imageBlind Player Has Been Challenging Preconceptions Since 2012

A group of World of Warcraft players on a European server have been challenging preconceptions by making sure that all can participate in raids and other activities, including their blinded war veteran Ben 'Hexu' Shaw. Hexu has an ally in his fight to change the notion that there are some things that are 'off limits' to the blind, including participation in MMO raiding. 'Davidian' serves as Hexu's "guide dog" in raids by calling out directions and generally assisting Hexu in any way possible.

I'd rather play with a less skilled polite player than an elite jerk.

This is a great thing, and a great friend; but I do know the drive for independence is strong in most people.

Gaming in general can offer that to a great many people with handicaps, hopefully one day it will go even further..

Doesn't mean he can't keep up with the 'elite' its not like what he said has some deeper meaning either, just that no matter how good a player someone is, if they are a jerk, then he would rather play with a less skilled player who wasn't a jerk, being polite gets you much further in the world, never mind games, than being a jerk does, and people tend to respect you more.
Playing games is about having fun after all, and having fun when playing with others is often based on their behaviour, its not rocket science. :o

Respect to Ben. A few years ago my dominant eye was badly afflicted by CNVM. Currently I have only 6/36 vision on the affected eye. While I am not exactly visual disabled I do find situations where I find myself visually challenged (like driving at night on poorly lighted roads).

I am only marvel at the determination, courage and self-confidence he possesses to be able to achieve the performance as he did.

This is really awesome.  Blindness has touched my life on a personal level (I am not blind, but a friend diagnosed with macular degeneration recently committed suicide).

It's great to read about people taking advocacy to this level.  We need it.
