Hey everyone! My name is Horsejoke, I'm an Associate Producer with Snail Games USA.
We've been getting a lot of questions about Dark and Light since the Chinajoy reveal, so I'm here to help answer some of your questions about the game. Also, as we enter into our closed beta tests and closer to the official launch, I'll be keeping a close eye on community feedback on the game and coordinating communication between the community and our development teams.
Today, I'll be answering some basic questions about Dark and Light, gameplay systems, including faction gameplay and progression.
Q:Why has Snail decided to keep the original Dark and Light name and logo?
A: Dark and Light is a huge passion project for Snail. When it was first being developed, it was a little overambitious considering available technology, and we weren't able to deliver on the original vision for the game. Now, technology is at a point where we feel confident that we can deliver on that vision, so we've decided that it only makes sense to continue using the original Dark and Light brand.
Q: What form will movement and combat take in Dark and Light?
A: This is where things get a little different; Dark and Light will function using action-style controls, much like a first-person shooter. We'll be able to give you all a closer look at some gameplay footage soon.
Q: In some recent interviews, Snail has mentioned that Dark and Light will have three factions for players to choose from, can you expand on the faction system and how it will affect gameplay?
A: Sure! After creating a character, players will be able to choose from one of three factions, each with their own background and lore. Each faction controls a main "city" hub that serves as a neutral zone for players who belong to that faction. There's a lot we want to explore with inter-faction relations, a lot of what makes it into the full game will depend on how factions play out in testing.
Q: Will the dragon shown in the teaser be available as a mount in-game?
A: Yep! We're planning on launching with 10~ available mounts, both ground-based and flying, but that number may change during development.
Q: What kind of progression systems exist in Dark and Light, and how many classes are there?
A: Dark and Light is technically classless; as you level up, you will earn attribute and skill points that can be allocated in a number of different ways. Specialization will be important for players who want to form alliances and build bases together.
That's all the information I can share for now - if you have any questions or feedback for the Dark and Light team, then leave a comment, start a thread here, or you can join the discussion on the DnL discord channel here: https://discord.gg/tbkxRdj.
Looking forward to sharing more about the game as development continues!

I hate that shit.
EDIT: WOOT 1500th post! At least something positive came out of this thread!

" Dark and Light will function using action-style controls, much like a first-person shooter."
not sure what the issue is but then again i don't really care, it's just odd to me some of the things people complain about sometimes.

Quotes from Horsejoke on discord tonight (just now in fact) in relation to the unanswered points in the OP
"@Kroy we chatted a little bit about fun vs. grind here [in discord] before, it all comes down to personal preference but I think we'd benefit from a stronger focus on active gameplay over eating and drinking every few minutes; that'll be tweaked a lot during EA probably."
"PvE with PvP options is kind of a strange one, we don't want people turning on PvP and ganking someone then quickly switching it off, there are obvious solutions to that but nothing perfect and I'm not sure how much of a priority it is since we have both server types planned, so I can't really comment on that right now."
Look how your character moved in that game.
Yeah it was way a head of its time but to me that is more fp shooter movement. Dnl characters will not be able to strafe like that.
Think he means the actual aiming and action combat.
Yeah to think the game is just sitting there, I loved the game as well.
Discussion / Dark and Light will play like a First Person-Shooter
is that really a complaint or is it inviting discussion on the idea of the game working like a first person shooter in a genre that doesn't have a lot of games that work like a "first person shooter".Or in this case "much like a first person shooter".
It's ok to discuss things. It's ok for people to weigh the pros and cons on how combat will play out. And since this was a little news on how the game would actually play, it makes sense that people would be interested in that point.

Click bait.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's not like he gets money for every person who reads this thread. And, as I've noted before, no one is complaining in the thread.
This is not to say that there will be not be people who hate this or complain but not one person in this thread complained about the idea that the combat will be "like" or "much like" a first person shooter.
As far as to whether or not this was deliberate, I suppose you would have to take it up with the OP. Maybe he just didn't read it well but since he doesn't edit out the actual wording in the article I think it's safe to assume he just placed it here for people to read.
