Sure can't wait to be dodging idiots in public and on the roads playing this game.

    Also ..

Me: "Did you see that rare, nearly extinct bird over there?"

Them: "No, but I got a rare (insert fake random pokemon)!"

Me: "You win at life. Keep going strong."

    You stay sassy!

This is funny because people have been dumb enough in my area to tie up EMS because they want to get into police stations/fire departments for pokemon....One guy on the news was like "I get it but....it could be a really rare pokemon."

These 4 Graphs Show Just How Big 'Pokemon Go' Is

    Pokemon Go
is big. Like, really big. New data is emerging that reveals the game is not just catching on, it’s catching on more than dating, chatting with celebrities, and even Game of Thrones. It’s hard to get across just how huge this phenomenon is, so here are four essential graphs that will hopefully put it into perspective

It's just a digital insect hunter.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

That's what I thought at first too, but you choose what team you are on red or blue and then public places like parks are contested territory. People have to fight their Pokemons (which gain in power and level as you play them) at the parks to win over the territory for their team. It's real world contested territory! A really cool concept.

well until players start dressing in red or blue and then start throwing game signs at each other, ha ha....

I have to disagree with longevity. I can't see this maintaining anywhere near its current popularity. It will run its course in a few months and people will move onto the next app fad with only the poop socker whales left playing.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

And yet, it has absolutely zero bearing on those of us who choose not to play... unless, of course, one of these imbeciles plows their cars into us. In fact, I can't think of any positive manner this game might impact me: only negatives. What an awful product.

How the heck do you run mmorpg.com and call what is basically a single player game an MMO?

You can't even battle anyone. Only the AI of the creature that people have left at a gym. There is no player interaction at all. And even if you were to try and stretch the gym fights, it would still be a 1 vs 1 game at max.

I know the MMO market is devoid of new titles and as such, so is this future of this website but you're really stretching the term MMO here

    Check out these articles:

None of that matters when you factor in common sense. Common sense being that MMO stands for Massively Multiplayer Online. They are clearly defined words. There is really no way to mistake them unless you have some sort of comprehension problem. Just because some people decide to broaden the term to make lackluster games seem more exciting doesn't make it okay. Do you also think a hoverboard hovers?

Agreed, P:Go is more of a social game, just like those Facebook games. In fact it is thriving because of Facebook and its alikes.

It is not, however, an MMO.
    Massive Multiplayer Online

50+ players at a pokestop or gym chatting together. Where to catch, gonna attack gym together, soon trading aka mmo

My 9 year old loves it, I can actually get him to school on time now by saying, 'If you don't hurry up and get ready we wont be able to catch many Pokémon on the way to school' We pass about 7 pokestops and 2 gyms on the 20 min walk to school. Cough. I of course get to play it on the way back when I've dropped him off :P

I sympathize with you and understand how it can motivate children. Honestly this so pathetic in so many ways I feel sorry for society as a whole. The decline of western civilization is so evident and sometimes I feel alone in my convictions. On the other hand I see the light heartiness of it and can relate. Children are inspired by simple things but it is up to the parents and adults to guide them properly.

    Cheers...

I saw a news report yesterday with some angry old bag moaning that kids were running around the cemetery playing this game, and that it was disrespectful. I wanted to download the game right then and there just to piss that bitch off some more, but I resisted the urge.
I find this attitude profoundly disturbing. Where does personal self-gratification at the hands of a game trump the grief of people who have lost loved ones interred in a cemetery?

The cold hard fact is that most of the world doesn't, and never will, play video games. To insinuate that hordes of Pokemon hunters should have the right of way everywhere and anywhere they choose is simply wrong. Social responsibility over gaming, bar none.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Galaxy 27 Edge... no battery problems here. Also if you dodge correctly you can take a gym which much higher CP than you.

You seem extremely pessimistic. In what ways do you think the Western Civilization has declined? Science has gone further than it has ever done before, education is more available than it has ever been, we live longer on average, we are less racist than ever in history, etc.

It's a fad and nothing more. Like all fads, it will eventually lose its luster and either die out completely or it will taper off to a small number of people using it.

I'm sure other companies will try and get a slice of the pie and it wont belong before the market is saturated with clones and we know what happens to games when that occurs...

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

I'm surprised at the hype over this game. Hype rating is 10. But gameplay itself is more like a 2. Definitely got the kids attention but so did games like Pogs. Which was just slappin things down and flippin things over. I think the longivity will die very soon just like pogs and those other one hit wonder games.

When i see this game I'm reminded of Beyblades and Bogs (which was just Jacks and Slaps). This is just walking. I'm loving the craze. there's a ton of people that are gonig to show up to pokemon card tournaments thinking they know how to play pokemon only to be met with the smell of teen angst.

I love how everyone blames the Game. do you blame the gun that kills people too? do you blame the truck that ploud through people in Nice, France? just blame the people. if they can't handle responsibility that's on them. not pokemon go. Everything in moderation is key. so stop blaming a 50mb app for peoples actions. p.s. there's also a team yellow lol seems like no one talks about it. like its team pee or something.

Biggest MMO in the world? What? This does not match my definition of an MMO at all..

It actually is just an MMO, which stands for Massively Multipler Online.  It is all those things.  It encompasses the entire globe as the gaming world, which is the massive part.  It does have multiple people playing all at once in the same gaming environment hence the actual world.  And finally it is online.

The thing it is not is an MMORPG which is what you may be thinking.

Lots of people playing at once does not qualify, if so every popular single player game is an mmo. MMO means lots of people either playing together or the potential to play with people form a large pool.
Well it doesn't have to be a large pool to be multiplayer.  It just has to have 2 or more to be multiplayer and gym battles are 1 vs 1 which is 2 people which is multiplayer.  Which this game does.  It does meet the criteria for MMO but barely, but it still does.

Single player means it is only the player themselves no one else at all in the game.  This is not the case with this cash grab game.

Technically, yes, but only if you separate it from the traditional means of needing a "physical server". A traditional mmo uses a shared virtual space, so technically, the real world isn't a virtual space.
The game world in this game just happens to be the entire world.  But on the screens of the phones it is a virtual world with multiple people going to the same areas.  As multiple people will get the same alert in the same areas it is shared.  I see where you were trying to go and agree it is a stretch but it does meet the criteria.
