hmmm, have to give this some thought. Thse are the ones that I had the most hours in, so despite 'feeling' what is the best, hours would be the best objective measure. I guess I like both themepark and more Sandbox type games. I go through periods where one or the other strikes my fancy.

Awesome to Shadowbane
It was a great game. The one memory that sticks out is, as a new character, there was a place to farm large snakes. It was brutal, because everyone was in that one spot. It was a hoot though.
Tough call - and depends a lot on a) when you played the game if it did / does span some years and b) whether it was your first, second, third etc. Nor are they the same if you "go back to them". That said:
1. CoH 2. DaoC 3. EQ1 4. LOTR 5. Shadowbane
Or maybe 5 should be WoW - I played vanilla and rift was sort of fun as well but the OP said top 5 .....
I actually think many of the "newer games" offer a "better" experience but you get into the "are they mmos" debate; the tedious, boring grind that gives you all tha time to talk to people has been replaced by frantic, high octane action - which has rubbed off on how some raids are played I believe as well.
