Elite Dangerous - Unknown Artifact mystery solved (or just Part 1 of a much larger puzzle ?)

The mystery of the (in)famous Unknown Artifact has been solved by a dedicated group of players, with special mention to  User Mike Juliett Kilo
who discovered that the Morse Code originating from the Artifacts is a set of data that - properly filtered - gives a set of vectors that together form the shape (see  below)

of the ship that scanned the Unknown Artifact.  So its basically a data collecting drone gathering information on ship traffic.

A lot of speculation is going on following this discovery. Many believe this to be the first part of an alien invasion .... and here the Thargoids

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Thargoids

are usually mentioned as the prime candiate. Frontier said some time ago that they plan a Thargoid Invadion DLC.

So it seems this new discovery is only part 1 of a much larger puzzle.

Canonn Interstellar Research Group Announces Breakthrough

    13 OCT 3301

"After months of research, scientists working for the Canonn Interstellar Research Group observed a change in the transmissions emanating from the so-called 'unknown artefacts', also known as 'anomalous extraterrestrial objects' (or AEOs). Now the organisation believes it has decoded at least part of these strange transmissions. Startlingly, the messages appear to contain schematic diagrams of the ships being used to study the objects.

The breakthrough came when Commander Mike Juliett Kilo was inspired to channel a pre-recorded AEO signal into an antique scanner display system he happened to be transporting. "I was prepared to see an alien face or Thargoid warship," he said. "I certainly didn't expect to see a Vulture, especially as I was flying one at the time! It sent shivers down my spine."

As the number of AEOs encountered in the Aries Dark region increases, the debate over the objects continues."

Going back and forth on this game. Im not a space fan but love the sandbox aspect and large universe to explore. Maybe Ill see how well Horizons is received first.

    @TsaboHavoc ;

I play both and recommend both.

Consider Elite to be still in Beta, consider Star Citizen to be in non-feature complete Alpha.

Elite is now filling out both missing functionality (landing on moons, avatars) and story (see above).
Star Citizen is in the process of integrating its various modules into a SC Alpha 2.0 build.

If you want COMPLETE games you should wait a bit longer.

If you are in a pioneering mood, join now with basic packages (E:D Horizons  - includes main game and first DLC  /  Star Citizen basic package  with Aurora or Mustang).
