servers at Blizzcon. That was a childish thing to do on their part. They did it for no other reason than they weren't getting their way. That is self-entitled. I don't think all people that want the vanilla servers are self-entitled. I think the devs of Nost are acting like self-entitled babies.
Well, I read their post and they don't sound like self-entitled babies to me.  If what they're saying is true, it seems like Blizzard's efforts earlier this year were nothing more than a public relations stunt to quell a vocal segment of fans that want older versions of World of Warcraft.

I don't see this move by Nostalrius as being stupid like some people seem to think.  I don't think Nostalrius is trying to force Blizzard into moving forward with official legacy servers by releasing their source code (because that would be very stupid).  I think what Nostalrius is doing is recognizing, in as nice a way as they can, that Blizzard is full of shit; that they are not, in fact, discussing the possibility of legacy servers.  Nostalrius is giving up on that possibility and are giving the community the next best thing to an official vanilla server; their code.  Obviously, an official server would be much better, but if the events being described in the post are true, it's logical to assume that there's no official server on the horizon.

Don't care - Legion is the best WoW has ever been. No need for Vanillia nostalgia, or its rose tinted glasses.

Yea Legion What a Joke. You guys are wearing Rose tinted glasses because the game is the same as every other MMO out there. Made for the casual 15 minute a week gamer. Legion only had its 90 day success and you will watch the game become a ghost town again. Its already happening. My wife's guild which had over 100 people online at peak times in August can only get 12 to 15 people online at peak nights. That is because the game is still click and group up, not driving people into premade social groups. You might think well shit I cannot wait around for a group. Well did you think anyone wants to wait around for a group? If you have social skills you rarely have to, but since you dont need social skills click a button and you win.

The game is a JOKE and only people will continue to not realize the truth and continue to the cycle of insanity. Say WOW IS THE BEST FUCKING GAME EVER, then quit around 3 to 6 months into the expansion, come back at the end of the expansion and start the cycle all over again. I have several friends that do the exact same thing but if CATA, or MOP, or WOD, or Legion was that dam great why do people stay for a few months then quit? That is because its the same pile you been playing for 8 years. You didnt hear of this cycle Pre-WOTLK not because the game was new but because the game had replayability and took time to play.

Honestly I gave up on Vanilla servers back in June when Blizzard shown their hand that they were just pandering to people. Yea I play a little FFXIV, ESO and now MOO. But you know what, my time is going into Fishing come the Spring because its far more enjoyable and engaging than any MMO or game today. That is because they want every 15 minute weekend warriors to feel like they are some special snowflake

Good their are others who notice servers have been running for years and even with this ONE shutdown, there are still lots running right this moment.

So im still wondering why is this one so special? Why do people think this one makes or breaks the chances for legacy servers? lol

Is it because some youtubers (who have the cheek to do WoW official server content and take ad-revenue while complaining about not longer able to play on a p.server lol) and then gaming media followed suit? Someone above said this server been running for 6 years? yet im sure most here, myself included, only even knew it existed because of sites like this reporting on the closure and visit to blizzard, else it would still be hidden away like all the rest before and after it.

Or is it just because its the only one that have gotten any gaming media attention and therefor the only one that exists you many people? I haven't seen so much ranting and raving for lawsuits for the 100s of other servers running over the years.

Forum Lawyers - "sue them out of existence!! bring the law down on them!! ruin the lives of their families!!!"

Blizzard - "Nah well just issue a cease and desist service like we do with the others every so often and because its getting so much public attention, i guess we could invite the guys in for a chat and carry on the public attention longer."

it wasn't buggy, was up consistently and had a large population and you couldn't pay for advancing a character.  It had started gaining a lot of attention in the year or so before it was shut down.  Not many others private servers were as successful.
