Good thing they replace all the meat with loaves of bread, otherwise they might have a crisis on their hands.

Can't really blame them for it.
Other cultures do have different social and moral values that *should* be respected by outside countries.

In the process of "westernizing" a game we also want half naked little girls get dressed properly and then it's all good... so let's not mock someone else for replacing a chunk of meat for a leaf of bread.
And while the first can in fact be called "censorship", i wouldn't really think about the bread thing as such.

It's all about acceptance of different cultural views, as long as nobody gets to pull the short stick with these changes.
If they help both parties to enjoy their game even more, so be it.

I don't agree with censorship in any fashion, even when it's "westernization". If the creator put something in, I want to see it. If I don't agree with what's shown I'll play something else, but I won't tell someone else they don't have the right to see things how they were intended.

I think the argument you will hear is that if a company/creator wants to sell their quasi-kiddy porn game in the West they will either have to change the look of characters or face pushback from uptight folks or the actual Government itself. That is not "censorship" as it is commonly seen as.

Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.

I dont think Chinese in general have a moral value that says that blood should not be seen in a butcher shop.  Have you ever been in an oriental shop?  Its pretty raw compared to American shops.  This is more about their leadership trying to impose a moral value on its citizens.

Cultural sensitivity is something that most (I suspect all multi-national countries take into account; and rightly so.

And when it comes to cinema films tweaks are common - US releases tend to be "tamer" in some areas than Europe and Asia, Japan is different etc. etc.

However as the Chinese market is - I suggest - Blizzard's biggest market in terms of players (financial hard to say) it could be argued that the game would have (has) been developed for Chinese players and "censored" for western markets.

Let's be honest here.  Most people could care less about anything not currently in their visual range.  I know its sad, but it is honestly the truth.

well, they have some questionable values when they decide to make a whole festival about killing and eating thousands of stray dogs. Pixelated blood shouldn't be a problem. But then we kill and eat other animals so.... i guess we are all savages. Still, pixelated blood shouldnt be a moral issue. IMO.

"Censorship" will be one of the many factors that leads to violence and wars, mark my word. It's those who get "offended" the most on harmless things where others have to adjust so they don't get offended are the problem. Wait for the day when the more awareness grows more people won't be willing to remain the sheeple and "adjust", sacrificing their freedoms and rights so someone out there doesn't get offended.

The aggressors will become the ones defending and you'll see a world where it be very hard for people to get offended because all it takes is small fire for entire country to burn to ground.

Look at these forums and best example of what a true censorship means and how much harm it does. There were millions of registered accounts many years ago, now there are barely 200 active users around.

    Huh ?

The problem is extremism, not censorship or the risk of causing offence.

The person violently protesting against offence is no different to the person violently defending their right to cause offence.

In today's world, all it takes is one person with a grievance and a truckload a diesel and fertilizer....

I agree, this is definitely not an issue to loaf about!

Nuts, i meant... oh here comes a Tank to run me over for having a mind of my own.  xD

Seriously though, it's China, i can't take their governmental viewpoints seriously..

-the people of China i can take seriously and with enthusiasm, but jesus; their form of Government is freak'n scary how morally backwards it is, but i admit, it has gotten better over the years in comparison to the 80's and 90's.

This isn't about social and moral values.  This is about the Chinese government forcing its idea of social and moral values down its citizens' throats (which for once fits within the actual definition of censorship.  Western "localization", by comparison, is not something the government legislates for and is entirely optional and handled by the industry itself)

Unless you actually believe Chinese society, culture, and morality hates the sight of meat (Hint:  They don't).

Hell, I wish Blizzard would allow some of the "censors" to appear in the US version - I hate how Undead look. It's like every single member of the Forsaken has to have all the skin ripped off their arms and legs because REASONS. Moreover, it's AGAINST THE RULES to have armor covering it... all armor must be mangled sufficently so all bones can still be seen.

    ITS THE RULES.

But the thing is their own history is filled with blood and gore, not to mention outrageous amount of incest and pedophilia...

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

I think this is more about overly strict censorship in China than cultural norms.

EDIT: For example here is some good family entertainment in China:
