Is EVE outdated? Doesn't even work with a controller

EVE, an MMO I do really love. Except, as I keep playing (first time I lasted a month, second for 3 months, third for 9 months, fourth for a couple years and now I've been subbed (5th time) for 2 years and 6 months.

Except, I have early on-set of carpal tunnel from too much use of a keyboard/mouse. I NEED a controller to play games, as its vastly more comfortable. My hands hurt when using a keyboard and mouse, and like now I am typing, I can feel slight pain in my hands.

Except, EVE...its ALL mouse driven. Not once is even a keyboard is used (maybe shortcuts, but thats very minor, and talking to people, but I vastly prefer voice chat). I plug my controller in, and its far too annoying and tedious than a mouse (even though I much prefer a controller). It took days to get it to even work, and it was pretty buggy and VERY slow to do things.

Now I know its not released yet, but Star Citizen and even Elite Dangerous both are controller compatible. I can do everything in-game in both of those with a controller as easily as a console game.

Is there a reason EVE hasn't adapted controller support like every other modern space game? As it is, everything is right and left clicking with the mouse, which hurts my hands a lot. I am still going to keep trying to get a controller to work better. And I've tried both xbox360 controllers (which I like best), and PS4 controllers (but don't like them as much). But if I can't get it to work smoothly, then I feel like I just can't keep playing EVE.

I pressed enter a tad bit too soon. But, I do really love EVE. But if it can't properly work with a controller, sadly I just won't be able to play. Using a keyboard/mouse hurts too much. Typing IS okay, but there is slight pain when I type too, but not really too bad. Its mostly when I use the mouse.

I guess no one thinks about it because the mouse/keyboard interface works too well already, in pvp at least. I can't imagine that you will be able to respond quicker using a controller than a mouse and keyboard. Just think about warping to gates/chasing enemies, watching the enemy to see if he warped to a planet or a belt and then responding quickly, a mouse does this exceedingly well. I can imagine how a controller might be more fun if you are playing exclusively in cockpit mode but that severely limits your situational awareness and your ability to respond to changing situations. I can see it now:

FC: "Calfis, he just warped to Planet 3 asteriod belt 19, get over there and bubble his ass!"
Me: "Hold on I am trying to cycle to Planet 3 belt 19 on my controller, SHIT"

EVE is very different to other space games.

It always felt like a glorified Excel spreadsheet simulator. And I don't mean that in a bad way - it's what makes it great.

It's also the reason why gamepad is not a good fit. The game feels too "micromanagy" for it to work effectively.

ummm if your hands hurt,it is likely cramping. You need to drink lots of fluids and actually get the blood flowing because sitting in a chair is terrible for circulation. It is a silent killer, all these gamer's sitting in a chair for long hours,no exercise, poor circulation, going to be tons of long term problems in the new generation of gamer's come the next 20 years.
I might sound like some goofy Dr.Phil but i am very serious, people should take it seriously.
I myself who used to live and die by keyboard mouse ,now i also look predominantly for controller uses.

Movement in eve is about tactical positions not flying. There is no need ever for there to be controller support. It's just not practical.

It could also be arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, neuropathy...

My hands and fingers start to hurt more if I use a controller. I have no problem with a mouse or keyboard as I have learned to position them at the right height so as to not put strain on my hands and wrist.

Frankly, I think that the mouse and keyboard in a game like EVE is ideal. It is more a point and click then a true "flying" type game.

Let's party like it is 1863!

Whatever it is, @Wizardry is right about too much sitting.

If you want to keep enjoying gaming, ironically, you need to exercise regularly. I was getting bad circulation in my legs and arms till I started a regular exercise regimen (laugh if you want but I go to yoga with my wife now and it's awesome). Now no problems at all. And I make sure to get up and walk around and do something every hour or so. I've never felt better.
