Maybe it's just me but I understood @Ammon777_new 's statement as a joke rather than a religious manifest for gaming.

You might make that mistake, but his sig is "-- Jesus Saves !!!!"

Also he repeatedly proselytizes in his posts.

But he does not get moderated.

A high quality sandbox mmo is what I´m looking for! Radar locked :)

I think it will be heavily PvP focused for Twitch. That kind of thing is very watchable. Oh well wait and see I guess.

I'm definitely interested in this game, seems to be the only western sandbox mmo to have a AAA development budget, we'll just have to wait and see whether they can deliver AAA quality.

The things that stood out from the announcement

    Starting new civilisations
This very much implies that we'll be able to build stuff within the world, rather than being instanced away. That is great news and an important feature of a sandbox (imo). If my friends and I can form a guild then build our own town in the wilderness that will be great. Also implies that the world will be very large and persistent and not just an H1Z1 clone.

    Murderous player bandits
This implies open world pvp, sounds like FFA rather than consensual. Could be a very big barrier for entry for majority of playerbase but assuming it is consensual then could be a great feature. Combined with building our own towns there could be some seriously fun pvp in this game. Combination of swords, muskets and the supernatural.

    Emergent Gameplay
This is only possible if the game has depth. So, assuming they are using the term correctly, this is also great news. Could come in the form of class freedom, or just having many different ways to approach the game (combat, crafting, building, political, pvp, pve etc). I'm hoping they'll achieve their emergent gameplay both through combat depth (different ways to fight) as well as entirely different ways to play the game (like swg - go combat, or crafter, or social etc).

    Twitch
I personally don't understand the appeal of twitch - if you have time to watch a game, why aren't you playing the game? - but it does mean that Amazon will have to make a concerted effort to make the game enjoyable to watch which means making the gameplay accessible. I do feel this means we're likely to end up with action-combat rather than something deeper, but making the game accessible is a key to success.

I also feel like twitch could help increase awareness of the game and keep interest going for longer. WoWs initial success was due to it being a superior product at launch, but it's continuing success is self-perpetuating - it is successful because its successful. People stick together and get invested in a game, so if this new MMO can gain enough of a following at launch it should be able to maintain it long term.

@cameltosis I think you are hitting the nail.

For me 'murderous player bandits' is a deal breaker, as is action-combat. But I am sure it will find an audience.

Amazon is probably spending a pretty big dime on this game, and they want this game to be integrated with twitch.  This tells me they want a broad appeal game for the masses. So things like 'murderous player bandits' will probably mean something else, and not the pk'ing everyone here seems to think.

It's really nice to see a big money studio working on an mmo, instead of a few amateurs with pipe dreams looking for hand-outs on Kickstarter. Two words have me concerned though: Emergent Gameplay. In Archeage that was code for - let douchebags be douchebags and the publisher turns a blind eye because they either can't or won't do anything about it.
  • kitaradkitarad Member LegendaryPosts: 6,696
To be honest if it is open world FFA PvP I am definitely out but hopefully those who find this fun will be ecstatic a big AAA company is spending money making a game for them.

  • filmoretfilmoret Member EpicPosts: 4,906
The way he was describing their vision made me think the mmo is going to be run on separate servers in which streamers would run the server rules.  So you might see 100 different servers all run by different players with different rulesets.  Personally I don't like that idea but at the same time at least it will offer players the opportunity to pvp or not.
Are you onto something or just on something?

You might be right, but I really cannot see how it could mean something else. Please enlighten me.

Since its Amazon, and they'll no doubt be looking for widespread appeal,  I'd expect that they'll limit PvP to only happen within certain parameters, or there will be PvE servers.

    @Ammon777_new

I personally find it quite low that you get so many "LOL"s for your postings here.

Many people took offense in the ads on this website..."page is not suitable for children", "promoting porn", "wife saw me surfing this website, thought i was watching porn" etc.
    Those postings got tagged "insightful".

A person makes a decision to not expose himself to a certain influence, as it makes him feel better about himself and according to what he believes is a step forward to become a better person and to positively affect his relation to who he cares for. Gets lol'ed at.

Perhaps you should not be sharing your personal religious beliefs on a gaming forum and expect anything more than lols hmm..

And lamenting the insensitivity is also laughable... don't you think. It's a gaming forum for f's sake.

Actually the carvings on the man's Iron mask say, " Vita Aeterna"  witch seems to be Revelations if my Latin and my biblical study is correct.  It reminds me of the tv show supernatural. This could be a 17th century colonial game with religious supernatural tones.

I ll let the frothing at the mouth people test it for me. I m done buying into games until I get a play through myself. All this hype is useless to me, and ever since Warhammer, I don t believe a thing any developer says, I don t care if Jesus himself was making it.

That's ok.  I'm pre ordered, and I don't let myself get excited until closer to 2098.  So it sits on the back burner.  I'll get periodic updates on the status, and don't have to bother with it.

Actually 'vita aeterna' is 'eternal life' and has been used in many contexts. By Thomas Aquinas in 'Living with God' for example.

BTW it could not have come from Revelations, except by translation, as Revelations was written in Koine Greek, not Latin.

However the game could be anything from a 1st person perspective game like Skyrim or a game that looks like Dont Starve. Not that this is a deal breaker for most gamers but it would be for me

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Love the idea of deep twitch integration with streamer-led events. Streamers as "dungeon masters" of a sort could be incredibly fun (and funny), and would finally give people a reason to watch an MMORPG on twitch.

I personally don't understand the appeal of twitch - if you have time to watch a game, why aren't you playing the game?
Some people like to play whatever game their playing and put up a twitch stream on their second monitor.
The acronym MMORPG use to mean Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.

But the acronym MMMORPG now currently means Microscopic Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. Kappa.

Twitch is the key design concept for all of their games.

They want to create a new consumer base that plays, streams and watches twitch.

I mean Amazon is looking to make billions here via advertising to masses through twitch.

They basically want to replace TV with twitch

I think that the real question is "What does that look like?" How do you design an MMO that is compelling to watch/stream? I mean we know arena shooters, MOBA, etc are successful, probably because they're quick. How do you design an MMO to be similarly "exciting". My concern is that they'll wind up with a game full of griefers. I mean they're bad enough now as it is without the motivation of being watched by millions.
