You know, it's not even that I mind normal raiding -- I am a tank, after all -- but it's the fact that this is another artificially created gate on content for an item with a poor drop rate in order to force people to continue to come back ad nauseum. The fact that it didn't appear in any phase of alpha or beta testing in this way and is not indicated anywhere in the quest description when it's accessed by players and that the issue was "uncovered" by players THE DAY of the first wing of LFR opening is simply awful communication on the part of Blizzard.
If that's the way they want it, fine. But TELL your community for Pete's sake.
Artificial gate? Really? This is THEIR game, their design, and their choice in how to present it to customers who may or may not choose to pay to play it. Maybe Blizzard finally got sick and tired of everyone labeling the game a "dungeon lobby" with the whole LFG junk that has been since Cataclysm. Maybe, just maybe they did this so that players group together properly with significant meaning and more social interaction.
Normal raiding is VERY easy compared to how it used to be, I made a full PUG and cleared the whole thing in 5 hours.
These days an hour is too long to complete anything in a MMO. Once you tack the word raid on I suppose today’s gamers might stretch to two hours with cookies, glass of milk and a comfy cushion. There would have to lots of ding noises though and flashing awards of some kind to keep them attentive to the screen.
The poor fellow organising it would have to keep up the patter full time, you might even need a dedicated group handler, to keep them cuddled and cosseted through the whole two hour ordeal.
Five hours? I would not be able to handle the nervous breakdowns, screaming rants and tantrums. And that’s not even going into those distracted by a Twitter post or the like.
Pure hell.
An hour might be too long for YOU, but don't lump the entire genre and fans into the same grouping under your personal projections. You may have aged out of the time-consuming genre without capacity to stay up past the end of the 6pm News story about people on your lawn, but the world does not slow down to match your pace.
Even in a game like GW2 there are still dedicated WvW commanders that spend around as much time on reset days in order to capture and hold maps against enemies of the same fortitude.

I think the "5 hour" part of your story would be a non starter for those complaining.
Also, most people "join" groups, not form them which can result in fairly long waits to find one.
It was a pug... you don't have to do the whole dungeon to do the quest, you can do the 5 hours over the course of a week... you could even extend the lockout...
I don't see this as problem, in fact it'll make LFR a bit more enjoyable as it's far too easy. It seems to me that people complain a lot without doing much. Maybe, just maybe Blizzard could have announced this sooner and it probably wouldn't be such an issue.
It does not matter how hard or easy the instance is, the point is where are you going to find people who can commit that much time to doing it? Every time I have raided, you always have to have people on standby to replace those that cannot stay. The guild will be running this raid, but when people see 5 hours they are going to bail.

You know what EVE devs say to their players that want better gear? - "Harden the fvck up!"
Yea and in eve's case they could even text them also... all 5 of them.
Yes, you actually guessed it right. But 5 with 5 zeros :P And that's probably quarter of WOW subs if we exclude China players that paid for 60min in the last 30 days (yes, China subs per hour, and this is how Blizz makes-up those sub numbers).

That was a joke about gamers today, we really need a "irony" smile on here for some people.
I dont see the issue.... with all the gated content in so many games... all the microtransactions, the pay to win games, the poor content, the poor development, the devs and publishers crapping all over the players....
and the complaining surprises any of us?
Wakey wakey folks... the gamers allowed Blizzard and other companies to pull these stunts and the player base was all honky dorey with it for years....
Blizzard gating content? hello, you must be new to WoW... they have gated raid content from the birth of Molten Core.... get over it.

This is what I mean, the LFR is AFK easy, the normal is like what I remembered LFR to be like, and Heroic is what normals used to be back in the day.
Hence why I don't see this as a problem that you gotta do normals to get the skin.
all of wow raids are boring- basically the same crap 'coruption' ...blah blah blah..."
