I do not need reviews and actual gameplay to have intrest in a game. If you do then have at it but I am super excited for this game and will be playing Day 1.
They got me with this and with survival which is more sill based
"JS: Combat in Dark and Light is a unique blend of modern survival and action RPG combat systems. Melee combat is more viable and rewarding than other survival games, and the addition of enchanted weapons and offensive spells add an entirely new dynamic to both 1-on-1 and large-scale group combat. "
Melee in RPGS is an under dog so this is amazing news.
Ark survival melee is very rewarding against people but melee gets ruined by OP game braking tames later so .....
For example I could pvp vs 2 guys with Gun and bow in metal armors while I had only 1 Speer and leather armor but I was maxed in Melee dmg and HP and poor thugs found them self dead after penetrating them with my spear LOL
But Ark sucks because no skill bastards can tame a rex and kill me but I don't have time to tame nor desire any more .
For me this is great news ..I never understood people who like range range is safe range is op in most game
Hope they get it right Melee should have harsh downsides but also should have Extremely high pay off and MMOs failt at this task
MMORPG: What crafting professions can players engage in?
JS: Rather than standard professions, players will have the freedom to choose the kind of crafting path they want to pursue. For example, players interested in building can choose to take skills and learn recipes that focus on creating or improving structures. Those who plan to focus mainly on PvP can dedicate skill points to weapon or equipment-focused crafting abilities. PvE players can unlock recipes for useful items that will help them survive in the wild.
That sounds HORRIBLE!.... Crafting in these games should be integral to a point that players require others to craft so that it becomes a well established economy. Right now they're talking about a crap shoot of allowing people to not rely on other players to craft at all. It is separate from combat, it would seem.
I'd have liked to see something similar to EVE or the up coming Camelot Unchained, where crafting is essentially done through the same skill points used in combat (EVE is more about Skill points invested in mining ships and economy brokering vs. combat ships). This way it makes players choose to be a combatant or a crafter, and if it is the former then they rely on the latter. This makes for a more harmonious connection between the groups and a much more balanced game economy.

No they are not.
Those who decide to craft will craft and sell to those who don't. It practically says it in the quote you put.
If anything, I see this as a good thing as now players can concentrate on what they enjoy as opposed to being a slave to tasks they aren't interested in.

Kind of funny, they have to jump on the survival bandwagon. Makes you wonder if anything from the original game will be kept.
I'm thinking not.
Still hoping it's fun, and PVE servers help assuage fears, but I do NOT want another berry collecting game.
Still it's pretty clear that the core game and core mechanics is a survival game, mmo elements are secondary.
I hope it's fun regardless but players should go in expecting a survival game first and foremost not a fantasy MMO.
Well, Snail Games probably referred to it as a fantasy survival MMO - this term is used by Gameranx in its September 8th news and that article is linked by the official DnL facebook and reproduced in the DnL teaser site.
"A game is fun if it is learnable but not trivial" -- Togelius & Schmidhuber
Hmm doesn't sound too great. He was pretty vague on many subjects. Sounds like the game is a long way out. I can get on board with full loot in some game like Darkfall but survival full loot sounds like a hassle.
Also sounds like boring survival game loot. I like no quests or story part. Overall it sounds like this game is gonna be bare bones though.
Honestly, this sounds like a mess. I wish them well, but it seems like a wonder around game. I know there's PvE servers but then what? At least you don't have to worry about being ambushed and killed by someone. However, I fail to see the motivation to team with anybody at this point. They said it would be difficult to solo at some point, but I basically stopped playing a recent game because It just got boring with endless, pointless exploration. No actual community at all. So I don't know. It feels a little like one of those games trying to deliver too much, but I can always criticize things based off of talk. I'm like another poster on the forum. Time will tell and actual gameplay footage would help immensely.
I think the survival elements are interesting. I like the idea of hunger, fatigue, etc, affecting one's character. I'd be more stoked if there was more game play to see.
Yes.
I would like to see a survival mmorpg using settings such as:
Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what
it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience
because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in
the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
I hope they show some good gameplay footage soon. I'm not on this "I'll wait until I can put shit on my mouth to say if it is shit" bandwagon brain dead line of thought. You want to sell your product so sell it. Show me. I won't give you money (or time) before seeing if it is worth it.
I mean, look what happened between the concept phase, testing and release with many titles out there like Tree of Savior.
You nailed it!

Sounds like an interesting combination of survival and MMORPG. The economy working without a central mark will especially be fun to see evolve. The key IMO will be for the survival aspects to be meaningful but not tedious. This may be hard to pull off but I hope they do as there isn't a high quality fantasy survival sandbox that I know of.
Hmm... all of his answers are pretty spot on to what I would have loved to hear a few years ago (it's been about eight since an MMO has held my interest). Seems like he knows his audience and is trying something a bit different from the norm. Far too soon to really know, but I am definitely gonna keep an eye out on this.

I have a feeling this is exactly why Recore didn't just link the .gif in the first place.

Sounds good....in theory. Worth keeping an eye on at least.

Agreed. Every word of that sounds unappealing.

Usually due to lack of FoV customization. But it was showing some third-person combat, so it might have both.

A marriage between survival, rpg and mmo sounds like a good match to me. IMHO it's a little too early for the negativity.
Hopefully the world is huge and intriguing.
